well..... an emotional week at chez sign, the last ever portage visit, , both portage teacher and i were sniffing, handed over ds crafted pressies. Ds has done brill work with emotional skills stuff, (thank you for letting me have a proud mummy moment post)

my students are coming to end of their placements, so it all hots up now for the next month or so,

and we had 'leaver's ceremony' at pre -school today, with that mix of 'how far he has come' and 'how different he is from the other leavers'. . IYSWIM.

Iv'e been revelling in his progress recently, managing to ignore that he is so far behind different from the others going up to big school. and it was so noticable today... oh well, am now firmly removing my eyes from comparisons with other kids and saying 'yay ds, you are doing so well!'

Well, an interesting week here.

We are finally going through core assessment.

The Housing OT came to assess our situation, and has said that not only is our housing unsuitable, but that we need a property with adaptations, and she is writing a report recommending rebanding.

DD1 is moving up a class but has taken it all very much in her stride!

Tiring. The school play from hell - dull, overlong and in boiling hot hall. And DS started chewing his costume on stage . He claims to have enjoyed it but looked rather startled during most of the songs . May be a v bad mother and try and encourage another after school activity next year.

also quite sad at playground this week, child DS was playing so nicely with from his school was either 2 or 3 years young.

signandsmile - sounds like a busy week for you. I think avoiding comparisons to other children is good whether your child is SN or NT, to be honest. I was just talking with a friend about this today. All across the board there will be differences that we as parents will obsess over, regardless of SNs or not. Sometimes I think you just have to enjoy your own personal triumphs and just ignore the rest.

We've had a chaotic and very stressful week, but today was an absolutely wonderful day, which makes up for all of it. A friend stopped over for tea this morning, we took our little ones to a play place, then lunch, then a bit more tea before school run. DS2 had a lovely day at the school's "seaside at school" day. They set up paddling pools and games and a sand area and Punch&Judy show, plus fish and chips in cones for lunch, and ice creams. They wore summer clothing and had their swimming costumes with them. We were worried as we thought it might be a bit "sensory overload", but his TA was with him all day and prepared him for everything carefully and made sure he had little breaks, and he had a lovely day and enjoyed it all - he even ate a little ice cream, which he's never eaten before (we've tried before, but he always refused it). He came home exhausted but so happy and chattering about things he'd done today. It made me a bit teary, as it was so cute.

Tomorrow we're going to pick up our new puppy, so the kids are very excited about that as well!

And I might add, this is literally the FIRST completely good day we've had in AGES. DH & I were discussing that this afternoon - how sad is that? That we've been so stressed and depressed and upset, and today was lovely. Makes me feel a bit hopeful that there are more good days to come. A little sunshine through the clouds, so to speak.

Hi Sign - Have some virtual tissues and hug. Sounds like a very emotional week. Well done to ds on crafted pressies and good emotional skills stuff. Know what you mean about comparisons to other kids, and you're right marking his own progress. I reckon our dc's milestones mean so much more than nt ones and I have nt dd as well as dx as ds.

Our week's been pretty good. Dcs broke up from school for summer 3 weeks ago. Ds playing better with neighbours kids. He and dd behaving well together. Weather pretty good. Ds has made friends with family who have an inflatable bouncy castle city in local park and he and dd now get on free. They've been absolutely great as ds used to have phobia of bouncy castles. They let him get used to them at his own pace. He's still anxious about ones he hasn't seen, but much much better .

I've managed to juggle a bit of work and spending time with kids - feeling like a good Mum, particularly as I've managed to stay calm even when they haven't. Have even coped with dd having one or 2 friends to play - we have a small house and DH and I work from home. Also got comfortably back into size 14 jeans .

Only down spot was I has 2nd root canal treatment at dentist yesterday. Very ouch - infection not gone and I'm on more antibiotics and another antibiotic dressing in tooth. Feeling lousy this am, but DH very caring, had long lie in bed and another rest this afternoon and feeling a bit better.

Total Chaos - but look on the positive side - he was playing nicely! Regardless that it was with a younger child. It still is good.

Lougle - that's good, right? So they'll hopefully get you into housing that's more appropriate quicker?

Oh, and we found out that not only is DS2's reception teacher going to be job-sharing in his year one class (so same teacher part of the time - a teacher he loves!), but he is keeping the same 2 TA's job sharing. So his transition from reception to year one should be pretty smooth. They've already taken him to his new classroom and have almost completed his transition picture book for him to keep at home over summer holidays.

creatovator - ouch at root canal!! DH had one recently, it was not fun according to him! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Triggles - that's good news that your DS has continuity going into next year :)

Lougle - hope they sort out satisfactory housing for your soon. will you be looking at adapting your existing house or moving somewhere bigger?

Creatavator - I'm wincing in sympathy, root canals are reputed to be pretty grim even by dental work standards. hope it gets resolved soon.

TotalChaos - Got another appointment for first week in August unfortunately. It would have been sooner but we're away. Tooth feeling a bit better now though. Dentist felt really bad that it was hurting me.

That's good news from everyone so far, even glossing over teeth and clothes chewing!

This house isn't suitable for adaptation, due to it's size and location, so it will be a move.

Creatovator - can't get past the root canal bit - you poor soul. I can cope with pretty much anything, but teeth stories/problems. Total and utter sympathy coming your way.

At the house of Evil - so much going on i'm spinning at the moment. Probable dx for DS3's swallowing issues, Also had words with a paediatrician that i have not got on with for ages. I grew a pair and it felt good!
Must away now as the outlaws are here for the weekend and have phoned to say that they are now off the M25 and heading this way!

I am off for tonights Dr Who episode so will be popping in and out...

Weelll our County uses the 'homechoice' system, where all applicants are banded, and then houses are advertised on a central website.

At the moment, we are band 3, which means that any house we are eligible for in the entire County has around 130 applicants ahead of us

The system is designed so that you put in a 'bid of interest' on a house that is advertised, then the applications are ordered first by band, then by application date.

Our application is a Feb/11 Band 3. If we get rebanded, we will turn into a July/11 Band 2.

So we will lose 5 months in terms of date priority, but gain a whole band in terms of band priority. That means that we would bypass all band 3 applicants for a house, and we would get it if we were the only band 2 applying. After a while, ofc, we would have a greater chance, because our priority date would be before others.

We have said we won't consider being away from Mum & Dad, they are our main support. Fortunately, the OT could see that.

She has also said that if we get nowhere on band 2, she will look at Direct Access, whereby we are taken off the list altogether, and they look at properties before they go on the list to see if they are suitable.

Total, can sympathise with hot, boring play. Never enough parts to go around at DS's school, always the same children, etc.

Sports day for DS2 and DS3 today, already posted on the 'cheating outrageously and being allowed to get away with it' theme. DS3 got a mention for effort. (trying hard but no natural talent!)

DS2 is getting really cheesed off with school, he's really ready to leave. This last term has dragged and he's not being very cooperative. Only one week to go!

auntevil - thanks for sympathy and beverage. I'll have a brew. Can't do alcohol on tablets, but all helps with getting trim . Sounds like a positive if busy week for you.

Ds1 is at his y6 leavers party, he wasn't sure he wanted to go but he seemed quite happy to go in the end. Dd3 has a visit to her new ss next week and they are going to her current school, can't wait for the feedback on that one! We also have sports day and school play from hell as well as a few other things, will definitely take all offers of gin next week

aunt, good on you, about time someone put her straight on a few things, hope that means she's sorted something out for ds3?

I have good news! I had absolutely lovely parent teacher's interviews for all 3 kids. - And for the first time ever I actually believed all 3 teachers

I looked at their books. And for the first time ever I could read what DD had written. I am over the moon. I am just so happy. I never thought we'd get here.

On a funny note, DS2 told me he was best friends with a girl in his class who is blind and was going to marry her etc.
