I really hope India does write about it on Sunday - this really is a story that needs to be re-dressed in the media otherwise it 'normalises' this woman's behaviour.

I suppose there is one good thing about this story..... At least it shows that parents of disabled children aren't 'special people' selected by god because they're the only ones up to the job

ha ha I wondered what someone had tried to write on there thestands. Do you have a copy you can post here?

heartinthecountry · 07/03/2008 11:39

Excellent post Fio.

I am about to email you btw.

wannaBe · 07/03/2008 11:43

ooooh had wondered too what the post was that had not complied with the "house rules" did anyone actually read them btw? or am I the only one that always clicks "yes i agree" to the terms and conditions without actually reading them first?

chonky · 07/03/2008 11:44

Brilliant post fio - and everyone else. Will post later on this afty.

2shoes · 07/03/2008 11:46

fio I am proud of you

chonky · 07/03/2008 11:52

I'm rather proud of us all 2shoes . Hurrah to the MN SN board.

Oblomov · 07/03/2008 11:54

Fio your post was brilliant.

theheadgirl · 07/03/2008 11:56

Just read it Fio - bloody fantastic.

Oblomov · 07/03/2008 11:58

Oh I have seen India Knight blog aswell, how brilliant.
Oh I feel really proud of us all.
I just felt that NO ONE has posted anything questioing her decision, such as we have discussed here.
I feel it is balanced now, and that is all I ask.

moira199 · 07/03/2008 11:59

Fio's post was outstanding - no one will dare to call her 'brave' after reading that. If 'thestands' (great i'm sure) comment was removed from the bbc site for legal reasons, it's probably best not to put it here either - which is a shame

good post fio

I've written a review of the book on amazon. apparently it takes up to 24 hours to appear on the site so I imagine there's a chance it might not, given I only gave it a one star rating and urged people not to buy it!

yurt1 · 07/03/2008 14:26

I was still thinking about this, wandering back from work, and it occurred to me that I really wouldn't have called what she did a decision (let alone a well-researched one).

It wasn't a decision. It was a reaction.

Villette · 07/03/2008 15:39

I've posted a a review on Amazon as well. I gave it one star as I don't think it's possible to give it zero.

There was a review (possibly by wannaBe) urging people not to buy it plus a gushing five star review (possibly by a friend of Julia) saying what a moving and dramatic read it is and how it offers great insight into what it is like to care for a disabled child, etc. I pointed out that she only did it for FIVE months.
