I will duplicate this thread in chat as well, JIC.

Some of you will have happened to pop by just now; welcome, and be aware things will calm down soon.

others will have come from the publicity- hello. If it is advice you need shout, message, if we cannot help we absolutely will know someone whose job it is to do so; if you want to help- thank you ; if you just want to be part of a supportive board, well come on in.

A few of you may be journalists: understandable, you have to pay the bills like the rest of us.
Please, I ask you to respect the dificulties that carers and aprents of disabled children on here face. Some will only have just learned their child has SN, or be facing real fears. Others have additional hardship s to deal with also. I hope you are motivated by a want to help people with challnges and that's great, but please be aware we are not hare to inform but to get advice or give it.

Thank you

2shoes · 21/01/2011 12:03

welcome
please please don't use text talk though, I am way to old to get that

321pen · 21/01/2011 12:13

Hi Peachy.
Thanks for the welcome. I suspect that you may find a number of newcomers like me turning up who weren't aware of mumsnets existence before all the recent publicity. Having lurked since yesterday and seen how much great support and advice is here I can only say I wish I'd found you sooner.
I am the mum of a 13 year old boy with athetoid cp who has recently also been diagnosed with aspergers syndrome. We've muddled through as best we could over the years but it would have been such a help to have had other parents to talk to who had a proper understanding of how tough things can be. Hopefully some of my experience gained over the years may also be of help to others going through similar difficulties.

gilly3 · 21/01/2011 12:13

I have a 12 year old son,who is autistic, has severe uncontrolled epilepsy, and severe learning difficulties,we are the same as the family in the news,we get little or no support.
Our family hit crisis point on a regular basis, but by the time social services do get to giving any help, you are out of crisis,so each time you cope alone.
the extent of neglect of families like mine is sad ,when wll the goverment wake up to the plight of carers and their families.
is it any wonder that parents take their own life and that of their child,in order to bring an end to their desperation.
something has to be done, which is why i have joined mumsnet, maybe just maybe,if we all make our voices heard ,they won,t be able to ignore us anymore...

Me too bigcar! How long do you have to be on before you're no longer a new member? :)

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 21/01/2011 12:35

hello gilly and 321 Smile

I notice edcm have picked up on riven's story and are asking people to email their local councils about ringfencing funding. If you want to add your voice to edcm if you haven't already, hope the link works, edcm must be inundated at present, I can't get onto their site.

1980, I think pretty much straight away once you've posted Smile

beldaran · 21/01/2011 12:46

Glad you posted this, made me think more about posting than lurking like i have done.

springlamb · 21/01/2011 12:47

Oh, and please use the occasional full stop. Otherwise I get all breathless and wheezy and fall off my chair!

I was looking forward to the too tired thread, but also thought the idea of an SN mums Style and Beauty thread would be a good one too Grin
