Does anyone know how the disability element works with uc, do I just send them a message through the journal to say she’s been awarded and what she has been awarded?

Please talk some sense into me. I called yesterday and the person wouldn't provide me any update at all and said to call back 1st July. Do I be brave and call again or am I massively pushing my luck and being annoying if I do? I'm 16 weeks and 4 days now but they keep saying 20 weeks so they're probably not going to be happy with me. Last week they said I'd get a text when a decision was made so I'm guessing no decision has been made yet. Ugh, I need to be patient and wait, don't I? The not knowing is the worst, I'd rather know if it's a decline so at least I can start preparing for an MR.

100% call back. I found out through manager that they are not allowed to refuse to look at your claim. You have a right to have an update even if nothing has changed x

I would call, there’s scan dates after yours being awarded now so they must have something to tell you, good luck if you do call 🤞

Called just now, no update, it's with a decision maker and he said it can take weeks for a decision.

I'm guessing they don't have enough evidence or something, or they're contacting his school / doctors

Scan date 9/2 called yesterday and was still being looked at called today and I have been awarded it was 17 weeks tomorrow so looking roughly around 7 weeks good luck to all of you x

Just give them a call, I rang Monday and they told me there was no update and it could be up to 17 weeks and then I called today and they have awarded it. The lady that answered the phone to me was very nice too🙂

Well with my sons they told me it was with a DM but no decision yet and to ring back in a week I rang back the next day and he was awarded the day before think it just depends how quick some work through their load xx

That is possible but surely they would have told you on the phone if they are contacting school / doctors etc, I would call again tomorrow half the time they just tell you that to stop us calling again tomorrow

@Emma2345 I was told it was with a decision maker on the 24th May, just seems a really long time to be with them. Makes me think something isn't right with the application or something they need clarification from professionals maybe

unless when i called on the 24th May they were totally making it up and it wasn't with a dm which also might be the case 🙈🤣

Yes you can claim the carers element on uc even if you work, it’s only carers allowance you can’t claim if you earn something like over £140 a week

@Hay1312 hello. Just thought I'd let you know that I had to reduce hours at work too. I rang and asked my claim to go prorioty for financial hardship. My claim was processed within 2 days. Worth a try x
