So, I have just eaten four Porky Light sausages as a snack!!! Blush Am I getting the plan wrong is that still only 4 syns as apparently they are only 0.5 syns each.

So today I have had:

BFast: Weetabix with milk, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and half a banana. HexA and HexB?

Lunch: 2 potato waffles, spaghetti hoops and salad for speed - 5 syns

Snack: Fruit salad and O% Fat yoghurt - 1.5 syn

Snack = Porky Light sausages x 4 - 2 syns

So by my reckoning, I am still under my syns for the day and I can have something free or use up the rest of my syns on it? That's a lot of sausages!

ClashCityRocker · 24/02/2017 17:28

Our basket is free food or none food treats like face masks, hand creams and other bits of tut that's left over from christmas gift sets. We can put low-syn items in but have to write the number of Syns on it.

pippa you can indeed have something free or use up Syns. I believe some brands of zero yoghurt are free, too, so you could maybe switch that and use up some Syns.

Be careful of eating everything in sight because it's free or low Syns though - you do need to keep any eye on portion size a wee bit - which is where having a third speed helps for meals.

but yup, seems on plan to me!

PippaFawcett · 24/02/2017 17:35

Thanks Clash. So perhaps the sausages should have been eaten as part of a meal then and not as a speed free snack? They were nice though!

ALemonyPea · 24/02/2017 17:39

Ooooo porky lights. Might have to have them next week, have a freezer full and DH is off for a week to look after me. Can see lots of cooked breakfasts on the horizon in Chez Pea.

I'd have something synned for later. You hyperthetically could have free food, but you'd not get the satisfaction of, say, a packet of crisps.

My consultant would say you should just have speed foods as snacks, where's the fun in that?

My consultant seems to live on SW ready meals and fry-ups, our group has a facebook support thread and she posts photos of every meal, all free foods but very little, if any, speed. Then again, she is 7 stone down and has maintained her weightloss for 5+ years so who am I to criticise? Hmm

I quite like the idea of a handmade gift in the Slimmer of the Week basket, it's sweet @ALemonyPea. I got a tin of baked beans, a Mugshot and a sachet of Argan Oil hair conditioner in my basket, that golden week when I lost 6lbs. I also got a mango, a pineapple, some cherries and lots of apples. It was BRILLIANT!!

BasinHaircut · 24/02/2017 18:08

I stick to speed or syns for snacks (unless it's a banana but only ever 1 per day). As I see it if I eat free foods as snacks then I'll be consuming way more calories than I need but they are all 'free'. If I stick to speed I know it's almost negligible calorie-wise and if I use syns once they are gone they are gone so there is a limit to how much I can eat. Seems like a logical way to control it to me.

I don't have many syns as snacks though as I tend to use them to add more indulgent ingredients to my dinners (e.g. Butter, cheese and wine in Risotto). I try not to snack because I think that's a habit that needs to be broken, but that's just me. You will find your way!

loveslipstick · 24/02/2017 18:21

Was craving a kebab!

Syn free as my wrap is my HEb for the day

PippaFawcett · 24/02/2017 18:25

Thanks everyone. I have no time for dinner as I'm about to start ferrying the DC around for the eve. And yes, I probably need to break my grazing habits. I'm a horror for not having proper meals but snacking throughout the day. I wonder how I ended up needing to lose 7.5 stones?!

ALemonyPea · 24/02/2017 18:41

My pizza was amazing mmmmmm. DH however was not impressed by the smell haha.

Lipstick that kebab looks gorgeous!
Pippa I'm a massive snacker I don't work so I feel like I'm continuously surrounded by food!!
Well done oriana!

I've had a good day I've been so busy the last couple of days I've not eaten a huge amount. I've got a meal out tomorrow at my favourite Lebanese but I will stick to meat and salad.
My fil has been over today and left a Bara brith cake for the kids which is very kind but I bloody love it too! I feel so much better since I've given up sugar I really don't want to go back!

I use my heb for nuts you don't get many but I use them with fruit and Greek yogurt, walnuts are especially good you only get 6 halves though so I crumble them up.

B-banana and coffee
L-strawberries, ff Greek yogurt and walnuts
S-two chicken drumsticks
D-chicken and spinach madras with cauli rice

alibongo5 · 24/02/2017 19:16

basin from what our Consultant said, it used to be fruit only but now it's any non-perishable free food. So at ours I don't think eggs would be allowed but we often have things like pasta or mugshots.

OwlinaTree · 24/02/2017 19:37

Well done oriana! Welcome pippa.

madein1995 · 24/02/2017 20:06

I'm finding the speed aspect a bit tricky - I mean I do eat plenty of fruit, and most meals have veg in the sauce etc but I don't eat lots of speed on the side. For eg today I've had a hifi bar (rushed brekkie and only fruit in house - bananas - are still green!), leek and potato soup and half a wholemeal roll, a snack was a muller light and tea was chicken curry (with added mushrooms, brocolli, peppers and onion) and rice, with mango to follow. So although the speed was in the sauce and not on the side, does it still count do you think?

Breakfast is usually a hifi or two/banana or other fruit eg berries with yogurt/occasionally overnight oats or porridge.
Our basket can be speed, other free foods (normally fruit or veg, tins of baked beans etc, spices), hexbs etc. Usually I put in a hifi bar or a banana or something. I did win slimmer of the week once (when I did it last time, two years ago) and was chuffed with mine and planned my weeks food around it. Was also v. glad I'd not done my shopping yet as I could cross things off my list!

00100001 · 24/02/2017 20:08

1995 1/3 of your meal needs to be speed. Doesn't matter if it's mixed up with other stuff :)

madein1995 · 24/02/2017 20:14

Thanks 001 Smile
Well done losers Smile
I now have decent fruit - my favourite 'dessert' atm is mango chunks, or failing that a bowl of berries and a muller light. Talking of muller lights I tried the coconut and lime one today, was really nice. Also bit the buller and bought quark - not sure what I can do with it. I thought of mixing it with some pasta, bacon and herbs/mushrooms etc to make a kind of carbonara but other than that stumped. Anyone got any yummy ideas? Smile I got the plain one first cos I suppose there's more I can do with a plain one

ALemonyPea · 24/02/2017 20:35

Quark is great in a quiche. Makes it lovely and firm.

Ooh the 1/3 speed thing is my consultant's hobby horse!

She is of the opinion that regardless of what's in the sauce, you need a third of your plate to be speed as it reduces the portion size. in group she waves her special speed plate round like a maniac. She believes speed is a bonus food if in a sauce.

It's always funny when the vegetarian in our group, who cooks lovely looking vegetable curries, chillies, ratatouilles tells us what she's had and our consultant asks her where the speed it...she's a bit batshit is our consultant.

Personally, I'm all for the common sense approach - if you've bulked out a curry with lots of veg it's just daft piling a load more veg on the side for the sake of it. I just use a smaller plate so I can't put so much on!

For other types of meals, I do tend to stick to it.

Occasionally, I can get too into 'the plan' and it's easy to forget that free food still has a calorific value and speed doesn't magically lose its nutritional value because of where you put it on the plate.

If your weightloss stalls, give it a bash - I do think there is some merit in the portion control function and do find I eat less when doing it.

madein1995 · 24/02/2017 20:54

I know SW isn't about calorie counting (and I don't), but I do tend to enter my day's intake on MFP. Not for any real reason - I certainly don't worry about having ate an apple so I've not got any calories left for my banana!- but I do it as a way of checking I'm getting the right nutrients (even on a low syn day I find it easy to go over on my sugars and under on my vit b and c) and also I try not to go over 1350. If I was really hungry, I'd eat regardless of the calorie intake but for me I know it'd be easy to say 'oh mullerlights and bananas or whatever are free' and eat loads and loads and mindlessly overeat Smile

Love that looks so yummy!

ClashCityRocker · 24/02/2017 21:05

I know what you mean 95.

I occassionally sense check calories - and to be fair, usually SW eating comes comfortably under 1400 or so.

Occassionally, I will think 'fuck Syns'. The main culprit is a dr oetker pizza. Half a pizza is 440 cals, and works out at 20 Syns so, if I was being strict, I couldn't even have it.

However, captain common since dictates that half a pizza of 440 cals with a half plate of side salad is a tea of 500 cals ish. It wasn't 500 cal teas that got me overweight, I'll tell you that for nowt! I don't do it very often - maybe once a month or so - I've tried calorie counting in the past and can't sustain it, so SW really makes things simple for me.

ButterChicken · 24/02/2017 21:41

Diet Coke chicken here for dinner tonight, really recommended it! So yummy!

Emmageddon · 24/02/2017 21:49

How do you make diet coke chicken?

BasinHaircut · 24/02/2017 22:57

Another one here who uses MFP to check calories. I did get a bit obsessed with it a while back but now I just do the odd day to check. But I come in at about 1500kcal on a typical day 'on plan', and considering I know I could have eaten that in one takeaway pre-SW I know the plan is working.

clash I was pondered no similar when I was facing pizza Express with no low-syn options last week. Those leggera pizza/salad things are under 600kcal so I did considering just restrained crying calories to compensate but couldn't bring myself to do it, even though as you say common sense tells me that would be ok.

alibongo5 · 24/02/2017 22:58

Ooh I had the diet coke chicken earlier in the week - really nice! The recipe is on the website.

Groovee · 24/02/2017 23:55

I've been out and synned... really enjoyed the Chinese as we have one like yo sushi. Had duck, lamb, salt and pepper chicken, noodles, ice cream and cake! Back on plan100% tomorrow x

BasinHaircut · 25/02/2017 07:51

Had friends round for dinner last night and fed them a slimming world recipe. They had no idea until afterwards when I told them. They thought we must have been having a night off the diet Grin

Another SW win!
