What date did you send your form? Was it the freepost way? I’m still waiting for my youngest daughters scan date, lady on the phone said it should be scanned on by week 3

I sent it on the 10th april next day recorded delivery, I knew it was recieved as I had the proof of postage I just find it strange iv still not had an acknowledgement letter. I called for the forms early March however it took me a long time to fill the forms in as I found it quite daunting and emotional to do

Yes you should of had a letter but theres a few people that have had nothing on these dla wait pages, i think they deal with everyones claim differently i dont think they actually stick to a rule book i think it depends which handler deals with your case as to which service you get if you know what i mean xx

Kita86 · 27/05/2024 10:57

Morning ladies, hope you are enjoying your bank holiday! I've been following this thread since 25 🤣 I've commented a few times but been away so spent 2 days catching up on all the threads since 🫣

My backdate will be to 18/12 as this is when I called for paperwork. Scan date was 05/01, declined in April (fully expected as only sent some HV paperwork as was waiting for everything else still and it didn't come in time). MR sent 06/05 over the phone with new evidence mailed 14/05 (freepost sadly, been kicking myself for it). Evidence from paeds, nursery supportive letter, LA/portage with initial assessment and nursery care plan, new HV evidence. Hoping for acceptance this time, if not will go to tribunal.

My questions after reading back are:
Did anyone who did a MR get a letter/ text to confirm the receipt of the additional evidence? As it's been 2 weeks tomorrow I am thinking to call to confirm they received it. I have copies of everything apart from the HV stuff to resend recorded if advisable.

Also regarding the carers element of UC. I get carers allowance, carers element and disability element for my oldest son. I know I cannot get carers allowance twice, and I know my youngest will be entitled to the disability element of UC once he is awarded - however what about the carers element? My husband works full time so is not eligible for the CA. Unsure on the rules of CE.

Thanks in advance, sorry for the long post. Hope those who are waiting will hear back soon. Especially @Matilde08! I have been following your story through the threads and I'm so sorry for what you have been through, hopefully it will be worth it soon ♥️

Anyone been awarded recently, how long has it took for the letter to arrive?

Matilde08 · 27/05/2024 12:39

@sayasand hope you will be accepted this time 🤞🏻💐
Thank you for your good thoughts. 🤞🏻 I really hope there's anything.. something this week. As much as I understand the case manager is back from annual leave tomorrow and hopefully it will be treated like an emergency. Have no idea who called me back last Thursday, but she seemed to be more in charge, but still couldn't say much when it will finally be sorted.

Aww I truly hope this is the case and it's only been the bank holiday that has held you back. It's so unfair how you have been treated. Hopefully all settled soon and you can get on with your life. X

My husband gets the carer element for one of my children and he works . I get it for my older son . My understanding is that you can work as many hours as you like and receive the carers element . Hope this helps

Thank you so much for the info, yeah I was hoping this would be the case. I've only recently moved to UC in January so I'm still getting used to how it all works. We have transitional protection as I'm worse off on UC than I was on tax credits (but you lose it once you input a change, so will lose once I let them know of any award if he gets one). With the extra carers element it will even it out. Appreciate the help as it's worried me greatly 🙏🏻

Hiya,

My scan dates 02/04, had no texts but two letters, one with scan date and one sorry were still looking at your claim.

I'm wondering how many people have been awarded with no evidence, from reading if your childs younger it gets declined as it could be behaviour for that age group.

My sons nearly 14 and has been diagnosed with depressive disorder, anxiety and tics. His paperwork has been sent to panel 7 months ago for autism diagnosis with possible pda but I'm still looking at another 18 months realistically until he even gets to panel. He takes medication for the above diagnoses and sees his consultant in camhs, he starts new therapy sessions tomorrow also with camhs. He has issues where he runs away, he has no road sense danger, he lashes out and is with verbally and physically aggressive, we have to lock the living room up at night as he comes down and eats all my food, frozen, fresh whatever is in, he soils himself and I have to make him change (camhs think its sensory seeking), he has to be watched through the night as he sets fires and has a smoke alarm in his bedroom the local fire department installed. He's also been referred to speech and language as he has no understanding around things that are said to him, zero empathy and doesn't understand emotions. He cuts up his clothes and the other children's, has broken beds, tvs, punched holes in the walls all whilst in the middle of meltdowns that can take hours for him to calm down. School are in the middle of sorting an ehcp and although he attends mainstream he doesn't attend lessons in mainstream, he's currently in a provision within the school where there's only around 6.other students as he finds normal lessons too overwhelming. The send team have now got someone from spectra working with him, theyre an autism support team.

I don't have any paperwork with reports ect as I never receive them from camhs, base 25 or youth offending all who he's doing different sessions with, I've always been given feedback either face to face or verbally over the phone. I did provide all professionals numbers and email addresses so if they needed they could contact them. He has an appointment tomorrow with his new therapist and the consultant for the things hes already diagnosed with so i dont know whether to ask for a report from them to send in.

I've always been hesitant to put in for dla but different professionals have said now I should put in for it, it's not about diagnosis it's about behaviour and the extra care my son needs I'm just stressing now I may be declined and have to do a mr which I probably won't because as I've said I've always been unsure to put in for it 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi! From what you have written you 10000% should be getting DLA, it's not even all about the financial support it's also because some services ask for DLA award in order to access services.

You don't need a diagnosis in order to get DLA as it is based on care needs. You listed a lot of people involved with your son, that's fabulous and the paperwork from those people is what you can send as evidence. If you don't have evidence from someone who your son does see, you are well within your right to request supporting information. They may give you a write up outlining your son's needs which you can then provide with your application. You can use letters from paeds/ specialists outlining what happened in appointments and what was discussed. I also usually add in my own additional write up in order to say what I want to say on things that weren't in the questions. You could request the info which was sent to panel for his diagnosis also and use this.

All in all I'd say, you have a mountain of evidence to support your claim and there's absolutely no reason you should be struggling to do all this alone without support you are entitled to. Hope this helps ♥️
