I hope no one minds me asking but are you claiming for behavioural or physical issues?

If behavioural such as autism, has your little one got a formal diagnosis? I’ve seen people without a diagnosis be awarded and I’ve also seen people with a diagnosis be refused. I know lots of factors come into this but there doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason to it all.

My DD is 9 and has a formal diagnosis but the only evidence I have is her autism report. The report does include comments from the school but it also includes that she masks at school which is quite typical for girls. I’m nervous that they will contact the school and the school will say she doesn’t need too much support which isn’t completely untrue but that’s because she keeps it all in and blows up at home after school. She also has sensory issues, social issues, toileting issues, obsessive behaviours and routines and is an unable to share or manage her emotions. This is all detailed in her report but it’s just so stressful knowing that a decision is made based on what is on paper. It’s so hard to explain just how much support our children need and that a decision is in the hands of someone with no medical knowledge.

Your DD sounds a lot like mine (nearly 8), except she hasn't got a diagnosis.

We received MRC and LRM and all I sent was a report from her initial appointment with the paediatrician, a letter to say she had been accepted on the ASD pathway and a report from an OT sensory assessment that I arranged privately.

I didn't have any evidence from the school (and they didn't contact them) nor anyone complete the person who knows them bit.

I was however very detailed and specific in my answers and wrote an additional 3000 words at the end in answer to some of them.

Awh bless you. It is so hard, and the wait is just awful.
Im claiming for my daughter who has Cerebral Palsy, she’s 3. Has a formal diagnosis but I didn’t have anything else to include with the claim.

My sister has recently been awarded DLA for her daughter who’s 5 and showing signs of ASD. She doesn’t have a diagnosis yet, but going through the process. She does the same and masks at school so all hell breaks loose when she gets home. My sister didn’t have anything really to include with her claim and they didn’t contact the school. She was awarded MRC and LRM until end of 2026.

Hoping they take on board everything you’ve included and they give the award your little one deserves 💕 xx

They said mine was requested on the 19th march. When was yours?x

Mine was on the 15th March xx

Summerrabbit · 02/04/2024 13:59

@Nickij2024 My daughter sounds similar to yours but she’s nearly 6. She is now home Ed because school were so rubbish at supporting her & she developed burn out & had symptoms similar to depression. Similar to you if they contact the school we’ll be screwed as they think theyre amazing at supporting her & she’s totally fine! I’m scan date 15/12 so I’ll let you know how I get on.

Anxiouslywaitingmum · 02/04/2024 14:08

@Nickij2024 my son has a diagnosis of ODD which we got in December 2023, he heavily masks at school and we have no support, apart from a one plan which they've had to do because of his diagnosis.
I've had to fight for everything since he was 6 because of his masking, I really hope the DM doesn't contact the school as they don't see what we see.
He's 11 and he still sleeps with me, everyday is a fighting struggle.
I know he'll be declined for DLA, just because of the fight we've had so far, this will be another hurdle, but I can only hope.

Hi all. I rang today, no update. The lady said to allow another 2-3 weeks and they are currently getting through the beginning of December. Scan date 20/12

Oh I told myself I wouldn’t ring and then I found myself on hold to them. It’s too tempting isn’t it 😂 fab I will keep you updated if I hear anything soon. I’m hoping to hear something by the end of next week x

Awww you’re around my date too! The wait is too long isn’t it 😫😫x

Leopardprintleelan · 02/04/2024 14:57

@Mumof1J @Jadexxx92 yes I've had to stop myself a few times, I know what I'm like though and I'll get obsessed and annoyed at the 14 different answers. Crossing everything for lots of awards this week for everyone. Looking at some of the dates of today's award posts it looks like they did work all weekend!

Jadexxx92 · 02/04/2024 15:14

@Mumof1J @Leopardprintleelan the wait seems endless, I think I have seen up to th 12th December being awarded, but then there are people waiting still from the end of November so who knows, let's hope sooner than later 🤞🤞 I found out late Thursday afternoon my sons MR was awarded and have been granted HRM so that's one down at least lol

Jadexxx92 · 02/04/2024 15:16

I just want to be told its with a DM 😂

Ah right didn't realise you were waiting for an MR as well. How long were you waiting for the MR out of interest, and what rate was it changed from? (Just cos I'm nosey lol) it is such a long wait already I can't imagine how the November people feel it's so frustrating. It's what we do though and we'll keep fighting as long as it takes!!

My boy got HRC he is almost 4 we put in for HRM as COC was rejected did MR over the phone 6th FEB sent more evidence took 8weeks and was awarded. New claim is for his younger brother almost 3 same issues Global developmental delay suspects ASD. I knew he meets all criteria under SMI and VUW but was preparing for a fight at tribunal

Ah right OK I'm with you now, glad you got the award you know he deserves!! I think everyone has an idea of what they expect from the criteria, but unfortunately I think a lot just feel deflated if they're awarded lower and don't fight it as they've no fight left! I agree with you, I'm prepared to fight as long as hard as I have to!

Jadexxx92 · 02/04/2024 15:32

@Leopardprintleelan thank you, its was a huge surprise to hear he was awarded.

mrsclarke89 · 02/04/2024 15:36

Well ive just phoned and told we have been declined. I cannot believe it. We had two strong reports detailing hes extra care and a risk assessment from school and they think as hes 3 he may need extra support anyway and we have no diagnosis and as he has some words and can count he fine??!! Ive
Gone immediately for a MD. Im so upset xx

@mrsclarke89 Sorry, think you had the same dm I did, we got declined mainly for no diagnosis, even though one is not needed. Keep fighting x

CornishMama2 · 02/04/2024 15:51

Just got off the phone, it didnt even ring! No music, just straiggt through!
Mine is 'definetly with a decision maker' She just told me. And if I dont hear anything by the end of next week, then to ring again. Had a million security questions, think the only question missed was when I had my last period 😂😂 She was really nice though

S3108 · 02/04/2024 15:52

Ive just emailed his pre school and the manager cannot believe it after everything we sent. I feel so gutted. I cant work as he can only manage 3 hours at a time a few mornings a week and we are struggling. Will see how the MD goes :( x
