NEW Tinsley house support thread -part 2!!

Badvoc · 21/09/2012 20:05

Hello everyone!
Thought I should start a new thread as we were nearing 1000 posts! :)
Indigo is no longer posting as you all know, but I think it would be such a shame for the support thread to go too.
I know I find reading about all the ups and downs we all experience very helpful and it's so great to hear all the progress :)
So.
We go back to TH next month and can't wait. So interested to see of the tracking programme has worked. I think ds1s reading speed has improved and he is now reading proper chapter books!
He continues to show less anxiety, OCD behaviour and stress.
He is eating better and is generally a much happier chap.
Looking forward to hearing from you all over the next few weeks/months...X

DS came home from scouts last night feeling really sad for another scout (ie showing 100% empathy).

This is the first time in his life hes been sad for someone else.

He's most upset that he's developed empathy - he says he doesn't like feeling all these emotions :)

The TH exercises he is doing at the moment are for the prefrontal cortex. The bit that controls social skills and empathy.

WorrierPrincess · 15/12/2012 21:06

Ruggles, i'm so sorry you are concerned about your dd but as everyone has said, you couldn't be better placed to get help, and at such an early age too. You asked about my ds, he's 3.9 and started TH back in march time. First of all he just did spinning chair plus supplements, diet tweaks etc and I thought there was no way he'd be able to stairs EVER (he's very uncoordinated). But he now does stairs with eyes shut, plus two of the computer programmes - hemistim and right hemi p (?). Anyway, one is done while searching for numbers, one done while searching for words while listening to music. Ds is quite advanced with recognising words which helps. Luckily he does really like "Robin's game" - he's full of cold today but still insisted he wasn't going to bed til he'd done it! So it just shows that you can do bits of the programme even when dcs are very young, even when you're not sure quite how compliant they're going to be.

I think doing it as a family project sounds a great idea. My dd (2.5) is, I think, a bit put out that she doesn't get as much attention when we go to see Robin because she is in awe of him! (Thankfully we don't have developmental concerns about her but I still think she benefits from the diet changes we've made etc)

Badvoc: my head is spinning just thinking about those numbers!

Shopping: sounds like there are so many positive changes AND your ds is now in a school where people appreciate them. What a difference that must make to you.

Indigo: That is just the sort of news I dream of for ds. How much longer on the programme do you think you have to go?

Beautifulpossum · 15/12/2012 23:36

Ruggles- sorry forgot to post address. All products purchased from Nutri-Link Ltd in Devon. Easy to find on-line. The Lipid powder is really expensive but I really recommend it. My DS has not complained about tummy ache for weeks now. This is totally new- he always had tummy ache, and he is eating so well, looking pink and the dark rings around his eyes have gone. This product really helps to eliminate the problems caused by gluten and dairy. Really pleased you are doing the diet, supps and spinning your DD- I'm sure that will really help her.

Started Autoslide yesterday with DS and already has 2 stars. So delighted ( and relieved) only 3 more to go before we start the dreaded Jump Duction!

So pleased for you Indigo and your 3 DC. You have been an inspiration for all of us and just so delighted that you have had the success you have worked so hard to achieve.

Beautifulpossum · 16/12/2012 14:42

Princess- Wonderful to hear about your DS at his christmas play.Smile

shoppingbagsundereyes · 17/12/2012 16:53

We've just had our Skype appointment ( so much easier than an 8 hour round trip). Ds starts hemi P and hemi T tomorrow :)
Can't wait as it seems like the programmes will make a big difference to his concentration which has already improved massively but can still be a problem at times. Really looking forward to getting started although I think he may not be keen on ear phones in his ear.

Badvocsanta · 17/12/2012 17:27

Well, had the weekend from hell here....
Mum rushed to hospital in Friday, then ds2 got sent in yesterday from chest x ray :(
Clear but he is so poorly. Temps, awful awful cough and saying his legs hurt poor baby. Query whooping cough :( I am almost hallucinating through lack of sleep!....
So...ds2 won't be back at pre school this week so I won't get to see him in his first nativity :( am stupidly heartbroken about it :(
Hoping we can all either not get it or get it and recover by Xmas!
I agree shopping...Skype appts are much easier! :)
Tom is doing hemI opk now and hates it! So I know he needs it :)
So...if I am not back and posting before Xmas, I wish you and your families a wonderful Xmas and an sn/sen free new year! Xxxx

Badvocsanta · 17/12/2012 17:28

Ps...shopping...we got the single ear pieces rather than headphones for Tom. Seemed to work fine.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 17/12/2012 18:05

Poor you Badvoc. Hope your mum and ds2 make a speedy recovery. Fingers crossed for a wonderful Christmas for you all

Badvoc- sorry to hear about your mum and DS2 Sad Hope things improve on all fronts as the week goes on.

Ruggles- I know what you mean about going " weirdy" Exactly the same thing happened to me when DS had complete meltdown in the summer. Only now beginning to feel that I am reentering the real world!

Onion- Hello and welcome to the thread. Looking forward to hearing how your DD progresses through the TH programme.

Shopping- Your DS is doing so well. Have you finished the tracking now? and are you still doing stairs and teeth?

DS was going great guns with VT ( stars every day) but so tired this week that we have slipped back. DD doing the new VT ( target practice) and seems to enjoy it. Smile

shoppingbagsundereyes · 18/12/2012 15:52

Yes tracking done. We can stop stairs and teeth when we feel ds is 'perfect' at them. Will continue a little longer I think.

Ruggles · 19/12/2012 07:34

Thanks for all your encouragement about DD ? really hope I didn?t upset anyone by moaning about a second child with DD. Xmas Blush I know some of you have three?. It just felt like such a shock and blow. After a few days I ?m feeling much more accepting and happier about it. I am so lucky to have found this thread ? it makes me feel miles better and the TH approach is def working for DS1.

I don?t understand all of the references to exercises that are yet to come, but they sound intriguing and I love reading about the progress you are all making!

Badvocsanta ? I?m so sorry to read about your weekend. Sad Sad I hope your Mum is ok and that your DS is on the mend too. Really tough having them both ill at once. Know what you mean about if we're going to get-it-now-and-recover-before-Christmas? Big hugs to you all. Wishing you all a very happy and healthy Christmas! Xmas Smile

Beautiful Possum ? great news about your DD. Thanks for the Nutri-link info ? we?re going to do all of the leaky gut support and see how we get on. DS has tummy ache most days, so I?m fingers crossed that this will help Thanks

Shoppingbags ? what a brilliant school report, esp PE. Glad you had a good appointment with Robin and that concentration is next on the list!

Indigo ? so sorry to read that you?re off the boards again. Sad I hope you are reading this. Smile Your DD did so well in her test! I wonder if the new approach helped? Lovely news about the empathy too.

Worrier ? thanks for the reassurance and info on your DS. He sounds truly brilliant.. Xmas Smile

Onion ? hello and welcome. It sounds like your DD is making some great progress

Hi Daft - how are you doing?

Came across an article on Kris Carr in the Sunday papers, so is a cancer thriver who advocates diet as a means of improving your life experience etc. kriscarr.com Interesting for us, she has a web chat tonight with Ken Bock who specialises in children with ASD and ADD/ADHD and he's going to talk about G/F and supplements. You need to buy the book, which I've done and will report back to you!

Ruggles · 20/12/2012 06:51

I'm really sad about everything that kicked off on MN yesterday about Indigo, TH and the stuff we are doing.

Indigo I know that lots and lots of posters will really miss you if you stay away, plus who knows how many lurkers who hang out too. Sad Sad I will really miss you as I find your knowledge, enthusiasm and general gusty-ness for life heartening and infectious too.

Badvocsanta - thank you for being such an articulate and vocal advocate for TH and everything else. I totally echo your thoughts and like you I need/needed someone to take my hand and hold it. We're all big enough to make our own choices and I have never felt that you are passive aggressive or anything else - in fact, the opposite. Kind, thoughtful and generous with your time.

Please can we all sort this out? If we can't, can we find another way of supporting each other? Hope so, because it helps my DCs and it helps me! Thanks

Badvocsanta · 20/12/2012 08:10

Hi ruggles.
It's still going on sadly :(
I need to disengage I think.
A few months ago things got really unpleasant and indigo and I were called, variously..."deluded" "gullible" and that we were in a "cult"
We never recieved any apology.
MNSN is a odd beast IMHO...there are one or two posters whose woRd see,a to be law and who sadly report indigo now as a matter of course, no matter what she is actually posting.
I still don't quite understand why she was banned but I think she is better off MN for a while tbh.
As for me being passive aggressive....that's a new one! :)
These issues cause much distress and feelings run high...that doesn't excuse sick starting that other stupid thread...that was just a vile thing to do, but I can sort if see why she did it.
We annoy the HELL out of lots of people :)
It's ok.
We have this thread.
And each other.
Hugs to all xxxxx
(Btw Tom was mathematician if the week again last week and is singing in the choir this afternoon at church :) :))

Badvocsanta · 20/12/2012 08:23

Bdaonion...a belated welcome to the thread! :)
Sorry...a lot been going in this week at casa badvoc!
Ds2 seems a bit better (fingers crossed) mum is much the same.
I am still tired :)

DaftMaul · 20/12/2012 10:51

I seem to have missed something?! Has Indigo gone again? Sad

Still a 'house of illness' here - Dh in bed with our flu now. The rest of us (hopefully) are on the mend, slowly.

Not a lot of tracking/HemiStim going on because we have been so poorly.

Great to hear everyone doing so well.

Badvoc, hole your mum and ds recover quickly.

Badvocsanta · 20/12/2012 11:45

Sorry to hear that daft.
It's been like a plague house here for the last few weeks :(
Mum is home and fleeing better thank you.
Indigo had left.
I think she needed to.
She has a busy year next year and wants to concentrate on her work with dyslexia.
She is of course still contactable via e mail and phone.
I can pass on her details for those that want them x

DaftMaul · 20/12/2012 13:27

Great to hear that your mum is home, Badvoc, fantastic news!

Indigo and I are hoping to meet up in the new year (we live quite close to each other), so I am looking forward to that.

Off to see ds' Neurologist this evening. Fingers crossed she feels all is back on track.

I wonder if the time has come to start a FB group that could run alongside this thread?

Badvocsanta · 20/12/2012 15:31

I am nit on FB daft but I sont see why not?
It would be lovely for us all to get together in the summer at some equidistant point...a TH picnic perhaps?
:)
It's odd to view someone as a friend who you have never met isnt it? :)
Fingers crossed for Dds appt x

Sally200 · 21/12/2012 10:09

I wonder if someone could give me some advice on Tinsley House? I have been looking on this board for some time and seen threads on TH but have not really read them - until today.
My ds, aged 5, has autistic traits and sensory issues. He has 22 hours a week statement. He was a slow talker, finds it difficult to communicate and socialise, takes everything literally, is quite hard work, everything has to be on his terms, finds it very difficult to fall to sleep on a night, still in nappies on a night time, very picky eater etc.
Is TH, and the help provided there, relevant to my ds?
As ds's mum I am forever looking for something which may help - and wondered whether this may be it?
Any advice would be greatfully receieved.
Sally

Badvocsanta · 21/12/2012 11:35

Hello Sally.
Welcome to the TH thread.
I would always counsel anyone who is considering doing the TH programme to phone robin and have a chat to him.
It's what I did and what most of us in this thread have done.
Please don't worry - robin is lovely and very easy to talk to.
He will let you know whether he feels TH could help your ds.
What I can tell you is that the earlier you start the better - as with any intervention - so you are doing exactly the right thing looking for help for your ds now.
Is he a carb junkie by any chance?
Does he eat very little fruit/veg/protein?
Does he have bowel or stomach issues?
I know that most if us all of the above are true.
If you want to check out the theory on which the programme is based then you can check it our in "is that my child?" And "the brain food plan" by robin pauc available on amazon for about £4.
I wish you all the best x

Beautifulpossum · 21/12/2012 21:33

Hi Sally and welcome. My suggestion would be to give Robin a call. From what you have described your DS shows symptoms of DDS. All of us who post here have children with DDS and he is helping all of our children. As Badvoc says, Robin is a lovely man, is brilliant with children and is a father of 4 himself. I am certain he will be able to help your DS.

DaftMaul · 24/12/2012 09:48

Happy christmas one and all!

We are just packing up ready to head down to the New Forest, hoping we can get through the floods! That Porsche that got submerged in a flood last week is at the bottom of my sister's track!

I suspect the next few days will be somewhat sugar-filled Xmas Blush

shoppingbagsundereyes · 24/12/2012 16:25

Best of luck Daftmaul and Merry Christmas everyone :)

Ruggles · 24/12/2012 22:12

Hello, Happy Christmas everyone!

Badvocasta - so sorry to read about all the hassle. Please don't disengage from us! I'm not very good at FB, but happy to move if its easier for us all.

Daft - let's hope we don't see you on the tv... I got stuck in flood water on Thurs, with dcs... Total pain, had to be towed, but tow lorry wouldn't take children. Caught between two sets of flood water and had to beg a lift from a friend with an agri vehicle. Felt a right prat. 51 litres of water vac'd out of the car and had my new boots on... Xmas Blush Xmas Blush

Beautiful possum, Shoppingbags, Indigo, Worrier and all the other regular faces - thanks for all the lovely chat and support. It has been fab getting to know you all a bit over the last few months. Let's hope we all make the progress we want to in 2013.

Onion and Sally - welcome to the thread.

xx
