That's all really, stays awake till about 10 or 11, hitting, spitting, throwing, scratching. He has done this every night for 4 months. I am soooo tired and tearful.

Too hot, followed within 30 seconds by too cold, hungry, thirsty, not tired, needs a particular cuddly toy that is at grandmas house, wants to go for a drive, etc etc etc. You name it, its a reason why he cant sleep.
He is calm right now, but still wide awake.

If no one is outside his door he will come out and hurt his sister.
And he used to be as good as gold at night, we put him to bed then didn't hear from him again till the morning. This all started suddenly one day in April.

At the moment he is building dens from his sheets.

On the melatonin - for some reason my GP cant prescribe this, the initial prescriptions come from pead or psych - they sent letter to GP and pharmacy. When I need more the GP will then issue repeat prescription. However discussing dose, reviewing medication is all done with the specialists not GP. Its clunky but there must be something about gps not being the right person to prescribe long term sleep medication for a child this young. Can you call your pead and ask to review in detail w them.

We haven't seen a pead, I guess the GP would have to refer him for that. It was 11.20 before he went to sleep last night.

Sorry, polter, I missed you post about videoing him. I'm not sure what that would achieve, Dr would just see a door being held closed whilst ds threw stuff the other side. Actually, his anger was much less then usual, mostly calm, with moments of anger in between. I gave up at 10 and went to bed at 10.30, and left dh to deal with him till 11.20. If I knew it was going to be that long I would have stayed up to support him. The latest before that was 10.40 so I though I was ok to go to bed. Whoops

Hi I had word with psych today re melatonin (part of our ususal review process). GPs can prescribe melatonin the specialists do it for us because they are the ones we work with regarding behaviour issues that come about when sleep is bad

Thanks, ill ask. Camhs have referred him to a sleep clinic, at the end of Aug, so, if I can cope, I'll wait to see what they say first.

ilove, that's great. Smile

dS just dropped off. He actually wasn't distressed tonight, just bouncy and fidgety.

Hey greener. Sorry you're struggling with bedtimes too. There are a few people around on the thread who have experience with melatonin.

Hi jackster, I'm pleased he wasn't distressed, and 9.30 isn't too bad.

Rather nervously posting DS (15 deafblind) has Chloral Hydrate to be used when desperate (frequently) but only use it X3 a month maximum, fortunately he is quite placid but his sleep pattern throws him out of kilter and likes to sleep 01.00 until 10.00 not good for education targets Sad but it does give me the odd night of sleep. Melotonin not good due to increased seizure activity.
Good luck my heart goes out to you. X

Thanks 2old. We have had two good nights in a row, so I'm (rather optimistically) hoping that we have broken the habit and gone back to a sensible sleep pattern.
If not, ill be re reading all the advice on here.

One hour so far and still wide awake. I was too optimistic thinking he might have broken the habit. I've decided to let dh have a turn so I can watch casualty!
