so she asked if there’s any teacher that they should speak to in particular or just the senco. I said the senco is actually my sons teacher so speak to her or if she isn’t available ask for his 1:1 and gave her name. I just don’t want them to focus on all the positives of my child because he is a loving boy if you get what I mean

Kids with difficulties can have positives and still struggle bad like my 13 year old is loving towards my 3 and 4 year olds but hates everyone else!

SKB12 · 17/12/2024 14:41

I’m going to call my son’s school tomorrow and be very clear they may be getting a call from DLA and I want them to give a detailed accurate description of how he is. All very well they tell me but it’s not me who DM will ask. I’m also going to tell them I am not happy how they have ignored each request I’ve made when they expect our support with my son, should work both ways. I’ll be bringing it up at his review in July too.

I’m so sorry. How awful, what did they say? Were you a new claim? MR?

So Sorry to hear that. How do you feel about doing a MR?

SKB12 · 17/12/2024 15:20

@Kc1999x rang my sons schooo. Senco answered, I told her about the MR which I’ve already mentioned on an email last week. She said she wouldn’t be able to help and said his teacher would be the person to ask! I said the letter I got was brief to say the least and not supportive. How can she say she can’t help? She’s been there since January, can’t even send over an intervention plan that she suggested doing and now can’t talk to a DM! I’m fuming. Ive already mentioned how his class teacher is, she acts like it’s all a choice from conversations she’s had with me even though she’s fully aware of his needs. I was told by senco son did nothing there yesterday work wise. That’s the sort of thing I want them discussing with DM. If they get a call and decision comes down to that I know it’ll be a decline. I’m not going to correspond or support them in any way after that if that’s the case and will state that’s the reason why. The deputy head is also my son’s teacher but his letter wasn’t worth the paper it was written on. I’m going to complain to SENDAR about them.

Awful news! Take some time! Ask for the statement of reasons and then do an MR! You have got this. Your child deserves this. If you don’t fight for your child no one will! I know it’s a hard process but they want you to give up

@ProudZebra i echo this. I’ve had a feeling with a few of the declines they are wanting claimants to take it to MR and tribunal before they award. I know it’s gutful and a blow for you and your child but it’s not over yet.

I don’t even know what to say that’s absolutely ridiculous. What are they playing at🤦🏽‍♀️ if anything make a SAR request I think it’s called. They have to release all information they hold on your child. So all this about intervention plans should be in there and what not.
im in disbelief wtf

I’m gobsmacked. She cut me off and said no I can’t do that when I said the DM would likely call to speak to them then said his deputy head (also class teacher) or the teacher who has known him since year 7 when I said deputy hasn’t known him as long. She knew him well enough to hold a teams meeting about him but can’t say the same to a DM that’s bs. All I hear is he’s not there, he was there yesterday and like I said to her the teacher from year 7 has seen enough of him. Right I’ll make that request. I’ve got his attendance, behaviour, risk assessment which I requested and have already sent. They really will screw it up for my son.

School drive me nuts. I spoke to the sen at my daughter school who hasn’t really attended in 3 years, he said well If you would like supportive evidence just put my name and they can write to me phone me when it comes to making the decision.
chams where a nightmare to get evidence from even tho they assessed her and brought in someone to help the assessment.
I feel like sometimes they just don’t want to help you.
I said why can’t you just fill in the bit about someone that knows my child, he said sorry we don’t do that in this school, not enough time for all that if we did that with every child parents etc that thought they were entitled to dla. Complete joke, but then they want to to
work with them at thier back and call. My next meeting is the 10th of Jan and it’s my 40th birthday they wouldn’t rearrange saying it when Chams is available for a meeting and it’s important you attended it’s about your child, basically saying I should put that first over a bottomless brunch I have booked with my friends for my birthday which is a big one 40 lol. X

The thing is it costs them thousands to go to tribunal. They waste so much money.
My husband’s PIP claim, he received no award, went to tribunal and he got high rate of both. I’d understand if MR’s or tribunals just moved a few points but they’re so far off some of them that they really need to do better originally. Not to mention the stress it causes people who really don’t need/can’t manage it. It’s such a long and difficult process I’m surprised people can be bothered to fraudulently try it!
sorry off on a tangent slightly there!

NC, just said he doesn’t need any more care than any other child his age! Crazy considering he has a rare bone disease, already had one operation and needs another to put metal in his legs because his bones aren’t strong enough and could snap really easy if he falls

Just spoke to the decision maker from DLA. They wanted my sons up to date school, gave those details, she’s going to be attempting to call them today and tomorrow. So as soon as she’s spoken to them she will have a decision

Must be on the final hurdle now? Did you find out if they spoke to the school?

I do think it’s something to do with them busy which I understand but I haven’t asked them for anything related to this and only mentioned it last week to which as per I’ve had no response from them. In future when they call for anything, I won’t help them and take my time responding see if that’s ok. Annual review meeting is next July I will be requesting a different setting for him!!

Sounds like my son’s school too! Always feels that everywhere you turn they are not willing to help! My son’s dietary intake is absolutely horrendous but because he’s not overweight or underweight the GP point blank refuses to refer him to a dietitian! He’s 5 and has broken 4 bones in the past 2 years.. how do they know he may not have a vitamin deficiency?! But if he was overweight or underweight they’d take it seriously. They’re all ridiculous.

That is shocking and wrong. Of course he requires more care than another child his age. I would consider doing a MR. If you know this award isn’t right, they are probably expecting you to do a MR. Can’t lie, it’s stressful and had a longer wait time than a new claim but if your son is awarded it will be worth it. xx

I’m done with them. We have decided we will be requesting a different setting at his annual review. I think we can all agree between him, us, school and plan co things are worse than they were in year 7 and they aren’t meeting need. My mind is made up and the search for new schools is on! I’m going to start by revisiting ones that were approached ahead of him starting year 7.

The decision maker only wanted to speak to my sons school because he’s just started this September so it may be a case they don’t request to speak to your sons school. And with any luck they don’t the way they are going on

I hope so, I’ve just messaged my son’s teacher to see if she received a call from them as she wasn’t in the classroom today when I picked him up. Waiting on a response. If i get a yes before 5 I’m calling to see if a decision is made😂
