Hi I have been a silent watcher andbI just wanted to post my long awaited positive outcome to hopefully be able to give people hope through this awful process.
I first applied in January (Scan date 17th jan) for my 2 year old boy (birthday is christmas eve so just turned 2) he has pica and is also on the waiting list for adhd/Austism assessment, he has very high care needs, 24/7 supervision because no danger awareness, he cannot communicate and at the minute is classed as non verbal, he does not sleep longer than 3/4 hours and when waking in the night needs constant supervision because he will do dangerous stuff and try and hurt himself he also has a lot of sensory issues. I sent in extra evidence such his report from his first pediatric appointment, audiology reports and health visitor reports. It got declined on the 7th of May and I put in a mandatory reconsideration on the 13th of may, I did it over the phone but then also sent a 12 page detailed letter about his care needs, added I had now had to give up work in April to care for him, doctors letter, health visitor letter, nursery letter (he started in April), sleep and eating diary. It got declined again on the 13th of September. I put in a appeal on the 1st of October with the help of my local citizens advice and today 21st of October my son has been awarded high rate care. Honestly cant believe it!! I hope this helps some people

Jeez just shows how they must just refuse applications without even looking at them!

It makes zero sense that you were refused then overturned and awarded the higher award (thankfully!)

This is what I don’t get! I think it’s disgraceful that in one breath you’re totally declined and on appeal get maximum award. wtf went wrong the first time around!?

gutted I didn’t post here before sending feeepost. I pray it doesn’t get bloody lost! 😞

ballybooboo · 21/10/2024 23:51

@Miguelo I sent mine in the free envelope and it arrived fine, I'm sure most do. I think it was scanned within a week of me posting it. I missed the original deadline (I explained why) so I thought it would be rejected but I assume it's all ok because I've been asked for my DC birth cert.

Did you remember to scan or photograph a copy of the form before you sent it? Because that is proof if yours does end up going astray in the post.

Thank you, I did it on the laptop so it’s saved there thankfully!

This is fantastic news. My little one is 4 and I worry that will go against me. May I ask what needs your child has?

Yes he's on the jade's list of autism, is mute and has some behaviour and sensory issues and wakes several times a night x

I don't believe he got any reward for mobility as the back pay is for 19 weeks exactly today which works out £108.55 pw

Kel3270 · 22/10/2024 09:43

Has anyone tried to call today? I've rang and gotten through 4 times and the caller has said they can't hear me. I've done it through mobile and house phone

Clf2024 · 22/10/2024 09:55

20w+5d into an MR and claim originally went in in January, cant bare the wait any longer 😖

Any other May MRs still waiting?

dshort1994 · 22/10/2024 09:58

Hi everyone. New claim 26/07 so still a while to go. Just wondered if anyone has been in a similar position and has any idea of what rate they’d likely award in our circumstances. My little boy is 3 and is on the waiting list for Autism. He’s shown signs since around 6 months old, doesn’t respond to his name, lacks eye contact, struggles with any change of routine. He can speak e.g he can say the names of lots of different objects but doesn’t use speech to communicate in any way. He’s recently started nursery and under the SENDCO, he’s doing a phased start as they thought doing 3 hours per day would be overwhelming for him. His behaviour is very aggressive at times, e.g when he’s frustrated he hits himself, bangs his head, hits others. This is usually caused by very minor things like if he’s watching something and an advert comes on he might throw his tablet and head butt something or hit someone. I put all of these things in his DLA form, but I didn’t have much evidence. Only reports from speech and language as he did 9 months, and a report from the school SENDCO who also completed a section of the form for me. Getting quite worried as I’ve seen people getting refused who’s circumstances seem to be worse. Anyone in a similar situation or know the rate they’d usually give in these circumstances? Any advice would be great, thanks 😊 x

Yeah but starting December he will be entitled to at least LRM because he's 5 it should state on the letter hopefully for you they consider it if he's 5 within 6 months of the decision is made of that makes sense

Sounds like maybe MRC but all depends on who's desk it falls on, my son is 3 is GDD, non verbal, can't communicate, is in nursery with his own teacher which is classed an like an inclusion which the local authority pays for the funding to have his own 1-1 throughout his nursery day, he's class is 4 teachers and 4 students, he bites and pinches, no danger awareness on the ASD pathway, ongoing SALT, peadatrican reports, Special Needs Early Years service do his assessment and has his own key worker with them, seen opthalmology as he walks with his eyes closed due to sensory issues, can't feed himself he doesn't sleep at all and is on melatonin he is awarded HRC but going through COC for mobility side
