School pressuring for ds to return to school - Star, Agnes and other helpful people

Ds hasnt been to school since emergency A&E mental health assessment a few weeks ago.

He was assessed by CAMHS in A&E, after threats of wanting to kill himself etc.

CAMHS told me to decide on a daily basis whether ds was able to cope with school and if school had concerns about him not attending then to phone her.

School receptionist phoned me yesterday and asked when ds would be going back to school. I told her i had already passed on CAMHS number to SENCO and if she had concerns then to phone and speak with CAMHS.

She said they had and CAMHS had said it was up to me to decide on a daily basis, and apparently CAMHS had also said that ds would be ok to attend some days.

She told me that ds was missing education and his absence was being marked as unauthorised and that the EWO would be informed. She asked that i phone everyday to tell them if ds would be attending.

So they expect that ds can go from needing me to go immediately to pick him up from school and take him for an emergency mental health assessment, to returning to school as if nothing has happened.

They expect me to phone the school receptionist daily, which i did this morning and its bloody ridiculous. Conversation goes "ds wont be in today" school receptionist "why is that" me "he wants to kill himself" school receptionist "oh ok, thanks for phoning"

I should also add either way, it isnt all doom and gloom, sorry if im making it sound that way. My words were intended as a be careful, keep yourself informed, know what you are up against kinda thing.

As long as you can get social worker 'on side', whether its EIT or child protection, he/she could be very powerful.

Dev, without the right input now, the council knows your ds is going to be expensive to care for in later life, once you pop your clogs. The reason they're happy to push you to the brink of suicide is that most parents either wouldn't go through with it, or would drown the child too. Though in fairness this is probably a subconscious motivation rather than general policy.

Far, far more effective to pull in at A&E en route to the river and get yourself an emergency psychiatric admission. Emergency respite then costs so much and is so hard to arrange that SS, LEA and health suddenly feel perhaps they could investigate joint funding a placement. And if you ever do find yourself near a body of water, a 999 call will bring a car full of sensible police, closely followed by some kind paramedics.

Those are very different services aren't they. I'm happy to be referred and obviously want to know the details surrounding that referral.

I have no concerns if they'll believe me or not - as I think it's obvious we want her in school with everything we've tried to put in place.

It was suggested to me as family support, rather than support purely for dd - as a family we aren't in crisis and have lots of emotional support and are very happy. Well apart from seeing dd like this!

You've found a great deal of info and thank you for that. I've tried looking and found very basic info.

Sweet, as a family we are very happy, there was no crisis, there is no severe relationship difficulties, i do not suffer with any anxiety or depression or any such like. CAMHS have commented in reports 'ds has a safe and caring relationship with his mother and family' CDC commented 'i was highly skilled in dealing with ds behaviour'

This did not stop school reporting me to child protection. Their grounds for reporting me to child protection, was that i am fabricating ds anxiety and self harm (despite having reports from CAMHS ranging over year and half, informing them of ds's anxiety, self harm and saying that he views school as a threatening environment) . He has been self harming for 2 and half years and they never felt the need to report me to child protection before.

So why would they do it now? its strange how their referral was made at exactly the same time as i applied for SA. They only ever have 'concerns' about my parenting when i apply for SA. I found a note on school file, where LA had phoned SENCO and they agreed to report me to child protection.

My point being, you or your family do not have to meet the criteria, for school to report you to child protection. Its a tactic for taking the spotlight off of school and LA.

Although i will say school DO NOT decide if its a child protection issue, SS do, so they can report away and hopefully SW will tell them to sod off.

It became a child protection issue for us, as ds told the SW he wanted to kill himself and she had no choice.

Claw. Thank you so much. You are not droning on but are telling me some very vital information that I need to prepare for. Lets face it, it's not details I'm going to get off school or lea is it.

It's been more than helpful to get experiences rather than what they want me to know. It's much appreciated :)
