well..... an emotional week at chez sign, the last ever portage visit, Sad, both portage teacher and i were sniffing, Hmm handed over ds crafted pressies.Grin Wink Ds has done brill work with emotional skills stuff, (thank you for letting me have a proud mummy moment post)

my students are coming to end of their placements, so it all hots up now for the next month or so,

and we had 'leaver's ceremony' at pre -school today, with that mix of 'how far he has come' Grin and 'how different he is from the other leavers'. Sad. IYSWIM.

Iv'e been revelling in his progress recently, managing to ignore that he is so far behind different from the others going up to big school. Sad and it was so noticable today... oh well, am now firmly removing my eyes from comparisons with other kids and saying 'yay ds, you are doing so well!'

how have all your weeks been?

no, stillllllllllll waiting Grin I have a feeling when dd3 gets her book from her new school next week we will be in the same boat, she had one last year and I was so pleased when they asked for it back for another child in october as we were still having to go through it Hmm

insanityscatching · 15/07/2011 20:45

This is my new name for now as I suspect ds has got my previous username. Few clues just in case ds and dd asd, tribunal, judicial review etc.
A quiet week here, solicitor is especially quiet but that's nothing new, ds is chilled, dd is chatty.
Looking forward to when dd breaks up from school although don't have many plans apart from a week at the coast.
Is the looking forward to the holidays exclusive to SEN parents do you think? When I had 3 NT kids I used to dread them Wink

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/07/2011 20:58

Hi Insanity. Like the new name! Not quite as easy to type! No, I used to dread the holidays too, until I got a job as a TA!

Hey, Ninja. Leavers party won out on the climbing, then. All the more gin for me!

Indigo, that's lovely. Better than the reports, then?

signandsmile · 15/07/2011 21:01

[smug] ds's book has lots of photo's of him taken when he was in for visits, (big cheesy grins and luminous ear defenders) lots of discussion of the toilets... Hmm and the doors... (portage made it, and she knows him well Grin)

I've got lots of school photos of DS2 from when he was little, sign, learning journeys and the like. Lovely things to keep and look back on. My DS never tells me about his day so home/school books and photos are necessary as an insight but also great keepsakes.

BialystockandBloom · 15/07/2011 21:24

Hello, first time I've posted on one of these Friday night threads. Smile Will make a nice change to chat, as opposed to my usual posts asking for help with statementing!

We've had a great week - had a tour round ds' school (starting Reception in September) after finally confirming which school he's going to, met his lovely class teacher, and confirmed that ABA tutors will be going in to support him. Statement finalised, so now know our next step to appeal.

And ds did his nursery dance show, which was hilarious brilliant in a sort of Toy Story meets Cabaret way. Hats off to the dance teacher for getting a bunch of 4yo boys in black tights, with canes, doing high kicks and jazz hands Grin And ds gave it his all and was great.

signandsmile it's a poignant time isn't it - going to big school, rite of passage etc. But so different for us.

indigo ds2 Grin

Hi Bialy - Sounds like a great week. Wells done to your ds for taking part so well.

creatovator · 15/07/2011 21:31

Night Sign. Have a good sleep.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/07/2011 21:31

Hi Bialy. Have some gin. Sounds like you've got it all under control at the moment. Still a bit of statement stuff to get right? Dance sounds very, um, ambitious?

It's a bit quiet here tonight. I think everyone's tired and ready for their holidays.

BialystockandBloom · 15/07/2011 21:48

Thanks for the gin

Yes the final statement is rubbish - vague unspecified stuff eg "ds would benefit from opportunities to learn targeted sets of vocabulary as modelled by the adults" Confused

So, appeal here we come.

The dance was truly awesome, honestly! All taken so seriously, with highly audible instructions throughout from the dance teacher: "come on girls, first position, plie, plie, come on Trixie, point those toes, heads up, Daniel smile etc etc.... She even made them start the whole thing again after a bit of a stumble from the lead girl in the opening number Shock

They paid in blood, sweat and tears Grin

Our kids make their own choices. We can only guide them.

TheTimeTravellersWife · 15/07/2011 22:04

Very Good week. DD had a cracking school report. Can now read some CVC words and write her own name! Fabulous progress. Is starting to play with other children more too.
Still on P-levels, but I am so proud of the progress that she has made, from her own baseline. She is 8, in mainstream with support, ASD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, speech and language, "spiky" IQ profile.

creatovator · 15/07/2011 22:06

Hi all, didnt join friday night chat last week because we were camping for a long weekend.

More good news about Dd3's school [I still find it wierd saying that]. Last week Dd3 said to me that she hates sports day because its always teams and she is rubbish at sports and lets the team downSad. It is the first time she has been able to tell me something like that.

I popped into the office on Monday and mentioned that she was worried about sports. When Dd3 came home she was really happy and said she didn't have to do sports, she was going to help with the sports for the children in wheelchairs who were having thier sports seperatly due to an issue with the lift up to the field.

She had a wonderful time and joined in with a volley ball game and javelin throwing. I still can't quite believe how people are bending over backwards to help her to be happySmile.

I did buy all the staff a pressie for the staffroom to thank them for their support.

To anyone who is thinking of leaving a rubbish unsupportive school, go for it, there are good inclusive schools out thereSmile.
