Can we talk about MNSN, and the community/support/chat etc?

This thread may not be a good idea. I am severely sleep deprived (ds has decided yet again that sleep is for the weak, and I have had about 4 hours sleep since Sunday), and had the morning from hell getting dd2 off on a school trip - change of routine, needed ot wear tracksuit not uniform, different drop off/pick up - you all know the score. If you all think it is a bad idea, please feel free to report and have it deleted.

Anyway.

Can we have a thread where we try to sort out some of the perceived isues with MNSN?

I keep seeing, on the main boards, posts saying that MNSN is not suportive. That some faces don't fit. That it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Fine. I get that not everybody is the same, and may not want the same things form this board as me, or other posters. But it isn't really said here, and so we don't reallt get right of reply.

It's a bit like talking about us behind our backs.

I know there have ben disagreements and differences over the years. I have been part of some of them, but on the whole I thought we muddled through quite well - expcially given that we are all under a reasonable amount of stress most of the time, and that we all face fairly different challenges on a daily basis.

So - what do people want form MNSN? Is there anything we (as a community) can do to welcome people who feel left out? Anythign we can do to help posters who lurk rather than post?

I am rather hoping htis might be a moving forward discussion, rather than a re-hash of any he said/she said grievances. BUt as I said earlier, maybe this is entirely misguided. Sorry if it is.

'Is it true that Maoris find eye contact rude? Someone told me this years ago, but I've always wondered if they made it up.'

I've taught a lot of first generation children from the Indian sub-continent. It was definitely an issue for them.

Honestly, it makes my whinging about some teacher somewhere not writing a couple of words down look positively stupid.

No staff member at ds' school will shake him for not looking.

I'm going to forget food for a minute (still picking a hot cross bun out of my teeth, so it's easy) and chip in here with my usual wisdom. (Owning my old, here)

I've been on the Internet for years. 15 years, in fact. Back in the days when 56K was new and fast and using the internet tied up your phone line.

Needless to say, I've flitted between various internet communities, in my time. Some I've settled at for a number of years, one I've been on for almost the entire 15 years, though I don't visit so often.

One thing I have learnt is, that if I don't feel like my face fits, I don't stick around and tell everyone they're doing it wrong. I move on. I don't go back there. I don't have it bookmarked. I don't select it from the drop down in my address bar. I simply don't bother going there because life is just far too short to allow myself to be made miserable by it.

Hmm, feel a bit dissatisfied with the email explaining my deletion, which was for basically saying someone was being a bit unfair to someone else, and to ask where there have been examples of the en masse mnsn board bullying. It's not so much that i mind being deleted, it's more that I think i was being entirely fair, and if you can't ask a fair question without being deleted, then one might as well start typing 'fuck of you are being a cunt' which I see people do, because they clearly don't care about being deleted. It all seems a bit arse to me.

Anyhoo, very interesting about the eye contact thing, Justa, I have read that about Maoris as well, it may have been in The Bone People. Had a long conversation with ds's SALT about the possibility of ds being largely non verbal, and looking at different forms of communication, feel a bit flat about it all.
