Hope Calzone doesn't mind me starting the new thread- we've run out of room- eek!

Me new thing for this week has been cauliflower rice. Filling, doesn't taste too bad with strong flavours like chilli or curry but boy does it stink!

We are going to OH parents today for a BBQ and I need some syn free or low syn ideas to take with me.
Im thinking sainsburys bgty sausages as they are low syn and maybe make veg skewers but anyone got any other ideas?

ALemonyPea · 14/05/2016 11:26

Do you have time to make yourself some syn free potato salad?

New potatoes, boiled egg chopped up, fat free plain yoghurt, spring onions, mustard powder, squeeze of lemon juice

EmilyK83 · 14/05/2016 11:41

Aww Rupeo - hope the foot heals soon!

Solina - you could make your own kebabs? 5% minced beef, an egg, salt and pepper plus whichever herbs and spices you want?

Or coat chicken pieces in frylight and sprinkle with jerk seasoning?

EmilyK83 · 14/05/2016 11:42

Or if you haven't used your HexA choice today, halloumi is amazing on the BBQ!

Buttwing · 14/05/2016 12:05

Hi all well done all the losersSmile

I really love Indian food, we have it at least once a week all my family love this one from hairy bikers-

Big pack of chicken thigh fillets
Four red chillis
One onion
Three cloves garlic
Three teaspoons medium curry powder
Tin of chopped tomatoes
Half pint if chicken stock

Chop onion, two if the chillis and crush garlic brown for a couple of mins
Add curry powder cook for two mins
Add tomatoes and bubble for five mins til reduced a bit
Add chicken and coat with mixture cook for a couple if mins
Throw it all in a casserole pit with lid on and cook at 160 for two hours

It's madras hot so if it's too hot for you reduce the amount of chillis it's still really good even my kids love it.
Add stock slice the remaining two
chillis length ways and add

Chubby cubs blog is so funny and lots of good recipes on there.

Managed to get hold of some kingsmill wholemeal no crusts so lunch is going to be a big bacon and turkey club sw as you can have 3 slices of this as a heb. It goes like wildfire here and always empty shelves.

Breakfast was skyr strawberry yog (only 3.5 syns for a big tub and so creamy) with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and passionfruit. Lovely.

Tea is steak stirfry.

Have a good day everyone!

thelionsleeps · 14/05/2016 12:18

Buttwing that recipe looks lovely and not too complicated. Adding that to the list of things to try.

Buttwing · 14/05/2016 12:34

Sorry not sure what happened with my last post I'm on my phone the last stage of the recipe ended up at the end if the post!

The lion I love how easy it is and you don't need to buy a million spices that you never end up using!!!

Buttwing · 14/05/2016 12:36

To clarify-add chilli and stock then put in the oven.

Otherwise it would be horrible Grin

Solina · 14/05/2016 12:39

Thanks everyone. I might make some potato salad, we are not going until 3, then do some veg skewers with tomato, onion, pepper etc and have the sausages. Should be plenty and keep me away from all the high syn stuff.

EmilyK83 I love halloumi but I think I might end up eating too much if I get some! How many grams as a HeA?

EmilyK83 · 14/05/2016 13:08

You can have 50g of the Sainsburys light halloumi as your HexA - reckon you can get a good 3 slices out of that - or thread it onto veg kebab skewers! Maybe if you make sure you only take the 50g with you...?

froubylou · 14/05/2016 13:56

Morning all

Some really good losses, well done everyone.

B. Museil and yoghurt
L. Dunno yet. Not that hungry so might have fruit or something
T. Steak, mushrooms, onions, salad and a jacket potatoes I think. Some kind of sauce maybe?

S. G and t or 2. Sauce for the steak.

Also walking up to a local ish pub later maybe with the dog and toddler when he wakes up so an hour of body magic.

calzone · 14/05/2016 18:32

B....35g bran flakes, Ff yoghurt

L....bacon, egg, mushrooms and tomatoes, bowl fruit and yoghurt

Snack.....cannellini and tuna salad

D....seafood spaghetti but using courgetti as well as spaghetti

ALemonyPea · 14/05/2016 19:29

That recipe looks great Butt, will give it a try.

Really enjoyed my food today, quite stuffed now.mive started eating my speed foods first if they're separate, which means I sometimes have leftovers, which is unusual for me.

EmilyK83 · 14/05/2016 21:37

So...I succumbed to a few tasters at the food festival. But not as many as I could have done! Relatively restrained.

And I decided to walk there and back, meaning according to my Fitbit I've walked over 8.5 miles today. Should cancel out some of those tasters! Grin

Solina · 14/05/2016 22:02

So I ended up having corn on the cob, veg kebab things with onion, pepper, mushroom and tomato and some sainsburys bgty sausages. Decided not to have the halloumi as rest of it would have been wasted. I had a brown roll as a HeB too!

However, I am over syns limit due to a glass of wine and some cake but could have been much worse with the usual BBQ food.

Marmite17 · 15/05/2016 08:35

Has anyone with low thyroid function tried SW? I'm seeing a health trainer tomorrow as I've gained so much weight; blood tests on the level of Levothyroxine I now take were underactive and then, for the first time in three years , normal.
I lost 10 pounds using My Fitness Pal, 1200 plus exercise and then thyroid was out and gained more weight.
Cannot understand how you could eat so much and still lose weight? Portion control was my biggest enemy when calorie counting.

thelionsleeps · 15/05/2016 09:43

Marmite I haven't got experience of low thyroid function but the whole idea behind the speed foods (which should make up 1/3 of your plate) is that they are the lower calorie stuff so make you feel fuller and by eating 1/3 it means you eat less of other stuff. I haven't logged my food on mfp since starting sw but can imagine it would be pretty low.

thelionsleeps · 15/05/2016 09:44

Although 1200 sounds v low to me long term.

ALemonyPea · 15/05/2016 11:05

I'm so ill today. Been awake most f the night and been to the walk in centre this morning, I've got tonsillitis. So that's probably a good thing for my diet.

Not even going to meal plan today, don't want to eat anything just yet.

itmustbemyage · 15/05/2016 11:18

Marmite I am on Levothyroxine 125mg / day have been on tablets for more than 10 years. I had gained a whole load of weight. I have been doing SW since January very successfully it is so much easier than calorie counting ( I did WW years ago before medication again very successfully but I turned into a completely obsessed diet bore). I fill up on speed foods and keep the syns low and it really works for me. My friend who is also on thyroxine is on a VLCD at the moment she is losing weight but not as quickly as I am on SW. I would really recommend the SW way of healthy eating ( it's not just a diet in my opinion) cause for those of us with an under active thyroid we need to find something that works in the long term. By the way I am not a SW member just following the plan(ish).

EmilyK83 · 15/05/2016 11:51

Hope you feel better soon Lemony!!

Big non scale victory today. Just tried on an old pair of size 12 jeans from the back of my wardrobe and they fit! Didn't know if it was a fluke...but went out this morning and bought a pair of size 12 skinny jeans and a size 12 top which fit perfectly!! So happy!

Today's plan:

B - fruit

Skinny latte while out as HexA

L - ham and egg salad

D - leftover chilli con carne from last night with rice and salad

Alpen Light and a Benefit Light bar as my HexB, aiming to have 10 syns or under...

Also planning on walking as much as I can today - beautiful day here so want to make the most of it!

emwithme · 15/05/2016 16:18

Feel better soon, Lemony - tonsillitis is NASTY. Have you tried gargling with soluble aspirin (and swallowing if you want)...was recommended by a very old (and old-school) GP I used to have and it definitely helped.

Yay for NSV Emily , it's nice when new things fit. I don't think I've ever been a size 12...I remember skipping from a 10 to a 14 when I was 18 or so and then never been that skinny since. Am hoping that I'll get there by the end of the year...

The food diary is going really well for me, am treating this like my first week. Going to hand it in to the consultant on Thursday to see if she's got any tips or if there's something I'm going glaringly wrong at...I know I'm consistently losing 1lb a week (apart from this week's gain) but I'm doing the plan 100% and only seeing that so there's something SOMEWHERE.

Today's food:

Brunch: Bacon, eggs, beans, mushrooms, tomato
Dinner: Roast beef, yorkshire puddings, roast potato, carrot, cabbage, cauliflower. Proper Gravy.
HEA: Milk
HEB: Hifi bars.

calzone · 15/05/2016 17:33

B.....fruit, yoghurt, bran flakes

L....cannellini beans and tuna salad
Sn.....fruit

D.....Mexican chicken fajitas and SW hummus with salad

Will post photo later

ALemonyPea · 15/05/2016 17:48

Thanks everyone. I feel ok when I keep on top of pain relief and I've had a little nap. DH brought me a Sunday dinner from my mams and I've eaten it and the chocolate cherry trifle. Goodness knows how many syns, but I've barely eaten my syns this week as I knew I was meant to be going there today. The only syn things on the dinner would have been the Yorkshire pudding and the gravy, it's more the pud that did me in.

Not hungry now, but will see later, might just snack on fruit. Could really do with some big oranges, but didn't pick any up in my shopping.

Well done on the size 12 Emily, I would be shouting it from the rooftops! Can't remember the last time I was a size 12, definitely no later that 2001.
