DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 63

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 22/01/2025 21:02

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

Does anyone here claiming DLA also claim carers allowance?

zoeybrooks45 · 03/02/2025 12:19

Just spoke to UC being difficult with process to get backpay. Apparently depending on your assessment period which give them another 3 weeks to sort mines out. Last time it was 1 week start to finish. From one headache to another xx😭

Sorry what is a backpayment of universal credit? I had to start claiming in November due to quitting work . Do I qualify for a backpayment? . My DLA claim was scanned on the 30/09 and decision made 01/02 . If so what do I need to do there? So much to take in with the benefits side I'm not used to it all!! TIA x

It the amount UC need to pay you because your child was awarded DLA. there is two components 1) disabled child (middle or high rate care) 2) careers element 3)careers allowance. I am unsure if you just started claiming UC in Nov but I would write on your journal your child has been awarded UC from X date and would like to backdated your award due DWP having delays in DLA and you have just found out. They might not backdate it pre Nov, you have to ask. Hope that helps.

@Ems20112019 @C1502 Being registered blind is not an automatic entitlement to high rate of either element of Dla.. Dla isn't awarded based on diagnosis it's awarded based on care and mobility needs so you still have to be very thorough and send supporting evidence.. Maybe what they meant when they told you that if your slightly sight impaired child was registered blind they would have been entitled to high rate they meant that based on what you had filled out on the form and the extra care needs and age of child along side diagnosis not just an automatic qualification for high rate.
So @C1502 you are doing the right thing gathering all your extra evidence and night care explanations.

It does say on the gov website that higher rate mobility is for those with walking difficulties, deaf or blind she can’t get that for another 2 years so to me it’s not an issue yet anyway. I am hoping her further diagnosis of being registered blind will take her up to hrc as I was suprised she didn’t get it to begin with but I knew I had to do a coc as I was waiting on this diagnosis so never did a mr.
I’m trying to get as much evidence as possible because I feel like I rushed the coc I’ve also managed to get a doctors app for tomorrow for her sleep🤞🏼

Yes I claim careers allowance. If you claim uc it taken off pound for pound some people don't bother claiming it because it come of uc pound for pound. But I find it useful to have some money coming in weekly.
If you are working you need to earn a certain amount but not sure how much.

PositivityRipples · 03/02/2025 14:53

@C1502 Yes you can apply for mobility for any child, that is unable to walk or fall under smi or vuw rules and legislation was changed a few years ago to include a child who is blind or deaf it just means you're entitled to apply for low or high rate and not that the child automatically qualifies for high rate motability for being registered blind.. So i just thought I'd comment as the other lady gave you incorrect information that it's an automatic entitlement which it isn't.
I'm sure you're aware if your child is registered blind and has a CVI or BD8 that that could mean a multitude of things for each child and it doesn't provide enough information to the DM as blind doesn't always mean black blind as each child's visual acuity and visual field loss varies and what they can and can't see varies significantly so the dla need to know how the vision loss effects each child and their daily living and needs and help and usually a letter from the ophthalmologist or optometrist of the child's most recent assessment would support a claim for high rate.. But Age of child matters alot also, anything you can get to support the high care needs would be great as like you say you was surprised the child didn't get HRC to start off with..
You would think they would already know that a child with vision loss needs significant care but unfortunately it seems they don't without supporting evidence and written needs specific to each child 😩 the vision loss has to hit thee marker of "can not follow the route of a familiar journey without another person, assistance dog or an orientation aid" but how do you prove that with small child that needs supervision and help with that even without the vision loss 😩 hopefully the doctor can assist you also the recent assessment from the ophthalmologist will help 🤞🏼

Thankyou that explains it a lot better🙂
She has the social and developmental age of a 3-6 month old baby (I have this in a letter too from portage and health visitor) she’s 16 months, she can only just sit up and that’s with support, she can’t crawl or anything yet. She’s also tube fed and has addisons disease so is life dependent on steroids, plus being diagnosed blind and also she doesn’t sleep 🤣I’m hoping that she will get someone nice enough to look at the case xx

1st time calling got told abruptly its in a holding que after waiting 65 mins. What does this mean?

The advisor says it would take 25 weeks.

I will not be calling again, I had to beg them to take reference and even look into my case!!!

PositivityRipples · 03/02/2025 15:25

@C1502 Sounds like she definitely hits the marker for significant care and substantial night care it's proving it's above the care of a child the same age that is hard isn't it.. It makes the claim process really easy for older children but very difficult for little ones .. Just make sure you highlight the night care on her absolute worst night and there's no reason she wouldn't qualify for HRC.. And then when she is 3 you can put in for mobility.. 🤞🏼

PositivityRipples · 03/02/2025 15:28

Why do the call handlers always act like you've just interrupted their church service on a Sunday 😩🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 like just do your job please

Honeybee45 · 03/02/2025 15:40

I tried calling back on option 4 but gave up waiting after 45 mins. I’ll just try and be patient until the letter comes

DD has since been prescribed melatonin.

Sometimes she takes it sometimes she refuses. Sometimes it works and others it doesn't.

Should I explain that in a covering letter to go with her prescription evidence? I don't want them to think oh well she's on melatonin so she must sleep soundly now and have no sleep issues as that's not true (unfortunately!)

I called this morning and was waiting 65 minutes!

The advisor was reluctant to even take my reference number and look into my account.

Then said my application is in a holding queue - Can anyone tell me what this means please? Are they waiting for more evidence?
