It was very quick tbf. For his actual diagnosis appointment we walked in and the paediatrician was basically like we’ve knew from the initial appointment your child does have ASD so today he is officially diagnosed. But the way I describe my son is he’s very “textbook” autistic. So it’s very clear to see once you meet him. Isn’t no masking with my boy😂 we are currently fighting for specialist setting for him, they are few and far between for places near us🤦🏽‍♀️

What year is you son?

if you mean school he’s only just gone into reception. Currently 4 years and 11 months in age

I'm in england (Yorkshire) and we've been waiting 3 years already for my son and been told another year or two wait for his autism diagnosis.

Have you looked at right to choose. It’s a lot quicker. I’m North Yorkshire and the wait is 12-16 months through that.

Oh right my sons school take from year 5 I believe

SKB12 · 16/12/2024 09:19

We have one here that does from primary not sure what year SENDAR asked for him year 5 but they said his needs were too complex with the pupils already on roll

Kc1999x · 16/12/2024 09:25

my son has complex needs. I have no doubts we’ll win tribunal for his school placement. I’m happy where he is for now. His 1:1 is amazing with him. If she could go through school with him I’d happily leave him where he is however that’s not the case. Ideally we need a specialist placement for September next year as I’ll be pulling him from school

Crazy how alike our son's sound. When he was 2 he went to playgroup for an hour and a half and they called us in when picking him up to see if we noticed any 'unusual behaviours' absolutely we have 😂 luckily things moved on very quickly from there apart from a diagnosis. I'm very lucky that there's a special needs school 10 minutes from my house but there isn't another one for hours

Same as my son his needs are described as complex. We didn’t have to fight for a specialist setting though. It was decided at a high needs panel they looked well out of area for him to find a place that could meet need. If we have another year like the one we’ve just had then we will need to consider at his annual review meeting if we need to look at another setting for him

We have around 3 that I know of. One special school could meet his needs but because I already put a preference in for mainstream they went with that even though I asked for special if that makes sense. So if special wasn’t granted this is the one and only mainstream he’ll he going.
now school and myself have had meetings and both agreeed he needs special school. We’ve put it across to the LA a specialist setting, and just waiting to hear back from them now, if not it’s got to go to tribunal!
and you know what before talking on these threads I’d never known any other child to be like my son😂 this is why I like these threads because there’s others probably feeling how I’m feeling and makes me realise I’m not alone, unless you have a child with additional needs you can never really relate and that’s why I have no friends😂

You should get a decision this week I have everything crossed for you. I’m hoping I’m not too far behind going to spend Christmas preparing for tribunal getting all paperwork in place it’s a bit of a mess with sending bits in here and there 😂

😂😂 I would do the same tbh 😅 I’m waiting to speak to a DM on hold. She said no notes and not assigned and if she is being honest it won’t be this side of Christmas, I said I already know that I want to ask why claims after mine have been done!

I hope it’s a good outcome however you just never know. I’ve got all evidence prepared for tribunal but I really don’t want to do it if I’m honest
