My son was awarded lrm and mrc last week . I've informed uc and heard nothing back I rang them and they said they have until 23/5 to confirm I receive dla however my assessment period ends on 18/5 if they do not confirm by this date I will not receive the full UC I should be entitled to as the DLA will trigger my benefit cap to be removed but obviously it won't if they've not confirmed on their end. Can I have the missing amount paid at a later date or have I got to go another month without what I'm entitled to?

I was awarded 4 weeks ago and uc have only just verified my daughters dla . They have sent a payment for what I should have had on my last statement for the disabled element . But the 4 months backdated has no time frame and has been sent to a decision maker .

Good afternoon everyone,
I have been following these posts for quite sometime and am waiting on a dla claim to be decided.
I have seen some users being given priority due to their current circumstances and earlier today there were some very choice posts, which surprised me, anyway I just wanted to give you all an insight on how things may be processed.
DLA receive thousands of claims a day, as do many departments within the benefit system and local authorities, hb, ctax etc.
There seems to be a huge increase in claims, hence the timescales.
To process claims fairly they are dealt with in date order, this is the easiest and fairest way to process.
Sometimes when it gets to a decision maker they may write for further information which they feel is required for the claim.
If some one believes they are in hardship they can ask for their claim to be processed quicker based on their circumstances. This will be determined by a dm as to whether it is a priority.
If there is a terminal illness claim these are dealt with as a priority and quite quickly, obviously because of the nature of the claim.
Finally, the customer service staff taking the calls, yes some may be abrupt and some rude which may not be acceptable but they are dealing with you all as the first point of call and they are not dm's and can only give the very basics and yes it may not be the same every time, because it is probably changing on a daily basis.
Please don't give up on your claims they will be dealt with but it will take time and if you are not successful/ or do not agree with the award the you can request a mandatory reconsideration.
This will also take some time due to the fact of the amount of claims being received, it has a knock on effect for MR's.
I hope that I have not offended anyone, as I have found that you are all supportive of one another, it is hard for you all.
Thanks

Defiantly, PIP is the same 72 weeks wait for renewals, my partner had to do his renewal in February and its isn't up till October 24, I do not bother phoning DLA as they same all the same thing, mine Is only been 10 weeks though, my eldest receives HRC took 13weeks last April so time frames havnt changed since then, I agree through need to sort the system out.

I get £400 taken off me for the benefit cap if they don't confirm dla before 18th that will taken off me still. Will they pay me this after 23rd when they confirmed DLA or is it only the disabled element and carers element that I'll get back?

Mummy595 · 15/05/2024 16:14

ADT13 · 15/05/2024 15:08

If you don't mind me asking, does your son have a sense of danger?
Our son doesn't have it; he will just run on the street if we don't always hold his hand. His walking is very clumsy. We are hoping to get HRM just because we could have access to the Motability scheme; otherwise, we cannot afford a car.
We would rather not have to care but have Motability because of that, as we struggle in that part when we go to school, etc.

No my son has no sense of danger he runs from home and school we have to keep doors and windows locked as he has jumped out of his bedroom window and runs towards the river /road / strangers etc. Our school run is a nightmare as we live about 3 miles from the school and also cannot afford a car

I’m assuming it should be everything your owed the difference in what they have taken for the benefit cap , carers element if you have applied and the disabled element . They will also owe you all that backed from when your dla claim started as it’s not your fault it’s taken them so long to make a decision . Uc are so slow when I was awarded for my sons last year it was the same im sure it took my around 6 weeks to get what they owed me .
