Never in my life have I become involved in trying to raise awareness about special needs. 2 days ago I posted a thread asking my lovely Mums to sign a petition calling for educators to be given special needs training. That was all I wasn't calling for them to sacked or anything just a little bit if training.
Sadly my post was reported not sure why I was not notified I message HQ asking why and was told someone reported it as spam???? But I could post again without the link to the petition. This has made me feel a bit sad about this site.

Confused

Probably an LA bod.

I'm really sorry that someone thought that your petition was spam. I thought it was a lovely idea to spread the word about the problems with SN education that are faced in a small part of the UK that is often forgotten (NI). It's a shame that it wasn't allowed to stay and that someone felt that it wasn't appropriate :(

HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 08:57

You could be right Wink I am now viewing everyone in a suspicious light are you sure it wasn't you Star Grin

There are a lot more lurkers than posters and we already know that some of them are not on OUR side.

HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 09:00

Thanks Ben lovely if you to say so was just trying to do my very small bit to help. The charity that started it only have 670 signatures after a year!!!!!!! I managed to get 25 of those in 24 hours before we were shut down.
But are you sure it wasn't you Ben??? Shines big light in your face!!Grin

StarlightMaJesty · 02/06/2012 09:01

I doubt it was anyone that you KNOW!

HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 09:04

Come on out lurkers show yourselvesAngry who would a petition like that offend? Good for teachers they would get more than a 2 hour training session. Good for parents with SN kids and good for parents without whose children's learning may be disrupted by inappropriate handling of a SN child. I am confused!

It's because I'm Irish isn't it Grin

Funny. MNHQ claim that they look at each thread reported to decide for themselves.

That's what they have been claiming. Even started a thread outlining all of this, that they'll look at things in context etc etc

And now we find that they pressed the delete button because someone said the word 'spam', when had they actually read the post, they would have clearly seen it was not spam.

Hmm

pm me a link to the petition. I'll sign it.

Talk about the reason for the petition here too. Explain what it's about. Then if you do link to it later, whoever had the agenda in wanting it gone won't be able to claim it's spam

HecateTrivia · 02/06/2012 09:07

You know, perhaps there is a legitimate call for a Petitions topic. People can freely link to the things that matter to them, and those who object to them being elsewhere can just report them and they'll be moved.

HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 09:07

Thanks Hecate I will do just that once I have sorted little Miss ADHD out this morning Grin

That is terrible!

Shall I report your post and ask why MNHQ deleted it, and whether it could be re instated?

....but then they might delete this thread, and I would be responsible

HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 09:10

A-ha so it was you Hazey!!! Now trying to get this thread deleted to are yaGrinGrin

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 02/06/2012 09:12

we've had other threads for petitions that have been left to stand Confused seems daft! I can understand them deleting the ones asking for you to vote for certain things but this wasn't anything like that.

frankly I can't believe how little trainee teachers do on SEN. They've cut a year of the time it takes to qualify and it looks like they've cut most SEN stuff out as part of that.

HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 09:17

My Dd's teacher who is also the VP got a 30 minute training session on autism and a booklet to readSad

robotcornysilk · 02/06/2012 09:47

I'm sure I've already signed that petition from another board - can't think why anyone would disagree Hmm

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 02/06/2012 09:50

maybe it was him who complained Grin

robotcornysilk · 02/06/2012 09:54

probably!

Iceflower · 02/06/2012 09:57

Shock, why would anyone report it as spam? It wasn't me!

I've already signed your petition Smile

HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 09:59

Well I have emailed HQ and asked them to reconsider and repost the thread I said it would mean a lot to us regular posters and show they listen to us. So this could be interesting. Also if they delete one petition they need to delete them all really they can't be seen to pick and chose which petitions they favour?

OP posts:
HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 10:00

Thanks Iceflower. I know it has made me Sad and a wee bitAngry

OP posts:
HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 10:07

It has made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that raising awareness of ADHD is the equivalent of linking you all to a dodgy site selling timeshares!!!!

OP posts:
Jas · 02/06/2012 10:10

Just marking my place, so that when it is reposted, I can sign the petition...

HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 10:12

Thanks Jas maybe this will turn out to be a good thing after all and everyone will sign the bloody thing Grin

OP posts:
starfish71 · 02/06/2012 10:23

Why would anyone report it?! More awareness and training the better! Especially someone reporting it on this board!

HolyCalamityJane · 02/06/2012 10:43

I don't really understand it myself maybe the reporter thought ADHD wasn't a worthy enough condition to have a petition about. The official Mumsnet stance is that they do not encourage individual petitions as some Mums regard them as spam so if one person reports it as such which some-one did then they will delete it. Let's hope they don't have anything against the plight of services to deaf childrenAngry

My question is if only one person reports it should it be immediately deleted if so many others are in support? I have seen some shocking SN bashing threads on AIBU that do not get deleted as they like to encourage open discussion Sad
