@Sodie
im so sorry to hear what happened to your daughter. Ours is also scanned 23rd march. The lady on the phone said it’s in the over time pile to be done this weekend. So hopefully we’ll all hear something by the end of next week or early the week after. You’ll definitely be looking at hrc hrm. With the hrm you can trade in the reward for a motabilty car of your choice. Hopefully the extra money will bring some improvement to your lives x

Sodie · 02/06/2022 11:01

@Sarah3587 thank you. Honestly life is so hard right now. She has the energy for nothing, she can't use a phone or any screens because it makes her sick. Her mind fog is so bad that I was questioning if she had brain damage. Camhs crisis team wanted her sent to ty liddiard which is an inpatient adolescent mental health unit. But she's only bloody 11. Ot have said to be prepared that it may take years to see small improvements. We are doing cfs management but I feel so cruel.

Chattycatty · 02/06/2022 11:39

Hi all. We are still waiting date scanned 24th March. My ds has a diagnosis of inattentive and impulsive adhd and asd. I didnt know you could apply for dla without a diagnosis and I have a fear I haven't put enough detail in what a real day is like. I think we will be refused. Does anyone know if you can appeal?

Legofigure · 02/06/2022 11:40

Sodie adolescent CAMHS units admit from 12 and occasionally outside the normal age range depending on individual circumstances. If a CAMHS unit is necessary but that one isn’t suitable there are ones that take younger DC. DS1 attended one for a while as a day patient from the age of 6.

Have you had social care assessments and a continuing care assessment?

Legofigure · 02/06/2022 11:41

@Chattycatty Yes, you can appeal. If you are refused or aren’t awarded the level you think is appropriate you ask for a mandatory reconsideration and if you are still refused or aren’t happy you appeal.

Sodie · 02/06/2022 12:32

@Legofigure the plan is for a stepping stones tutor for her to build a relationship with. To then have the same tutor one to one at a specialist mental health specialist school. The school only takes 10 children and is extremely flexible. But right now she is far too weak to do anything, ot have said the focus is on the fatigue management. She also has ptsd stemming from her time in hospital, she is terrified of everyone medical. Because of this camhs have said for her to be left alone because there's a big fear that she will go back into the deep sleep. They said it was her minds way of protecting itself. She just completely shut down and didn't wake up. It's such a complicated situation, also bloody exhausting.

Legofigure · 02/06/2022 12:41

Social care assessments (carer’s assessment for you and assessment by disabled children’s team for DD) and a continuing care assessment will help relieve some of the pressure on you if you haven’t already had them.

Sodie · 02/06/2022 12:57

@Legofigure ot and physio and have spoken about this but she can't at present have any interactions with anyone. They have really bent the rules with everything regarding her right down to her wheelchair fitting. Because of how at risk she is from shutting down again. But I will ask again if this can be done via video call. I pushed to have her discharged from hospital whilst she was still in a deep sleep because I knew she would not wake up in hospital. It took two weeks home for her to wake up. We are lucky she is alive but it is an ongoing battle for her. Just bloody praying we get awarded hrm for her.

Legofigure · 02/06/2022 13:23

@Sodie There’s no reason the social care assessments can’t be done via video call or by a F2F meeting but just with you so DD doesn’t have to meet/see/speak with them. The continuing care assessment might be harder to achieve via virtual appointment, but isn’t impossible.

Nicky80catri · 02/06/2022 13:24

Is the phone line open today guys x

Mumabear239 · 02/06/2022 13:34

Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone is awaiting a change of circumstances decision? Scan date 7th April , called yesterday for an update and was told it has to sit for 17 weeks before it can go in queue for DM I don’t understand this as she said it’s not due to back log that’s just they way they deal with a change of circumstances I am so confused can anyone shed light on this .

NoWordForFluffy · 02/06/2022 13:42

No, @Nicky80catri, as it's a BH. Any OT is the decision makers only, not the call centre.

Nicky80catri · 02/06/2022 13:44

@NoWordForFluffy how very rude of the queen to have a jubilee.... Lmfao xx

NoWordForFluffy · 02/06/2022 13:49

Ha, isn't it?! 🤣

Hopefully your claim will be dealt with over the weekend though.

Mamto2boys · 02/06/2022 13:51

I've just finally found rhis second thread 😅 haven't sar and read all the comments just a few and absolutely worrying about the steps they take (phone calls to school) as my son has only juat started the school in September for Y2 and has had 3 different class teachers so no one really knows him and this worries me!! I hate this system, its not correct or fair.

Bizzlemizzle · 02/06/2022 14:40

Regarding the EHCP, the LA totally refused to let me even start one and said that school had to do it. This was before any reasonings were given, just a "Nope, talk to school" fortunately they were already on with it all and we should have an ehcp in place for the next school year or before Christmas. His current teacher is amazing, but I am worried about the transition to the next school year with a new teacher but they have got plans for him to make it a bit easier for him.

I've lost count of how many intervention sessions he has, it doesn't sound like he's actually in lessons much. He was excluded very soon after his diagnosis. But after both of them school put their foot on the peddle with support.

Renewals are different, they are currently working on back end of June renewals according to the man I spoke to the other day, I am mid July so 2 to 3 weeks for me. Obviously those who are sending in now for early june renewals will get looked at before the renewal date.

Polly421 · 02/06/2022 15:08

I just received a message about my UC from a decision maker. So hopefully they have lots of staff opting to work in the DLA section too over next few days to get things moving for you all.

Legofigure · 02/06/2022 15:20

@Bizzlemizzle It is unlawful for the LA to refuse to accept an EHCNA request from you and you could have enforced it via Judicial Review.

and we should have an ehcp in place for the next school year or before Christmas.

What week are you on currently? Christmas would breach the statutory timescales. Even an EHCNA request made now would need to be finalised in October.

Sarah3587 · 02/06/2022 15:45

@Mamto2boys i understand your concerns but presumably if they have high care needs at home then they’ll need the same or similar level of care at school. For example my daughter got high rate care because she can’t be left alone and Obviously it’s the same at school for her too, so even if she did go to a new school they’d Know this about her within 5 minutes of just being with her.
i suppose the Dla need evidence and naturally they’re going to go to the child’s school to Back this up. Always good to have evidence from all avenues just in case.

Bizzlemizzle · 02/06/2022 16:04

@Legofigure the application hasn't been sent anywhere yet. They are currently gathering evidence on the advice from the ASD team. It's a lot to get into on here but it makes sense what they said they were doing.

Our LA is terrible, I couldn't even find the right contact details for child services. I always have to contact the customer service to find contact details. It's like they hide them on purpose, other LA near to us have all details on their sites quite openly and from what's been said by school and asd team they are really difficult to deal with on their part too which is why they are having an evidence gathering period to minimise chance of rejection.

Legofigure · 02/06/2022 16:13

@Bizzlemizzle You don’t need to wait, you can make an EHCNA request now. IPSEA have a model letter you can use. The whole point of the EHCNA is to gather evidence and assessments. You have enough evidence to get over the initial EHCNA threshold. Waiting just delays matters.

Here is a list of email addresses for Director of Children’s Services.

Ilovetea13 · 02/06/2022 17:02

Ah yeah sorry I'm on 9 weeks not 10 - I can't count 😂 . Overtime pile wow! Hope yours gets looked at soon xx

NoWordForFluffy · 02/06/2022 17:05

@Sarah3587, my masking DS doesn't need anywhere near the same care at school. He doesn't meltdown or attack people there. They do now have a support plan in place, but it's nothing compared to what we have to deal with at home.

Ltb17 · 02/06/2022 17:23

@Ilovetea13 yeah it's basically people who work bank holidays and weekends so I'm assuming it will be looked at this weekend at some point. I don't think it's done in any particular order just depends on the desk it lands on because I've seen plenty of people after me been awarded already. Thanks, hopefully you're not waiting too much longer either

Mamto2boys · 02/06/2022 18:15

@Sarah3587 that's the misconception many people have, that they need the same level of care at school as they do at home. Which isn't always true, he needs high level of care at school but it's different to outside of school. As his behaviours don't always present themselves as much at school yet half of the city and surrounding villages will have encountered my child in some way purely through his behaviours when out. He has zero danger awareness, no understanding for actions and their consequences, and has no fear or proper understanding of most basic situations. He doesn't get chance to show some behaviours at school as he does with family or out in public because of the setting.. but I was more concerned about how he has had 3 class teachers since starting a new school in September so no one really properly knows him and will have all encountered different behaviours (as I've has phone calls home in regards to them) which is therefor not an accurate account of who my child is or the level of care truly needed. Luckily however I have sent in extra evidence (original scan date 12th april) and some of it I sent contained letters and partial reports from his previous school (teacher, Head teacher and SENCO) as they were ao concerned foe his behavior to himself and others as well as a letter from the senco at his previous school stating all manner of dangers behaviours and the fact they had a "no staff alone" with my child policy because they witnessed him really injur him at preschool whilst screaming get off me your hurting me etc and other untrue things.. I hope they have looked at the extra evidence I have supplied
