DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 63

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 22/01/2025 21:02

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

Does anyone know if DLA can be awarded for communication difficulties? My son has a stammer and it takes him a long time to get out what he wants to say, which happens all day, everyday. He has regular speech and language therapy sessions and a pupil passport in place at school with adjustments that need to be made to support him. I just wondered if anyone has any experience/knowledge of DLA being awarded for communication difficulties only. Thanks in advance 😊

Can I just ask everyone what do you have in the way of evidence? My dd is 5 and is not under a paediatrician. She's going to be assessed this year, hopefully (though not by the umbrella team because it will take 3 years but our chosen provider uses NICE guidelines).

School can vouch for her needs and have seen how difficult it is to get her to eat and drink, transition, emotional upsets etc but academically she's very able. I'm sure that won't help from DLA perspective but had to go through tribunal with one of my other disabled children. So if it does end up with an appeal, I guess we might have a diagnosis report by then. It's amazing how spikey these kids are with profiles. If I didn't follow her around with a plate, feeding her individual tiny squares of toast, she wouldn't eat a thing.

Dd3, who is now 15 did not get her written report from the umbrella team until she was 9 and I had to push hard. They kept dragging their feet and saying that because she'd already been diagnosed with ADHD at 6, they weren't able to see what was ASD Hmm her report was adequate but not very detailed and they ended up agreeing she fitted ASD. And even though I used the report with the first application for DLA it was turned down and MR was turned down. So reports don't even necessarily help.

What I'm trying to say is, these days it usually takes quite a long time to get much in the way of professional reports. I feel that government agencies don't believe what parents say generally.

you can provide professional reports or statments if you think it benefit decision. For my 3 year old I provided

  • ASD acceptance letter (later diagnosis report from paediatrician)
  • ECHP this will include educational psychologist report, speech &langauge report and occupational therapy report.
  • an OT assessment and plan
  • a HV report
  • an allergy plan

if you child is waiting assessment you might have a letter stating that you have been accepted and are now waiting. If your school are supportive you can also ask them to write a supporting statement of your child’s struggles. If your child has any IEP or is on the SEN register. Alternatively you do not need to provide anything additionally to what you have written some have been awarded with 0 evidence. I personally think it depends on how you articulate you are in filling in the form and the way you detail your child’s needs.

My sd was 17/9 and I can see back pay pending in my account for tomorrow. I'm not sure what my son has been awarded yet so will wait for the letter to arrive but I was just wondering if someone could explain what I do now with UC please? Do I have to wait until I have confirmation of the award level before I get in touch with them? It's such a minefield and I'm so confused with it all 🙈

If you don't know the date it was awarded from then yeah need to wait for the letter or you could call them tomorrow (option 4) and ask

PositivityRipples · 29/01/2025 22:25

@B2345 If it is classed as a speech impairment and the child has significant speech difficulties that impacts their daily life enough to require additional care or support compared to other children the same age, and depending on severity the child ( could) qualify for dla, you would need to provide evidence of how the child's speech effect their ability to communicate, interact with others and perform daily tasks and activities, they would also require a speech therapists report as detailed evidence and also for you to demonstrate that it significantly impacts daily life. It would also depend on child's age. You could always try.

N/c scan date 5/11
I know I've a long wait ahead, does anyone have any ideas on roughly where they are at with new claims dates wise? I'm not on Facebook so not sure if there's a rough date they seem to be working near? Thanks so much

Hi my nc sd is 1/11 so I'm a close sd date to you. They seem to be mid way through September from what I've read on here.
So I was bored one night and counted the weeks and made a note in my calendar 15 weeks from my sd would have been 14/2... obviously that's not happening! 20 weeks will be 21/3 and 25 weeks will be 25/4 hopefully it won't be that long though 🤞 So you should be around the same dates as those, I don't think claims go exactly in order of sd, so you could be before me but we should be similar sort of dates. Hope that helps 😊

Weve recieved back pay for LRC. So pleased she's been recognised, we were thinking she'd have recived MRC, as needs support thoughout the day. Knew she wouldn't get mobility as she's only 4, can walk but slowly and falls frequently the needs help to get up due to spinal brace

Jmam · 30/01/2025 07:28

Hi all my son was awarded last week his scan date was 4/9 for a new claim. I informed universal credit straight away and done a change of circumstances for my son. Does anyone happen to know how long UC takes to add his disabled element on?

Goodluck everyone on your claims

You can do a MR if you believe the rate isn't right! What was your scan date? X

We are considering it, want to speak to her clinical nurse later and see if she can give us a further letter, I have nothing to send that I haven't already sent. Scan date 17th/9

MistandFog2024 · 30/01/2025 09:17

@Lyannaa i think we are in a similar position. My son is 3 and non verbal and development delays, doesn’t interact with other children at nursery, reduced timetable etc. we are yet to see the paediatrician, although I have spoken to her the phone and she said we should see her in March but as yet no appointment has come through. All I have in the way of evidence is the report the dr sent following our phone appointment, some referral letters for speech and language therapy, his individual education plan from nursery and a report from local sen inclusion team with strategies to support my son in nursery (not that these seem to be working at present but that’s another story!). Ours is a NC scan date 19/11. Best of luck with your claim x

I'd defo consider it! It's a long process but worth it if it's overturned x

We was awarded LRC for my DD who is now 4, in December contacted Citizen advise to help fill out a MR only extra information I sent with MR was a Drs patient summery but the advisor who helped with form said didn’t need anything extra as a different DM would look at the decision and have access to old documents that were sent in. We are awaiting a follow up paediatrician appointment and outcome for echp will send them once received will have plenty of time to send more information as I don’t think will be looked at till May/June

I had similar information to what you sent and was awarded LRC x

s39 · 30/01/2025 09:59

As you’ve already been awarded LRC your not losing anything by putting in an MR in you will still be getting LRC payments and DLA element if your claiming UC until the decision is looked at again x
Good luck x

My daughter is 2 completely non verbal , I sent in paediatric assessment referral letter , speech and language referal , she had global development delay of 0-6 months , my s/d is 10/10

OfDragonsDeep · 30/01/2025 11:26

Scan Date 23rd Sept. Awarded MC and LM, no text, but saw the payment pending this morning so called and he’s been awarded until 2031!

Am so relieved, I knew that there was something ‘different’ since he was a toddler. We got his ASD diagnosis just before he turned 5 and the paediatrician advised we apply. I sent his diagnosis letter, support plan from school (he’d only been there for 3 weeks at this point) and letters from nursery/health visitor showing their concerns.

Hiya, my scan dates 21/10 (15 weeks on Monday) and from following the thread a few days… I’d say we still have anywhere between 3-10 weeks 🙃 I’ve seen the odd scan date for the begging of Oct been awarded on here and fb, but the majority is end of September so another 3-4 weeks minimum but I’ve seen a few claims taking as long as 23 weeks after the scan date…. Fingers crossed we both here some news over the next few weeks xx
