Well his teacher has said that she’s given information from worst case scenario, but I have no clue what has been asked😂 hopefully tomorrow is the day for a decision😭🙏

Isn’t it something when we need a worst case scenario to show strangers what we are saying. This is what I asked senco too could they give worst case scenario. I’ve managed to get some info off his online school account go me 😂 shows they have zero record of his progress the whole time he’s been there which ties up with me saying he’s had no formal assessment before he was in year 3

Sorry the teachers sound useless at this point. And it’s the child that suffers. Nothing worse as a parent trying to fight a battle and they aren’t on board🤦🏽‍♀️

Literally I have no choice tomorrow I’ve got my last minute run around to do all day my children are at after school club I am not wondering around with my phone In my hand along with tons of bags 🤣🤣 x

SKB12 · 17/12/2024 17:40

@PositivityRipples can I get your take on if DM needs to contact my sons school. What is their purpose for ringing the school in the first instance? Lack of paper evidence? Our senco point blank said she wouldn’t be the one to take a call from a DM, it would be down to my son’s teacher. I’ve found them unhelpful especially this year which I don’t know if that is down to them being busy or my sons attendance which currently stands at 19% with that in mind would a DM call them. I am concerned that they will simply say they don’t see him often enough although they have spoken to me several times about his lack of engagement/language and any behaviour incidents via phone call. Thanks

I know this wasn’t directed at me, however going forward I would have all contact with them strictly email/messages so there’s a paper trail x

PositivityRipples · 17/12/2024 17:41

SKB12 · 17/12/2024 16:47

She’s lovely and happens to be the attendance officer. I was impressed that she could read my son when to approach and when to leave him be. I don’t think she’s got the authority to speak to anyone or write a letter or I would’ve asked. I’ve still asked senco to ask teacher for a letter but I know how they’ve been in actually doing what they agree to

Go on your local councils website and ask for a subject access request, they will email you stating you need to request from headteacher of school but they cc the headteacher into the email and follow the request until it's actioned, You will need to attached your child's birth certificate and depending on age ( 13 and above) consent from child for them to give you all info held on your child from council and school

Update on mine which I’ve wrote about on this thread. Renewal. Due to run out 28/12/2024. Scan date 20/11/2024. My daughter who’s 4 years old with ASD has been awarded HRC & HRM until 2032. (Previously received just HRC no mobility) Wasn’t expecting the mobility (she meets criteria but it seems hard to get) so very happy for her. Fingers crossed for you all. Keep going. Xx

They usually contact school if the child doesn't meet all describors from the evidence already sent in or they are looking at awarding high rate and they need to ask school questions as high rate in nearly all instances goes on how the child presents in all settings, if you've already sent in a detailed letter from school or school have wrote in the who knows the child section they usually don't need to contact the school, I guess it varies on evidence and the self assessment of the child you've already filled in ( question tick boxes and expanded written notes for each question) it's really hard to say if they will or won't contact the school it all depends what they are stuck on. And even if they do contact school they are aware children mask at school so they only really take solid evidence on physical need and not mental need.. So if the child needs help going toilet, if the child needs help getting around school, if the child needs help with eating, if the child needs physical restraint in school these are all what would be classed as a physical need.. A mental need isn't always taken on what the school say ie behaviour, a child could sit on a chair for an hour at school but at home be bouncing off the walls, so it's great if you say the child lashes out or can't sit still and school back that but even if school don't back that it wouldn't affect your answers if that makes any sense. If claiming under smi for high mobility though they will ask the school if it's not already in evidence if school have to physically restrain the child.
I know it's to late now but it would have been better if you didn't tell the school that dla may call or write to them, if they called and said can I speak to so and so ( whatever name you've given) the DM would have put them on the spot andd just said I've got 3 questions to ask you I need a yes or no response ect usually the teacher will just answer but now you've told them they have a chance to now say to the other teachers if the dwp call I'm not speaking with them or I can't the teachers are fuckers they expect parents to jump they call a a parent ever 5 seconds if they have a problem they suspend sen kids reduce timetables meaning parents find it difficult to work or have to cut their hours to care for the child and can usually only work part time or get called out of work every time there's a problem and it effect parents ability to work but they won't tell the dwp how disruptive the child or how bad the care needs are or write or give detailed info to back a claim. Nobs 😭🤣 sorry

Oh no, I only mentioned it to them last week then called them today. I’m not finding them particularly supportive. Ours is a MR. I could argue that he isn’t in regularly at all so a lot of his difficulties are more evident at home. They have no positive updates for when he is there so that’s something. I do believe he tries to mask but they’ve witnessed him assaulting a TA for example leading to a suspension. We’ve tried it all with him, mornings, afternoons, morning with 30 minutes of an afternoon and so on. I do think due to lack of support it’s time to explore options of a different setting even if that doesn’t happen right away, might give them a kick up the you know what too 😂 thank you for your input. I think we are in for a long fight, hope I’m wrong though!

I said to hubby next time they call me expecting some help I’m going to say yes I’ll do it and won’t! It might give them an idea as to how parents feel. The most recent request was if I could provide a first fact bc photo of my son for legal reasons to go on his school records as he wouldn’t have his picture taken. I scoured through many photos just to give them that 😂

No they aren’t. I was surprised when the SENDCo said to me we have autistic and children with adhd who have 100% attendance. And?
