DLA WAITING TIMES THREAD 65

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 21/02/2025 20:01

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

I really hope you get an award, sounds like you have plenty of evidence from professionals. Our SD is 19/11 so hopefully we’ll hear soon. My little boy is 3 and also suspected asd, he is non verbal and still in nappies too and significant development delay x

Edited

I hope you do also. Such a nerve wrecking time isnt it. Please do keep me updated on your claim as our dates are very close.

PositivityRipples · 06/03/2025 10:58

@Frankadoodle yes you will receive a message or letter stating the disabled child element has been added to your claim ( that will reflect in your account next payment you will see it added on your statement)
You will receive another letter from the DM stating backdated amount and when it will be paid ( you may be sent a question asking you why you didn't report the change sooner, that's a standard question you just state dla has only just been awarded and backdated to start of dla claim date)
Make sure after reporting the change you've wrote a journal message stating you've just reported a change and you would like the DM to backdate the disabled child element to ( input start date of dla claim) send this message under " payment" its done quicker that way 😬

Frankadoodle · 06/03/2025 10:58

Congratulations everyone that has been awarded.

@Glitzxx please let me know when you heard your decision :)

Not directly related to dla but was just wondering if anyone could help with this… my little boy is 3 and non verbal and significant development delays… he currently attends a nursery attached to a school (mainstream) and he has been on reduced timetable ever since he started, at first he was doing 1.5 hr per day but he was getting overwhelmed so it was reduced to 1 hour per day for several weeks. We then went back up to 1.5 hours for a few weeks and have, since the middle of November, been doing 2 hours per day. Sorry for the rambling post, was just wondering if there is anyone else here who has a child who has asd or suspected asd or similar issues to my son who has a child that is also on
reduced timetable or whether your child attends for their full hours? I obviously don’t want to overwhelm my son if he can’t manage it but just trying to gauge if this situation is the norm. Thank you x

I deffo will so happy for you honestly uou deserve it 🥰

PositivityRipples · 06/03/2025 11:11

@MistandFog2024 That is absolutely normal and lots of children of all ages have their timetables reduced due to lots of factors but usually for development delays, overwhelm, anxiety, disability... They can not refuse to take a child over the age of 2 in the UK as all children age 2 and over are entitled to education or play education it helps development and with the 2 year old funding they can't refuse a child or discriminate due to a disability but they have a duty of care to out provisions in place for a child who has a disability or who is suspected of having one but they have to discuss all this with the parent and it is done only with your agreement and input.. Usually as the child gets used to the setting hours are changed to reflect this.

Sorry one last question . I have made change of circumstances on universal credit claim online for my little boy receiving DLA now .

I have also added a note on the journal stating this just to clarify .

Does anyone know how long it takes for these changes to be made ? And also how long to receive the back payment of disability element from UC?

Thanks

Hi my son was awarded 3 weeks ago. It took UC 10 days to verify child, decision maker to make decision on back dated payment and for the case worker to calculate and allocate the payment. The payment was in my bank an hour after the payment was issued! Also if you get any money deducted off you for the benefit cap this will also be lifted and any money taken off you since you applied for Dla will also be back dated

Frankadoodle · 06/03/2025 11:37

@Emmz06 see this is what confused me a little bit . I have 3 children on my claim.

Two that we receive payment for because of the 2 children benefit cap.

Does that benefit cap still apply to my 3rd child now he will be receiving uc disability element

Or will we get that payment also going forward ?

Frankadoodle · 06/03/2025 11:39

@Emmz06 I mean will be get the normal element for 3 children now not 2 . Or just disability element .

I'm not expecting the normal element for all 3 . I'm just wondering

I’ve just rang. She said my claim is 23 weeks tomorrow and it still hasn’t been looked at. She also said it’s very possible that it will take longer than 25 weeks.

No if your child was born after April 2017 then they won’t give you child element for the third child. You will only receive a payment for disabled child element for the third child.
For instance I have 5 children altogether. I get paid for 3 children as they were born before April 2017. Even though I was getting paid for 3 children this was taken off me each month because of the benefit cap. Each month they deducted £348 off my monthly payment. Now that my 3 year old son is in receipt of Dla they have took the benefit cap away so I now get that £348 extra a month. The only extra money I get for my 3 year old is the disabled child element. Hope this helps 😊

@Glitzxx

Got through pretty quick .

He is was awarded this morning , I burst into tears on the phone . HRC (no mobility) due to his age , awarded till 2026 .

Then a renewal . Which is understandable due to him just turning 4 .

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted , this is going to mean the world to my little boy going forward

Il stick around to see how everyone gets on

Oh I'm so happy for you!! From a fellow 29.10 mum <3
