Im not sure it’s allowed for your child’s own safety maybe be worth phoning and asking them though as you never know :) x

Thanks for the reply. Yes safety is a concern. I already have the videos from a few weeks ago when me and my partner took him a short distance with 2:1 support. We thought he’d manage ok due to the short distance, using his scooter so he didn’t need to walk and with rest stops. But he didn’t cope at all and my partner put his back out attempting to carry him :( I might send in a written description of the incident. So hard to prove as school don’t see him walking (he’ll happily run off into another classroom where he’s not supposed to be though 🤣)

It is so difficult to prove hrm my son is a wheelchair user and we had to jump through hoops maybe keep a weekly diary I do this for the care needs might help with mobility and do you have any Inout from physio or any professionals that can help the fight is hard but stick with what you believe your little one is entitled to it took us 28 weeks but we got there in the end xxx

Yes the diary idea might help, I did a diary for care like you and it was worth it. I’ve already sent physio/OT reports but it didn’t seem to be enough. I’m thinking of requesting a referral to wheelchair services as he’s 9 so he’s getting too big to carry, and he’s too strong to manage single handedly when he’s melting down.

Congrats on getting your child’s award :) was yours mandatory reconsideration too?

SD 28/06
New Claim

Anyone else with same SD, getting really inpatient now. Just want to know. Sent more evidence off Monday but has not been scanned yet. Just got a call from paediatrician to say she has now been diagnosed with Autism. Awaiting diagnosis letter in the post as would now need to send that off.

Hope that doesn’t push the waiting time back

Yeah it definitely helps with care needs and no so I did a coc when my son turned 3 he has one leg has tethered cords in his spine and can’t stand alone and uses a wheelchair apparently my word wasn’t enough so they sent me a letter back asking for physio ot and wheelchair services reports (even though all their details were added into my claim form) I would definitely recommend getting into wheelchair services your ot and physio can do a referral for you xx

That’s shocking with your child having those physical needs that they didn’t just award HRM straight away

Thank you so much. It’s been a whirlwind! I’m going to stick around for a little bit to see the outcome for some others. Sending all the love to everyone still waiting ❤️

MrsW12 · 07/11/2024 15:24

Another school pick up and nothing still. Inset day tomorrow so I’m thinking maybe Monday. If not, I’m gonna call them and ask them to call the school

Jumbocoffeemorning · 07/11/2024 16:26

Caved and rang about my DDs renewal with a S/D of 06/08. Apparently a decision has been made today but he wouldn’t tell me what. I asked to speak to someone who could tell me, he said no I have to wait 7-10 working days for the letter 🙄 So now I either wait or ring back to talk to someone else. Why do they have to make it so difficult, as if it’s not hard enough as it is.

Positive post!

MR SD - 13/06 21 weeks today.

i sent extra evidence yesterday, it was scanned on this morning and decision was made today. Increased award to HRC!

ive battled with myself over this because apart of me felt i should be grateful i was awarded at all first time around because i know so many have to fight for any award. But i knew in my gut we were not on the right rates for her needs and the wait was worth it. I can finally get my 14 year old daughter specialist teaching to come to school so she can get some education.

sorry for the long post! Im completely beside myself 🙌🏻😩😂

Does you daughter have an EHCP ? You can ask for a personal budget so that you can release funds to pay for anything extra from an education point of view

Yes she does. We got our final plan on the 3rd September but then the school added more stress by declaring they couldn’t meet her needs so that was another month of fighting and having meetings. We started her reduced timetable on the 10th October and the EHCP co-ordinator had to step in. So we’ve only had an active EHCP for about 8-9 school days so far. I didn’t know I could do that! I’ll have to look into it. Thank you so much for the advise

Thats brilliant that you’ve got an EHCP in place 👍 That’s just awful of the school but no surprise, 💯 because your daughter is on a reduced timetable you need to fill the rest of the day for her, That’s where the personal comes in, Also try to get some advice on an EOTAS package (Education other than at school) SENDIASS is a great place to seek advice from as well as other organisations, I don’t know what you have locally, I have space in my area who are always helpful for advice, You need to know all of your options xXx

Rang this afternoon and told that it is now with a decision maker, to listen for a call incase they have questions and that I should get a text when they have made a decision.
I'm praying that this time they are telling me the truth and that it actually is with a dm.

Yeah I'm 19/6 COC still not been looked at, even been escalated to be looked at quicker and by that im assuming they mean less than 20 weeks we already been waiting 🤣🤣
so hopefully hear something tomorrow and don't have to go another weekend stressing..
Fingers crossed for you 🤞🙌 x

Hopefully you get to hear something. I was told mine was emailed through to escalation team although I've been told alot of things that were wrong and probably only said so I would stop calling.
The times on coc and mr have been longer it seems.
Crossing my fingers you get something prior to the weekend. The wait is so bad xx

Yeah last week they told me I would definitely have an answer by 6th Nov, clearly lies to get you off phone, some tell me they don't have access to see where my claim is at some say "it's in progress" then next time I call it's ohh well maybe it's delayed because you sent extra evidence. Erm excuse me don't try fobbing me off with that bs my evidence was scanned on claim same day it was delivered because the escalation team or what ever there called told me so, you're just plucking at straws to get me off the phone, i think they make things up as they go. 😳😅
I wasn't gonna call today but I did and just same.. fobbed me off with call back if I don't hear anything... yeah no sht 🙄🤣

Edited

I genuinely do believe that they tell you whatever they think you want to hear. As frustrating as the wait it, I'd much rather they had told me the truth every time. I had a decision maker apologise to me for being told that it was being looked at.

I am trying to stay hopeful that they are telling the truth this time, even if it is a decline! I can at least take the next steps to tribunal xx

Yeah that's it, it's really frustrating for us all this waiting, also wish they actually worked in Date order so we had an actual idea but there's literally no order with the dates!! 😳🙄
I did a coc for Mobility component if it's a decline then I'm prepared for another 20+ week wait for MR if not same as you go to tribunal if I have to. The wait is horrendous but worth it for them.

Totally agree. I just wish they would consider the stress it puts on us with waiting as though our lives arent pressured enough. They are analysing and judging their decisions of the struggles our children have on the daily via wording on a form. I'll update hopefully on Monday, either way I'll be ringing to check with another advisor that it is indeed with a dm in the first place 🤦‍♀️ xx

Hello, just popping a message in. My son has ADHD, I've been told I may be entitled to DLA because of the care I provide/he needs. Have there been awards for ADHD alone? Isit worth me applying?

Thank you in advance

Absolutely Yes, Any care & guidance that you give to you son above & beyond a child of the same age you write absolutely everything, If you have supporting evidence that’s even better but not essential

Yeah make sure its special delivery if you can afford the extra, it is £8.35 which is steep 😳
But worth it as gets on their system same day, I sent mine Tuesday and was done Wednesday afternoon and I'm week 20 now 😅, make sure you put their reference number on papers to match claim x

You can send it signed for which still gives you proff of delivery it's £5.20
