DLA WAIT TIME THREAD 62

1000 replies

zoeybrooks45 · 11/01/2025 22:06

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.
New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?
Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.
Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.
If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)
Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.
If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.
DLA contact number is 121 4600 0800 121 4600

You are any day now!!! The person said that the DM rang her yesterday and awarded over the phone

The closer it gets the more sick I feel, just want it over now either way

@Kc1999x yes I agree it is worth claiming in my opinion if you don't work as its paid weekly and then uc take it off you monthly but also pay the carer element ect.
Some people don't qualify though because of how many hours they work and the amount of wages they get. But if you don't work most defo it's worth claiming in my opinion.

Edited

Yes exactly that!

The somersaults in the stomach, sweating, jumping every time your phone rings😅 this process is not for the weak at all!

Definitely not 🤣🤢 and the thought of going to a tribunal is just soul destroying, I don't know how they do it, but I will have to go down that route if it's rejected again. I just hope they've not tried to contact the school without letting me know, i if they have they are in for a long unproductive wait 😫🤣

@HM1111 No carers allowance is a seperate benefit that UC take off you each month pound for pound so most people don't apply for it.
Universal credit have an option where you can go to report a change and you can report caring for someone who claims a qualifying benefit so a family member friend or child that gets DLA or PIP or the severe disability premium of pension credit.
So you report the change that you are caring for your child, you put the date of the DLA claim and they backdate it to the date the child started to receive DLA ( this also cancels all work commitments if you have any) and UC pay you the carer element of UC.
Hope that helps and makes sense.

You're amazing so helpful! Thank you!!

Going to get my ducks in a row!

I claim carers allowance and it’s helped me out having that money every week even though it is taken off of my uc. So if anyone is thinking about claiming the carers allowance in my opinion it’s worth it! Obviously it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but a positive view on it🫶🏽

I also claim carers allowance i claimed it before I claimed uc.
I agree it's helpful to have money coming in weekly.

This is my date, I'm the same it's all I think about all day! Think have i sent enough evidence? Should I call but resisting the urge

I think it's hard to tell as they seem to process all different dates I've seen majority atm as early sept SD e.g 4/9 20 week wait exactly

So we're looking at 4th Feb week i think 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Invinsibubblality · 19/01/2025 16:09

Carers allowance is deducted from UC, but you can take the option to be paid weekly, and it also gives you class 1 NI credits, so it does have some benefits and you won't be any worse off

Can anyone help me to understand what type of rate if any I am likely to receive for my daughter.
I finally had a paediatrician diagnose her with Autisim, ADHD, Emotional dysregulation & Sensory processing difficulties.
she is also now medicated with Medikinet XL 30 mg daily.
I am unsure of any of this and it’s all new to me so any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA x

Justawaitingmum · 19/01/2025 17:17

Hi all,
I can see some September dates being awarded.
I am very nervous as I called DLA last Thursday and I spoke to a lovely lady who said that my child EHC was not received and if I wanted to re send I needed to do next day delivery so they can scan as soon as possible.
My SD is 16/09.
all sent , I feel like the waiting times are reducing and we might hear from them before we can imagine hopefully 🤞

PositivityRipples · 19/01/2025 17:48

@Stacey220786 DLA is based off the child's care needs it isn't awarded based off diagnosis or specific rates based on specific disabilities or illness, it is all based on what you put on the form which is a self assessment of the child's needs, evidence of diagnosis and reports to back up what you are saying is great as evidence, you just need to fill the form out on all care given to the child that is above the need of a child of the same age without a disability or illness, as a basic rule of thumb but not set in stone.
A child with some care needs in the daytime would be awarded low rate care.
A child with moderate care needs in the day or night would be awarded middle rate care.
A child with substantial care needs in the day and night would be awarded high rate care.
The motability side of things are a little more complicated to explain but as a basic rule but not set in stone.
A child who can not walk more than 10 metres or refuses to walk because of a severe mental inpairment ( asd is classed as one) or a child that present severe danger to themselves and others and needs to be restrained in all settings home, school and outside the home to prevent harm to themselves andd others would be awarded high rate motability ( it's a little more complicated than that)
A child that needs some help getting around, some help with prompting to walk, can walk over 50 metres but gets tired, in pain or needs to stop would be low rate motability ( it's a little bit more complicated than that)
All off these examples depend on age, severity of disability or illness and whether evidence of such has been sent in also.
If I carry on this comment will be to long, hope that help a little bit.
Best thing to do is fill in the form as thorough as you can and send the evidence you've stated.
Good luck 🤞🏼🍀

Thank you so much 🥰
school state she requires intervention daily and when she’s at home you just can’t take your eyes off her for a second!
she has no sense of danger or social awareness whilst in public so I avoid public places! I hope she is awarded with something because she goes through clothes like you wouldn’t believe as well!! Xx

My son has to be watched at all times whenever he is awake! And he barely sleeps. Our day starts around 1/2am🤦🏽‍♀️ no danger awareness and he can’t be in busy places! He’s non verbal and severely autistic. He receives HRC&HRM although he got his mobility after MR. Depends what evidence you have to back up what you say all in all. But just for reference🫶🏽 he’s 4 btw! Good luck and hope your child gets what they deserve! X

What I found helpful was preparing for tribunal. I prepared myself for the worst outcome so if it didn’t go the way I wanted I already prepared my mind for it😅

Yeah I get that hun I’ve been before for my older daughter and won but it’s the time scale that’s the annoying thing it’s just so frustrating as she has her diagnosis of asd a 30 page report and you still have to fight tooth and nail for what she needs

overly long! I hope it’s not the case for you though. I’m seeing a lot of peoples decisions being overturned at MR stage🤞🏽🤞🏽

Quietly reading here I hope everyone one off you gets some good news this week ❤️❤️ my scan date is 09/10 daughter with rutal ocd challenging behaviour on path away for autism and adhd under camhs and cbt therapy and has high tariff SEMH behaviours waiting echp to come thought and also losing the world to live with waiting 🤣🤣🤣🤣 my poor heart and head xxx

Stacey220786 · 19/01/2025 18:32

I’ve been battling for years with it all! She is now 12 and in a mainstream highschool.
throughout all her primary years I was just brushed off by everyone because she masks a lot in school!
I wish I had known years ago about DLA I just assumed you needed a formal diagnosis before being eligible for an award! 🤦‍♀️
I still have to dress her every morning & socially she struggles with communication & social skills in general.
now she has been diagnosed I have pushed for her to be placed on the senco list and demanded the school provide her with a care plan!
she’s really struggling with school & her grades show this!
I also believe she is dyslexic but again another battle to get her tested for that! Xx
