Twinmummyanda6yearold · 08/06/2022 20:24

@NoWordForFluffy yes I'm sure we're both 12th April.. mine was dated 30th May too.. I've seen people on the DLA fb group getting decisions from April already so keep holding hope mines been sent to the right DM🤞🏼🤣 you'll have to let me know if you hear anything 🤞🏼

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2022 20:34

I'm stalking my bank account for a pending payment! 🙈🤣 Some people have already been awarded from 12 April. I'm very jealous upset! As soon as I hear, I'll let you know.

Memum22 · 08/06/2022 20:55

Me too. I’m just reading quietly until my time gets closer 🙈

Memum22 · 08/06/2022 20:57

@Amberb83 mine is the 27th April too, I’m just quietly reading in the background till my time comes closer 🙈

gemma1988 · 08/06/2022 21:07

Hiya everyone. I've been watching this post for a few weeks. Well done to everyone who's been successful with there DLA claims. So sorry to the ones that haven't (that will be me). I have 2 sons. One aged 10 who is diagnosed with autism and my 4 year old who's on the pathway. I was told by my health visitor to apply for DLA for my youngest. My forms were scanned 6th April so it's around 9 weeks for me. I rang yesterday not with a DM yet. Reading a lot of comments I don't think I have put enough evidence in. I am having a issue with the nursery. Telling me one thing in person then not backing it up in writing! So if someone from DLA rings the nursery I know they won't co operate. Just hear for the rant sorry in advance x

Sarah3587 · 08/06/2022 21:14

From reading through comments it seems I’m one of the few who hasn’t got a child with autism. They really need to do more research into why autism is so common these days. Needs a lot of money thrown into the cause.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2022 21:16

We're just doing a post-diagnosis parenting course for parents of autistic children. That came up last night. And it's not more common, it's just recognised and diagnosed more (particularly in girls).

gemma1988 · 08/06/2022 21:30

H's nursery teacher told me about all these signs and traits he shows at nursery. His doctor asked for a copy of this as part of his diagnosis. The letter included nothing she told me at parents evening. I asked his teacher if someone from DWP rings about information of H to tell them what she told me at parents evening. She looked me up and down and said I quote 'in all the years I have been a teacher a parent has never ever asked me for help to get money'. I've never felt so small in all my life 🥺My son needs constant supervision I know most 4 year olds do but he is a danger to himself especially outside and on a night when I am asleep. I feel so stressed and drained I'm sick. He doesn't speak as good as other kids and communication is a nightmare. I was hoping to use DLA for private speech therapy.

Sarah3587 · 08/06/2022 21:32

@NoWordForFluffy oh yes I’m sure it’s always been quite common. I know for a fact my mum has it to some degree. She is very sensitive to anything too sensory and has misses alot of social queues. She had an iq test for when she was 6 because they were concerned about her behaviours but had she been born today and got help she wouldn’t have gone through the things she’s had to go through I’m sure.
what I meant really, is that it’s about time they put more money into finding out the exact causes, because with the amount of diagnosed children they have a moral obligation to fund the research needed.

Sarah3587 · 08/06/2022 21:35

@gemma1988 of your son is struggling in school and not receiving the medical and educational help he needs then you need to put in a formal complaint to your local authority and change his school.

gemma1988 · 08/06/2022 21:43

I have a email in my drafts that I am going to send to the school in a couple of days when I calm myself down. I am a shy person and hate confrontation but I need to fight for my son. They told me years ago that L my eldest wasn't autistic and he was. He also has learning difficulties too. There's another little boy in my son's class who is autistic and very challenging, I feel like they are comparing my child to this child if that makes sense.

Ltb17 · 08/06/2022 21:45

@Sarah3587 I have 3 boys, my youngest showed obvious traits of autism from a very early age, when we had this confirmed the paediatrician offered us genetic testing to see if there was a link, we decided to go ahead and there is a gene we each have that is common in those with autism, since then myself and other 2 children have all been referred, I've been diagnosed now, still waiting for other 2 children. For me it made sense, I have always known something wasn't quite right with me as far as my sensory processing goes. I agree with what you say their really needs to be more research into the causes and genetics behind it

I was told off my son's consultant if you have one child with autism you are 90 percent higher at having another. I don't like to say this but because children look 'ok' doesn't mean that they are ok. I'm so sorry just need a rant.

Mamto2boys · 08/06/2022 23:09

Hey guys, scan date April 12th, I got a letter today with "sorry we've not made a decision" etc, how long after this letter are you still roughly expected to wait begote a decision please? Thanks.

Scanner20 · 09/06/2022 06:53

@Mamto2boys mine was a just over 2 weeks later after I received this letter. I do think it depends how quick the dm works that your case has been given to as my case was dealt with quickly when the date came around

StormySam · 09/06/2022 07:20

@Mamto2boys I got that letter about 8 weeks before a decision. It definitely varies.

Amberb83 · 09/06/2022 07:40

Snap on that! @Memum22 I'm very hopeful the wait isn't too much longer! Not getting very far with the nhs so hoping if awarded to use the money to go private.. seems to be the only way you get anywhere or are taken seriously. Am sick of hearing 'covid backlog' as the reason we are still waiting on referral appointments...been waiting since August 21!!! I've become that annoying person that calls the hospital every day...First name terms with the receptionist now!! I'm even annoying myself!!

Katelouise95 · 09/06/2022 07:43

@Mamto2boys i got my letter apologising they haven’t made a decision 2 months ago and still not heard back yet. It only just went to a DM Monday ! 😅

Indr · 09/06/2022 07:53

@Amberb83 the process is ridiculous and so long ! My daughter started pre school at 3 they started having words with me etc as I didn’t know anything about ASD they made all the referrals etc it was only February this year she was diagnosed with ASD sensory processing disorder she’s 6 took 3 years covid did play a part in aswell

Katelouise95 · 09/06/2022 08:03

@Indr that is literally the same as me and my ds. Took 8 years for his diagnosis since they questioned things in reception at school! They got him an echp in year 3 and that finally sped things along but still sooo long!! He finally got his diagnosis this year and he’s turning 9 soon.
