That's all really, stays awake till about 10 or 11, hitting, spitting, throwing, scratching. He has done this every night for 4 months. I am soooo tired and tearful.

Don't be sorry polter, lack of sleep is bad, whatever the reason.

Someone up the thread warned me that this medicine might have the opposite effect of keeping him awake, and I can certainly say it isn't helping him sleep!

It's quiet upstairs, don't know if he is dropping off, or if it's cos he finally got the slice of bread he was screaming for.
He ate a huge dinner at 5.30, snack at 6.30, hot chocolate at 7.30, there is no way he could really be hungry.

good for you Jackster, have a good evening Smile

I went up at 9.35 to take my shift, DH said he would do a bit longer.

It seemed v quiet, so i went up again at 10, to find DS fast asleep in bed, and DH fast asleep on the floor outside his room!

to be honest, I think it was just another excuse not to go to sleep!
We have a meeting with OT on Friday, so we can see what she thinks about sensory issues.

Please don't hold back on using Phenergan, if it's been prescribed. It's essential that you all get sleep or you'll go crazy (I have been there and Phenergan was a life saver sometimes). After years of sleep issues, my son (now 14) was finally diagnosed with ASD and given a prescription for Melatonin. It has definitely helped and I wish he'd been given it years ago.

Best of luck with the OT meeting later this week.

Hi jackster,
Do you give your DS any medicine to help him sleep?

He sounds distressed, where as my ds is just v strong willed and not at all tired.

ilove - when we last saw the paed a few weeks ago, she said she wanted to leave it another 6 months before discussing melatonin. I'm wondering though whether to try ringing the CDC to ask if we can see her again sooner. I guess I could try GP (who I assume could not prescribe melatonin, only phenergan).

I think perhaps if we could break this (relatively new) cycle of terrible anxiety and distress before bedtime, we might be ok - ie we only need something short term. We have longer term problems with settling (ie needing mum/dad cuddling to sleep), but that I feel I could deal with if we could just sort these big bedtime meltdowns out.

Sorry, rambling there (and hope I'm not taking over your thread too much Blush).

How are things going with you this eve?

You mention that you have given him 10mls tonight. Is that all the GP said to give him? It's just that I have a bottle of phenergan syrup here which says for use as a short term sedative the suggested dose is four to five 5ml spoonfuls (so 20-25mls). I don't know if it comes in different strengths though. This one is 5mg/5ml.

Just read through this whilst sitting on ds's bedroom floor willing him to sleep Hmm
He's been full on choirboy singing (sorry neighbours), screaming at me, slapping me.
He's now calm, but keeps sticking his head up to tell me he's not tired.

I had no idea there was anything you could take for this - is it worth talking to the GP about!

GP said to try 5 ml for a couple of days, increase to 10ml if it didn't work. Well he fell asleep at 945 so I would say 10 ml didn't work either. I'll keep going fir 10 days, which is the max the GP will give it for.

Jackster, it might help you to break the cycle if you get something prescribed for a week or so.

Fav, welcome! Its not nice to see others going through the same stress, but please feel free to join us each night, it helps to offload the stress by moaning on here, and sharing ideas.

I'm off to bed now, I've got to leave the house at 7 tomorrow morning. Night, hope you all get the chance of some sleep soon

Do your dc sleep through?

Ds has regular nightmares and wakes up looking for things, or thinking he's seen something. He never remembers it in the morning bough.
Thankfully this has calmed down since school holidays.

Obviously if that's what the GP prescribed that's what you should give but it might be worth speaking to the GP again as that seems a rather low dose for sedation given that they suggest that as a day time dose for allergies. I had been given the phenergan by the pharmacist and hadn't seen my GP - who might have had a different opinion. But it was a Saturday afternoon, GP surgery closed and I was very desperate. Luckily for me it really helped for the few nights I gave it to him and I got enough sleep to be able to do the 5 hour drive I had on the Monday.
