So my usual American site has now been blocked, any suggestions?

My GP said that melatonin is now an option for insomnia through the NHS. So I’d recommend seeing your GP.

Flannelfeet · 05/02/2026 12:07

I just managed to order some on that link I put further up thread. Free delivery was offered too, hope this helps someone. ❤️

I take 30 my and still wake up 😬😬😬

You can take too much though. I've done lots of reading about it. After a certain level it's not beneficial.

I take 5mg, but not every night.

I was actually told I needed to take a 2 week break from it but I haven't for a while. I feel so shite when I can't sleep.

Melatonin helps you fall asleep but it doesn’t make you stay asleep. Apparently adding magnesium can help with that.

I have just started taking magnesium about 3 weeks ago as I was told it helped with restless leg syndrome...its not helping me with thst yet 😫. Do you have any recommendations for that please?

I would try magnesium oil rubbed directly into your legs before bed each night. I use it for muscle cramps/spasms, and also a mg capsule at night to help sleep (I have also not been able to get my usual melatonin due to the new regs around shipping l/selling to the uk now, I had previously used the same online french pharmacies for years with no problems). I recommended the oil to a friend for her restless legs - after she tried it whilst staying here and it helping - and she finds it really helpful for it. I would personally continue to take mg as well as using the oil still, but obviously can’t recommend if you should or shouldn’t.

Thank you for your help, I am going to look online for the oil later tonight, I would honestly try anything. Between jumping around the bed with the legs and the tinnitus its a nightmare. Theres more but I wont go into it here, I am honestly falling to bits, 🤣.

Thanks again ❤️.

ObsessiveGoogler · 05/02/2026 17:36

My DD did manage to get the slow release ones from our GP but they left her groggy - the gummies are much better as she doesn't need help staying asleep, just drifting off. Think I'll put in a big Biovea order.

FoxRedPuppy · 05/02/2026 17:39

I tried magnesium oil, but it made my skin prickle and sting- anyone else had this?

GoldbergVariations · 05/02/2026 17:42

Stock up on holiday. I bought some in Aldi in Portugal this week, and it's freely available in Spain where I am now. For years I used to buy it in the Co op in Italy.

To put it bluntly, it fucking sucks, doesn’t it? 😁 Spending the nights fully awake and/or your body not being able to lie still, yet spending the days like a zombie with barely the energy to move!
I get my oils in Holland & Barrett. I’ll get a photo of the ones I use and post it shortly. And also of the capsules I’m currently using.

LadyGreySpillsTheTea · 07/02/2026 16:19

Melatonin is prescription-free in Germany and there are several online chemists that deliver to the UK. The three I just found are meinapo.de, ipill and apohealth (apo is short for Apotheke). Meinapo charges 14 euros for delivery to the uk so you‘d want to buy a fair bit each time to stock up. I saw one product called Dr Theiss Ein-und Durchschlaftabletten which has 1.5mg melatonin plus several herbal remedies to keep you asleep. They‘re tablets not gummis though.

Oh i know... I feel like im running on fresh air. I go to my bed at 8pm and im up at 6 to get the oldest up for school then sort the wee one. I am gubbed 😔. When the legs start I could honestly cry, I literally swing the legs for hrs and hrs wishing I could cut the bastards off 😆 🤣 😂. That would be so good if you could let me know what you get, I actually just got an email from Holland and Barrett this morning telling me I had 5 quid to spend on my awards card. Guess what im buying? Xx

Can I ask when your gp said this and if your in Scotland or England please? Id love to know if its worth while asking my own gp again as it has been a few years since I was told no. Xx

InLoveWithAI · 07/02/2026 17:28

Oh no! Gutted piping rock is gone. Looks like it's more holidays to to continent now to stock up.

Going to the canaries soon, anyone know if you can buy it there?

You don’t even need a GP, Boots will do it (as I recently learned!).

You are actually kidding me on!! Fml, ive been in a panic thinking im going to run out soon and if this order doesn't come then im doomed for a life of insomnia. I shall be going to boots on Monday.

Can't see me getting 30mg though.

I brought some back from USA last year but have not used them yet, thought they would have been good for jet lag but slept anyway.
Could it be worth taking one when I wake at 1am thinking of work and not being able to get back to sleep for a few hours.

Absolutely. They would help with that, someone up thread said they take one when they wake up in the wee hrs to help them fall back over.

I’m a lifelong insomniac and I find melatonin really helps. I bought it last week from a site which seems to be in America, but guessing they must have a UK warehouse based on how quick they arrived. I take 3mg tablets and break them in half, I’ve read a lot about lower doses being more effective. If I take 3mg at once I’m almost guaranteed to wake up about 3 am and have crazy dreams. The site I get them from is Biovea.
