Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

I can't believe how unsupportive this board still is!!!!!

We are supposed to be here to support one another, cheer people up where possible, give advice where possible.
I have been on this board years and I would say the last year has been terrible!!
It doesn't matter what the ability or the need is we all still go through similar issues and feelings.
There seems to be a lot of jealousy and striving to be the best!!
The board has put me off posting a lot of my issues, due to the lack of support and hurtful comments that people have and haven't been giving.
I can not leave the board as my situation is desperate, however I have become more of a lurker, please also think what this has done to regular advice givers and supporters, people who have also been around for years...........gone!!!!!

amber, sorry to hear you were getting hate mail, that's disgraceful, I'd have been scared too. Sending you best wishes for your treatment.

dev I don't know what is going on but you sound in a bad place. You can't control or regulate this board. It is the way that it is and it is organic and never the same from one day to the next and if you posted exactly the same thing a week apart you are likely to get different responses.

I'm sorry you feel unsupported but really, you, like us all, just have to regulate YOURSELF to be able to get the most out of it. YOu need to try again if your first attempt at getting help went a bit wrong, and you need to shrug your shoulders when things don't work out.

It's easy to take things personally, because the things you post about are personal, but it really is an impersonal space and therefore responses can be blunt, on a whim and according to the mood of the posters.

If, on the whole, you are not getting what you need then you need to find somewhere else, or experiment with a change of tone/topic etc. Starting a thread like this might make you feel better in the shortrun but it probably won't help you overall.

Good luck with whatever is going on and I hope you find some solutions and some support.

in RL, we need to be single-minded about getting what they need for our DCs - and sometimes you get to the point where you trust no-one telling you that you may be wrong - bcs we fear that they all either have a hidden agenda, are covering their a*ses or are more worried about their budget than our DC

sometimes we come on here looking for reassurance that we ARE right in spite of what all the feckers are telling us - but it can be really valuable when someone (who is completely independent of your LEA, health authority, school) says to you - "hold on a minute, maybe you're not 100% right" - what I am trying to say is that sometimes we feel we want support - but maybe we need to be challenged too some times (though not in a nasty way of course)

As usual with this type of threada lot of this has gone over my head. I have used the boards for a while now with several different identitites and I think the vast majority of posts are very supportive.
