Star - sorry to hear your news. My father passed away a week ago today, and I'm still trying to come to terms with it, compounded by not being able to get to the states for his funeral this week. I hope you're getting through alright, it's certainly a struggle here.

EllenJane1 · 01/04/2011 17:20

Brew would be lovely Sparkle.

Hi Triggles. Are you an ex pat over here? Really hard to be so far away from your mum. I hope she's got others to support her. Your DH has been good, hasn't he? Really do PM me if you need some local moral support. Glos mum, too. (((hugs)))

SparkleRainbow · 01/04/2011 17:53

Brew for ellen, sparkle offers Biscuit too.

EllenJane1 · 01/04/2011 18:06

I love Jammy Dodgers, too.

SparkleRainbow · 01/04/2011 18:08

Our biscuit barrel wouldn't be complete without jammy dodgers, and dd1 would put herself up for adoption if I didn't stock up regularly Grin actually I am not joking about that!

moosemama · 01/04/2011 18:12

I would really appreciate a Brew, haven't managed to get one all day and I waved my pfb off on his outward bound weekend at lunchtime.

In his absence, I have made a big fat gluten filled chocolate cake with strawberry jam in the middle and chocolate buttercream and chocolate stars on top if anyone wants some?

You have been in my thoughts Starlight and Triggles. I won't say much, as I know words can never be enough at these times, but hope its at least a small comfort that others are thinking of you and sending you strength.

EllenJane1 · 01/04/2011 18:14

But not broken ones I bet. Weren't we talking about academies? I get so confused!

SparkleRainbow · 01/04/2011 18:14

sparkle hands moosemama a Brew. Lovely post by the way.

EllenJane1 · 01/04/2011 18:15

This is getting a bit spoooooky, moosemama!

SparkleRainbow · 01/04/2011 18:15

We were talking about academies, I am heading over there to answer you now. Grin

No broken Jammy dodgers here......the biscuit fairy gets all of those Blush

EllenJane1 · 01/04/2011 18:17

Your lovely DS won't just survive the weekend, he'll have the best time ever and will even tell you so, I guarantee it. Grin

someoneoutthere · 01/04/2011 18:23

So sorry to hear about your loss starlight. I don't tend to post on Friday night threads as I don't feel brave enough, but just wanted to say something. My father passed away 12 years ago before the DC's, I still talk to him when I feel down and really think that he is looking out for me.

EllenJane1 · 01/04/2011 18:26

Someone, I talk to my dad's photo and blow it kisses. Glad it's not only me.

moosemama · 01/04/2011 18:30

Ellen Grin

Thanks, I know he'll be having a wail of a time really, but its soooo quiet around here this evening!

SparkleRainbow · 01/04/2011 18:33

I talk to my dad all the time too. I just know what he would think about certain things. Neither of you is alone in this. Smile

Triggles · 01/04/2011 18:44

Hmmm... no jammy dodgers here (broken or otherwise), but lovely DD did stop by today with some Krispy Kreme chocolate doughnuts for me. Grin It was a lovely bit of comfort food (sooooo not good for me!) and yet still reminded me of my dad because he always sent some chocolate doughnuts back with me when I visited at weekends when I was at University as they were my favourite (a good reminder though).

EllenJane1 - yes, I'm an expat - have been here over 6 years, but I have 3 sisters in the states still, and 2 of them stayed with my mother the whole week my dad was in ICU and through the funeral, and my oldest sister is still staying with her for a few weeks to help her sort out the paperwork and to just be there for her. I dread to think of what my phone bill is going to be this month though! We're hoping to convince my mother to come stay with us for a few weeks to a month, just to enjoy some time with grandkids, do a little sightseeing, and have a complete break from everything.

moosemama - it's oddly quiet when the kids are out of the house, isn't it? DS2 has been in reception since September and I STILL am not used to it. Blush

SparkleRainbow · 01/04/2011 18:48

Ds has gone to Beavers with dh, and I can't get used to that, how sad am I. I should be making the most of the time he is safely engaged elsewhere, well may be I am I am posting on here Grin

signandsmile · 01/04/2011 18:56

hi all, thinking of star and triggles, (and the others who have had crappy weeks.) I would raise a Brew to you all, but I'm on the Wine, (and birthday chocs as it was birthday this week, it was my 'life the universe and everything birthday' Grin

off to seaside next week, but dh is a bit ropey at the moment, (he has CMT) so it may be sign and signlet alone for the holiday... Hmm not sure how that will go. but willing to try..

SparkleRainbow · 01/04/2011 18:58

seaside sounds nice though! Will be joining you on the Wine shortly

moosemama · 01/04/2011 19:11

Triggles, we still have ds2 (6) and dd (2) at home, yet its still eerily quiet and still by comparison. Says a lot about ds1 really. Grin

First evening I can recall when the other two haven't been wound up to nigh on hysterical by the time dh gets in the door.

Mmm, Wine would go really well with that choc cake that's calling me enticingly from the kitchen .....
