Can we carry on talking about MNSN til we get a Chat Thread sorted out?

Just wanted to link to this before the other thread got full.

Lougle, for some reason when I read 'Brace, Brace' the words in my head were 'Clench, Clench'

It has been a long day.

lougle · 14/03/2013 17:43

That could work, hazey..

'Clench, clench those teeth when you want to tell them they're being frankly ridiculous!'

'Clench, clench your buttocks as you want to get off the chair and storm out of the room!'

'Clench, Clench your fist as your fingers hover over the keyboard, ready to write that scathing email that will destroy the years of fragile relationship building you have done...'

See...there is potential.

hazeyjane · 14/03/2013 19:04

I am definitely having a CLENCH day here, my jaw is aching from clenching all day.

I used to go to a yoga class where the teacher would say, 'clench, clench, clench your buttocks...........and reeeelax.' it used to make me pee myself laughing (most unseemly in a yoga class.

HelenMumsnet - thankyou for email, I think a sn:chat section would be great. Smile

justabout, just Envy

StarlightMcKenzie · 14/03/2013 19:14

HelenMumsnet,

'Know I'm butting in but I think it's one of the few stats all schools have gathered about them. They're used for funding purposes: the fewer free school meals claimed = less money for the school budget. Ditto children with SN.'

But WHY is the information presented to the public in a comparative kinda way? At least, if they show how much money is given to a school for SN, they should publish how much is actually SPENT on SN. IME the school takes the money, ignores the child and buys a vegetable patch.

bialystockandbloom · 14/03/2013 19:14

Hmm voice of dissent here, sorry. I'm just not sure about having a whole section for 'chat', might it not decimate the board even more (wasn't there a long discussion not so long ago about the fact there are already too many sections?).

I can see the rationale for having a place to talk which doesn't last forever, and love the idea of a chat thread, but worry that a whole new board is going to confuse people. Also, esp bearing in mind the OP of this whole discussion, the last thing we'd want to do is possibly scare off new posters and piss off existing ones by yet more 'divisions'.

Perhaps I'm being unduly cautious but thought it just worth raising the question.

StarlightMcKenzie · 14/03/2013 19:15

I reckon people will just collect where they feel comfortable. The chat thread will get used, or it won't. We'll know soon enough.

bialystockandbloom · 14/03/2013 19:17

I know, that's kind of what I mean - can see that leading to more tumbleweed sections where people post but don't get answered, less and less traffic, then eventually upsets people because they feel like they have nowhere to go. It's happened here already hasn't it.

Moss you call it? Barnacles more like.

I have NO idea what's in fashion, what counts as popular music (noise sensitive DS means even the radio is usually banned).

Joined a dating site (evil intentions of popping out twins for the sole purpose of upsetting my LA) and then realised I have no babysitter, or way to obtain one.

The phrases "Billy no mates" & "Get a life love!" were invented specifically with me in mind. It's a joke trying to teach my child social skills when my own rusted quite some time ago.

DS has learnt his 6 and 8 times tables - he woke me up this morning at 6 am to be "tested" on them. Shame that's what the rest of the class were learning while he was being "taught" summat else (?) by the TA who ignores me even on a whole day class trip (but is able to suck up to other parents - oooh she can speak).

Feel free to ignore my random ranting. I won't mind if you say ODFOD

Gin
OP posts:
bialystockandbloom · 14/03/2013 20:20

Justa yes I see that point. I suppose my ideal scenario would be a permanent chat thread in the SN children section (which does, lets face it, get most of the traffic in SN as a whole), which would disappear after 30/60 days as suggested. But that's probably not possible technically? (MNHQ??) So if not, just not a whole different section. We might as well carry on using OTBT, no?

Difficult one. Just thought I'd raise the point

Gin (large measure) with proper full fat tonic?

Wine

A wild night out involving traffic cones & a kebab on the way home sounds like a distant dream. Mind you I'd settle for a nice sedate evening class in electronics at this point.

bialystockandbloom · 14/03/2013 20:41

But wouldn't a new section in SN be just the same as OTBT - you'd still have to make the effort of looking in it!

Maybe it's how people 'check in' to MN - eg I usually go for Threads I'm On, then from there just click on SN Children.

Though I suppose if there was a new section which I went to, that would come up under Threads I'm On too. Which negates my argument Grin

I dunno. Just trying to look at things from all angles to make sure we're doing the thing that includes as many as possible in the most practical way.

I didn't know you could bookmark sections! Nor that you could de-select sections from Active Convos! Can't believe this - have been on MN for 6 years Blush

bochead · 14/03/2013 20:48

I'm not going over to OTBT - shades of the school gate cliquey Mums I so depsise tbh.

Would use chat forum so long as it was called "The Goose & Carrot" in honor of the social life I'd like to occasionally have in RL (does anyone else miss the lazy pre-kids Sunday pub lunch from time to time?).

Full fat tonic, of course. Grin

Goose and Carrot would have virtual alcohol and also Brew and cake, GF CF as well as glutened up.
