have a look here; it's the 4th question down . It's one of the main reasons we refused to send ds1 to a unit we thought would almost certainly be unsuitable for him (so he ended up in mainstream, we weren;t allowed to look at the other special schools; alhough mainstream was a disaster I still think it was a better decision than the unit! We would have struggled to get him out)

I didn't know that either, that's terrifying! What if your child was really unhappy there and you really needed to take him out?

Sorry this is so tough essbee, I don't know what else to say about it - it's bloody impossible, isn't it? Such huge decisions with so little support I'm around if you want to rant/chat/scoff biscuits.

See you soon anyway.

I do agree with christie- with the right special school (& don't completely discount EBD- just ask about their experience with ASD life becomes incredibly amazingly easier. I wouldn't let ds1 set foot near a mainstream school now. I do know the one with the Rowans unit has an excellent reputation.

Does it have to be a residential placement?

Essbee, I've missed all these threads. I'm so sorry you are having so much trauma. We are considering home educating my ds atm. He's really not coping with school. Don't send him anywhere unless you really feel it is right for him. It's only three weeks to the end of term.

We both work from home but I'm panicky about how to fit it all in. IS there any chance of getting him into a fee paying school? I know that's a mad thought, but if you really fought through tribunals etc? He sounds so clever.

essbee- think carefully before home edding- because your ds can be so challenging. Do you think that would change if he didn't have to go to school? (In some cases it does- it's school that's the problem). You would need some respite as well.

PS Me too (re. September.... know exactly what you mean....)
