I mean with no requirement for you to intervene at all? Clearly I'm desperate for quality sleep on a regular basis and I'm just trying to establish a realistic timeline of how long I will have to wait for that as I have a 6 month old

dc1&2 at around 3 months old
dc3 at 3yo...

dunroamingfornow · 05/05/2021 22:33
  1. Probably not what you want to hear but suspect that it's unusual as most of the mums I know had babies sleeping through in the first year
Horizons83 · 05/05/2021 22:34

About 8 months.

beccahamlet · 05/05/2021 22:35

12 months. I had 4.

DelurkingAJ · 05/05/2021 22:36

Sorry...reliably when DS1 started school at 4 and 10 months. DS2 is just 5 and has weeks where he’s fine and other weeks where he disturbs us every night. But they’re pretty extreme.

Fitforforty · 05/05/2021 22:36

About 2.5 years but when we had DD2 and DD1 sleep when to pot.

UCOinSteveArnottsPants · 05/05/2021 22:36

Dd was 11yrs old.

Ds about 5yrs.

MonkeyPuddle · 05/05/2021 22:37

DS did it naturally around 8 months
DD I have sleep trained with controlled crying at 6 mo as she was waking every 45/60 minutes for 2 months.

MondeoFan · 05/05/2021 22:37

About age 18/20 months

bathorshower · 05/05/2021 22:39

When she went to school, so 4.5ish.... And that's (sadly) more common than people tend to admit. We only have one.

daisyjgrey · 05/05/2021 22:40

Reliably, about 5.

willowmelangell · 05/05/2021 22:40

6 years.

KFleming · 05/05/2021 22:41

Well, the first time she did it she was 8 weeks and I’d taken her to a baby music group thing that day. I went back to that group for months, desperate for her to replicate the sleep!

She started reliably sleeping that much from about 9/10 months. Before that she had maybe 2/3 months of just waking once at night for a feed (breastfed).

Chwaraeteg · 05/05/2021 22:42

22 months, for my forst (and not reliably until about a year later).

My second - 5 weeks old. And that's only because I was waking her to feed prior to that.

All you can do is wait, I'm afraid! They'll sleep when they sleep.

eve80 · 05/05/2021 22:44

2 years and half

HenryHooverIII · 05/05/2021 22:44

I'm not quite sure what you mean by no intervention at all? Do you mean no bedtime feed or cuddle to sleep? I still cuddled mine to sleep until about a year old. Cos I am soft like that.

However, they both went down for the night once they went to bed. By six months, both of them were doing 8pm to 6am. I seem to recall both went through an incessant dummy replacing stage at five months and settled nicely after that ended.

Bellabelloo · 05/05/2021 22:48

3 months for me. My friend gave me a sleep schedule that I followed religiously which was based on them sleeping through the night at 3 months. DC slept through the night at 3 months on the dot. I can still remember how amazing it felt to have had 8 hours + sleep (obviously after the panic of checking he was still ok). I messaged my friend to thank her...only for her to reply that it had never worked for her!!!!!! I think it's down to the individual child. We were lucky. He's always been a brilliant sleeper apart from when he was teething or ill. But I know I've been lulled into a false sense of security and number 2 is bound to keep me awake for the next 5 years....!

Thehighlandcoo · 05/05/2021 22:50

6 months - the moment we moved her into her own room!

EcoCustard · 05/05/2021 22:52

From bedtime story and cuddle until after 6am in the morning:
Dc1 3.5 years
Dc2 6 months
Dc3 18 months
Dc4 is 2 and still not experienced it.
I remember every other parent telling me about their 7pm-7am sleepers with Dc1 and I sometimes I would go home and cry as he was relentless and never slept more than 1.5 hours without waking, I was broken. He is 6 now and sleeps very well from 7.30-8pm until I wake him at 7.15 am. Hang on in there.

Goodtohear · 05/05/2021 22:57

Dc1 5 years old.
Dt 8 months.

YouAreTheWordsIAmTheTune · 05/05/2021 22:59

DC1 - 6 weeks
DC2 - 3472 years well that's what it felt like after DC1!

21Flora · 05/05/2021 23:05

As soon as our daughter moved to her own room she slept through (10 months). We had a suspicion that we were waking her up so we tried it and haven’t looked back!

Notthissticky · 05/05/2021 23:06

DC1 did 7 hours around 5 weeks IIRC. I was told to wake him up at the 6 week check as he wasn't growing properly, so it wasn't a good thing with him.
DC2 around 11-12 weeks (I didn't actually use the I slept through the night milestone card as I felt I could hardly tell anyone...)

Insightful to see that other people have good sleepers too. It's not something you broadcast at baby groups etc!

VivaDixie · 05/05/2021 23:10

DS1 after a bottle cuddle and settle slept 8 hours at 5 weeks old, moved up to 13 hours sleep at 6 weeks old

DS2, we can't remember as we were sleep deprived until he was 3 and a half. I think he cracked it by age 4.

We did exactly the same with both, but every baby has their own ideas. Good luck, I know how tough it is Flowers

steppemum · 05/05/2021 23:10

Dc1 - 5 weeks (10pm - 6 am)
Dc2 - 7 months (10 pm - 7 am)
Dc3 - 6 months, but from about 8 weeks, she just woke once for a feed and back to sleep
