I see from another member that Indigo Bell has been banned from MN. I would just like to say that it was her advice that led me to look into help for my DD. Without that I truly believe she would not have made the advances she has.

Indigo's views mat not have been proven scientifically, but she certainly helped open many people's eyes to alternative ways of helping their children. People could choose to listen or ignore as they wished. She always took time to help people who were stuck and frustrated. I miss her and MN is a poorer place without her.

AT the top of this page Our SN area is not a substitute for expert advice. While many Mumsnetters have a specialist knowledge of special needs, if they post here they are posting as members, not experts.
So I propose that MN reconsiders. Please.

Ds started off with a diagnosis of "social communication disorder with autistic traits" then at 2nd opinion time it was changed to autistic spectrum disorder. It was a nightmare trying to get anyone to recognise he had any SN's at all with that "label".

Honestly imho having had to do the whole statement/ss/tribubal merrygoround armed only with the label of "social communication disorder" - I concluded it may as well be "chocolate teapot itis" for all the recognition it recieves from profesionals in terms of accessing any kind of help. Autism/ASD should mean you at least meet criteria to access educational services.

I honestly pity the swathe of kids who are gonna get this new SCD label as all it will do is tell parents "hey here's a serious with you with your child but fook off cos noone cares - PRU to your left!" unless some serious campaigning gets underway to raise awareness sharpish.

'But it seems to me that anyone who decides not to go down that route - like me and indigo - are treated appallingly.'

'As for everyone else....well...do what everyone else does....apply for SA'

Bad, I chose the SA misery route and believe in it, despite my experiences. I have never treated anyone who chose not to appallingly. I believe in research and evidence-based practice but have never implied there is no benefit of anything else. I found it difficult to agree with a lot of Indigo's posts but had no personal issue with her and found some of posts interesting and they sometimes gave me a different perspective.

I don't think the way MNHQ appeared to have dealt with it was all that great and took a week off to consider it. I still think it was handled badly but it isn't my site and I believe, on the wh
