DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 63

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 22/01/2025 21:02

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

Hiya, my scan dates 21/10 (15 weeks on Monday) and from following the thread a few days… I’d say we still have anywhere between 3-10 weeks 🙃 I’ve seen the odd scan date for the begging of Oct been awarded on here and fb, but the majority is end of September so another 3-4 weeks minimum but I’ve seen a few claims taking as long as 23 weeks after the scan date…. Fingers crossed we both here some news over the next few weeks xx

I hope so too the wait is horrendous worries it will be a decline tbh x

it really is a long dreading wait, now it’s getting closer I worry if I filled the forms out correctly, gathered enough evidence ect, I’m going to try holding off phoning until middle of Feb, but hopefully they get through October quickly and cute down on the dreaded wait x

My son has ASD and ADHD and I've been getting MRC and LRM since 2019 which I've had to renew every 2 years.

He's now 12 years old, 13 in August and his care needs are the same as before so no changes.

Renewal was received 31/12/24

Does anyone know if they still only renew it for 2 years even at the age of 12? I see some people are awarded for over 2 years so was just wondering.

It's a pain having to go through renewal every 2 years

Cozy2025 · 30/01/2025 12:34

I will update when I do , best of luck to you too

When I renewed for my sons 13th birthday it was until his 16th which isn't much longer but then its the change over to PIP

What was your scan date? There is an option to put this down when filling the gov form. Did any part of award change? X

@mumofoneAlonebutokay did they give their reason why child didn't meet smi?
In the reasons they tell you what they thought you didn't meet of the 5 point test x

The award didn't change, it's higher care rate, lower mobility

Im not sure of the scan date, can't see it on the letter they sent x

I think it was received by them on the 18th August though x

Here's the photo x

I've crossed out dd's name and one thing that was quite identifying

She's 5.5 with autism and suspected adhd

She really does meet the smi rules imo, just because she has a sweet disposition doesn't mean she doesn't need support 🙄 x

Anyone know how long coc are taking? Been almost 17 weeks so far

KCJ1984 · 30/01/2025 16:24

Hi,

Completely new to this and have been reading up on some posts and you all seem very encouraging for each other and helpful, so nice to see.
I've applied for DLA for one of my children because of suspected ADHD but waiting for referral that the school has put in. He's having ELSA classes and the SENco teacher is monitoring him often due to outbursts and other various concerns. I was able to send some school reports and a doctors one where they tried to refer (got declined as had to go through school). So in terms of evidence I didn't have much just told them about my concerns and the difficulties in which he/we face. Do they only award those that have been diagnosed?

Kirstygingee · 30/01/2025 16:53

No the awards go on a care needs basis you don't need a diagnosis for DLA x

PositivityRipples · 30/01/2025 17:06

@mumofoneAlonebutokay Hello, I've just read your response to your MR, Are the points the DM has noted correct? Or do you feel they have misinterpreted your information and evidence?
Does the child show extreme disruptive behaviour in school and needs to be physically restrained? And at home?
Is the child okay with different settings and plays along nicely? Or have you given evidence that suggests otherwise?

PositivityRipples · 30/01/2025 17:13

@KCJ1984 Hello, no you don't need a formal diagnosis to claim Dla but you do need evidence of the extra care needs and support that the child receives due to symptoms of a suspected condition, and so things like the school recognising the need and giving extra support, symptoms and behaviour displayed at school ( but not always if the child masks you would state this) and evidence that a disability is being investigated ie referral on to a pathway or neuro or waiting assessment so seems you've sent what you have but I just wanted to ask you say you've sent a decline for assessment letter that the GP sent through ( personally I wouldn't have sent a decline letter) have you over ruled that with evidence that the school have referred the child and you are waiting for a response or assessment?

KCJ1984 · 30/01/2025 17:20

@PositivityRipples Thanks for your reply. Sorry the GP info I sent through was a letter of them referring him for an assessment, so lots of notes on it. The decline part was just that they said the referral had to go through school (didn't actually send that bit). School then referred and so also sent that on. I think I confused that :-/

PositivityRipples · 30/01/2025 17:23

@KCJ1984 Ahh I understand now so that makes sense and I'm sure you've explained that in the form notes, thats all you can really send if that's all you have, you've gave evidence of referral and evidence of senco involvement so then they will be able to award based on the self assessment of the child's care needs and support you've filled out on the form, good luck.. Fingers crossed

KCJ1984 · 30/01/2025 17:29

@PositivityRipples Thank you. Think I'm only on week 11 so a long way to go judging by these threads

Hi x

She needs support to choose. She needs support to wait her turn, she can't do it alone

All of the things mentioned have been misinterpreted 🥺

She is such a sweet girl and loves cuddles but not with strangers. She does need restraint throughout the day and can't follow a typical route unless supervised and guided.

she cannot play with her peers, only alongside them, as though they arent there, she becomes overwhelmed when expected to socialise in any way

They've misinterpreted a lot of it. I did say she's sweet as she's my dd, it hurts very much to describe her as smi

Flop2023 · 30/01/2025 17:30

Hi, our scan date is some time towards the end of October, it is for a new claim for our 4 year old definitely autistic but not formally diagnosed boy. We have had his first OT report back this week. It has highlighted hypermobility for the first time and that he needs support with fine motor skills - however says his current skill level is in line with his age. It also refers to putting his clothes on as being in line with his age and includes targets to further support both. It does raise his attention, delayed toilet training and ability to follow multi-step instructions as a challenge but said his fascination with letters and numbers should aid him in reception.

Should I submit this as extra evidence? As we did not have OT input when we submitted the form. We also have a more recent report from speech and language (also showing some positive steps towards some targets).

For the record he is severely speech delayed, has sleep struggles, meltdowns, still in nappies etc. We sent a lot of evidence from nursery.

I don't want these recent, partially positive reports (a joy to receive though they are) to be the reason we are declined.
