Hi! From what you have written you 10000% should be getting DLA, it's not even all about the financial support it's also because some services ask for DLA award in order to access services.

You don't need a diagnosis in order to get DLA as it is based on care needs. You listed a lot of people involved with your son, that's fabulous and the paperwork from those people is what you can send as evidence. If you don't have evidence from someone who your son does see, you are well within your right to request supporting information. They may give you a write up outlining your son's needs which you can then provide with your application. You can use letters from paeds/ specialists outlining what happened in appointments and what was discussed. I also usually add in my own additional write up in order to say what I want to say on things that weren't in the questions. You could request the info which was sent to panel for his diagnosis also and use this.

All in all I'd say, you have a mountain of evidence to support your claim and there's absolutely no reason you should be struggling to do all this alone without support you are entitled to. Hope this helps ♥️

Thanks for your reply!

I'm going to do a bulk email I think and ask all professionals to do a report and then this way if he is declined I'll have it all ready for a MR.

It's so stressful the fact someone makes a decision on your child who has no idea of the realities of your life and what you and your child go through daily, this is what's always put me off, even when ingot the forms it took me a few weeks to do it as I just didnt know if he was entitled.

Access to services is hard ive been asking for help for over 4 years and it took my son having a missing episode where he was taken to the police station as some women thought he was homeless for services to join together, the easiest appointment was camhs, but then it's also been the longest with the waiting for his autism paperwork to go to panel and still waiting, our next fights going to be the pda diagnosis as that's so difficult to get and the ehcp, but hey its what we do for our kids because at the end of the day their quality of life, experience and education is whats the most important thing to me and if I have to continually fight for that for my son I will, same if anything comes along with my others x

Is there many people accepted for HRM for under 5 autism? Is it basically a long losing battle? If not awarded I’m not sure if I should fight

Couldn't agree with you more & I wish you all the luck in the world with your application. It really sounds like you've been through the ringer with services! I'm sorry you've had to go through this. I often feel like parents are made to feel guilty for going after support their children should be getting. It's like services think if they make it hard enough, people will stop trying and they won't have to pay out. It's so wrong! I get your feeling totally, they don't know our kiddos at all, but you know your son and you can do this ♥️

There are so many supportive people in this thread, it's well worth sticking around. It's helpful for support but also picking up information from the convos.

My oldest got HRC at 2. Criteria for HRC is night time needs. My oldest has a rare genetic condition with an arm long list of issues associated with it. But I was told when applying that it was because he needed support during the night which dictated HRC Vs MRC. Hope this is helpful. This was 4 years ago so if incorrect I apologise

Apologies, I misread your post as HRC. I've not had a lot of sleep today 🤧

I've heard of people getting HRM under 5 but it's either under SMI rules or they physically can't walk. We personally got HRC from 2-5 and then HRM added on review on his 5th birthday. Apologies for confusion.

Yeah I think my DD should definitely qualify for HRC, she sleeps 2-3 hours at at time all through the night I have seen every hour of the day the past 3 years, she had an incident at around 3.30am she woke up and splashed all in cleaning products and ended up with really bad chemical burns and was close to a skin graft but thankfully it healed itself 🙏🏼 but of course with DLA anything is possible they could still give lower!

The HRM is just so worrying for me, she should qualify under SMI/VUW rules but I know they are funny, I don’t want to make my mental health bad fighting for it to just end up the same outcome 🫣 the whole process is so hard on us already tired mamas! ☹️

Omg I'm so sorry to hear about the chemical accident, you must have been heartbroken! Glad to see it's all healed now.

It truly is so gruelling for us to go through, maybe wait until you get your decision to see how you feel about it and go from there? I've just done a MR and I didn't really feel like it was too stressful. The process was quite simple. I received a letter saying why they felt he was not eligible, so I called them and the lady did the MR over the phone with me and just asked me questions, whole conversation took maybe 15 minutes if that. So I used their reasons on the letter to explain why this wasnt right and why I disagreed. I also had additional information to give so I was able to mail that after the phone call after giving them a list of what I was sending over. (Apparently MRs are quicker if they're done over the phone.) I was advised about 12 weeks for it, but can be less. I feel like tribunal is probably pretty difficult, not looking forward to that if I have to go down that route but I think MR wasn't terrible.

I truly hope you get the award you deserve ♥️

My son is 4 and autistic, he has HRM under the virtually unable to walk criteria.

Aussielover · 27/05/2024 19:28

Hiya, I did a change of circumstances for mobility and submitted his EHCP, OT report, paediatric reports, a letter from health visitor, and his GP notes. I also did a cover letter explaining how he met the criteria and referenced some case law - there's a really good intro to this on the Contact website

He's autistic 😊
We have a lot of evidence of very pronounced sensory needs, anxiety, PDA, and ARFID too - plus significant motor planning delays etc

Shazzle88 · 28/05/2024 05:19

Yep. I wrote a cover letter explaining how he met the VUW and also SMI criteria and popped in some relevant case law for support x

Virtually unable to walk and severe mental impairment. They're two possible 'pathways' to qualify for High Rate Mobility

Scan date 7/2. Just rang and got the standard answer it's taking 16-20 weeks, so anytime from tomorrow til 26th June. I always use 523 option but I haven't often found it especially helpful 😔
