  • I wish.

Morning all,

Hope you find this!

for your rough night Amber.

After a few good ones, we had a crap one too. Up at 1.30, 3, 4.30, 5.30, 6.15........
I think she was a bit overtired last night. Hope we can get her napping better today .

So how were all your nights?

Ooh - I nearly had a home birth. Had to transfer to hospital as DD was at a funny angle and after 3 hours we all trudged off for ventouse. Would definitely do it again though - your own loo, own fridge full of goodies, 2 midwives just for you. But then we're only 5 mins in the ambulance from the hospital (as I found out !).

i had a fab home birth so glad i did. couldn't have done it without a lovely doula though who gave me the confidence. ds got a new book from amazon today, he lurrrves it. he's such a little book worm already! ok, nap time for him. cooking time for me. xx

tibsy · 19/09/2007 13:43

tam - i didnt have a particularly nice experience in hospital with ds, had pethidine too and it knocked us both out couldnt wait to escape the place (not too good with any medical type establishment - docs, hospital, dentist...) so with dd, i read the gentle birth method, got the cd to soften my cervix! , borrowed a TENS machine and hey presto...think dp was more scared than me!! you're not chicken, just got to do what you feel comfortable with.

ibs - we're close to hospital too, so would have been ok should i have needed to go. hope you manage to next time.......next time?..are you crazy?

amber - i like the idea of a doula. watched several programmes whilst i was pg about doulas and their work. V interesting. Hope ds enjoys his book

right, went to the library yesterday, so off to stick my head in a book!! ttfn x

Amberjee · 19/09/2007 14:05

oh ds is apparently not ready for a nap even though it's 2.00 , cries in cot, but happy when up, so i guess he is up for cooking with me then.

gingerninja · 19/09/2007 14:10

Tam, he's gifted. You should be proud.

All this talk of birthings makes me feel a wimp. I went to a midwife centre rather than a hospital and thought I did well on just gas and air and a birthing pool. Now you've set the threshold so high I'll have to bite a bit of wood for DC2. I would definately consider home birth for the second although where I went I was the only person to give birth in about 3 days. Two lovely midwives all to me and balls, pools all the facilities and no clearing up

ImBarryScott · 19/09/2007 14:13

Ginger - I had tonnes of pain relief at home! Got through 4 canisters of gas and air, and wouldn't get in the ambulance until I'd made certain they had it in there too .

Amberjee · 19/09/2007 14:17

ginger, the midwife centre sounds lovely. i didn't have to clean up at home, just hopped straight into bed (after stitches - youch!) i think my mum and the doula did most of it.

MegBusset · 19/09/2007 14:17

Hah -- I had 2 shots of pethidine (loved it!) and still ended up with an epidural

Mind you, that was after 42 hours of back-to-back labour so don't feel too much of a wuss!

Like the idea of home birth, but would hate to have to clear up the mess

tibsy · 19/09/2007 14:47

meg you are hardcore!! only had one shot and it completely wiped me out, felt shaky, sick, the whole works

ginger - midwife centre sounds lovely. piece of wood, hah! i expect no less than you to give birth in complete silence next time

i think i coped with just the TENS cos i'd already been thru it once iyswim? my body already had an idea of what it could cope with. plus i'm a lot more hippy now than i was but the best bit about it for me, was being alert when they lifted dd onto my chest, i cried!!!......i was completely out of it when ds was born and i wasnt aware at all

tibsy · 19/09/2007 14:49

meg just re read your post......back to back? my upmost respect to you, heard it is VERY painful

Amberjee · 19/09/2007 15:16

ouch meg, am surprised you didn't demand 10 epidurals!
tibs, yeah it was nice to be with it immediately after the birth. i kept waiting for ds to go into that long sleep they talk about though after the birth and he never did. i guess it set the stage for things to come.

tibsy · 19/09/2007 15:58

sleep?...pah!! its overrated anyway

best dash ds will be home soon, hungry, no doubt!!!

hope everyone has a decent night, catch you all tomorrow

Tamdin · 20/09/2007 07:50

morning

ok night here. ds on the mend

asleep by 8
woke at 12.30 (milk and in with us)
woke at 7.30 for the day

very wintery day here today. would loveto stay under a duvet with some good films today but having a son has changed all that!

ImBarryScott · 20/09/2007 08:00

Morning all,

Hi Tam - for just one waking. glad to hear DS is getting better. Although presumably this means you'll have to get out and about, rather than snuggling up at home!

Ok night here - DD went to bed after 4 mins crying. Heard her snuffling around plenty of times - DH not keen on turning monitor down . Really need to sort my own sleep out now - keep waking when DD used to wake!

Hope to hear of some more good nights.

Tamdin · 20/09/2007 08:09

excellent news Baz. I can understand your dh's concern as ours is still at full volume even though ds is nearly 20 months but then again i am bit neurotic about ds in general so my advice to you would still be that mid volume would be good so you can get some sleep!

skirmish · 20/09/2007 08:09

morning

ok night here - woke at 9 and 11 briefly and then at 5.40. Decided last night not to give bottle but just 'shush/pat'...lasted about 2 seconds, then into bed with me, and bottle at 6.20, then asleep til 7.30, - so can't complain too much. Just wish he would sleep in the cot in the mornings (though i admit it is nice to have a little cuddle )

Sounds like everyone else is doing well on the sleep front, despite illness/teeth/etc

on the nappy rash front - another tip is to use cotton wool soaked in camomile tea for wiping - supposed to be very calming, though the only thing that worked here was metanium!

Tamdin · 20/09/2007 08:19

morning skirmish glad you had an ok night.
ds always came in with us in the morning which progressed to half the night which is now nearly all night!
most of me loves it and the other part feels i should try and 'fix' it.
will put it off for another while I think.

skirmish · 20/09/2007 08:33

half of me loves it tams, hew takes up a lot less room than dh (currently sleeping in spare room due to bad back) but really need to get sleep issues sorted asap - have another one arriving in 2months!

Tamdin · 20/09/2007 08:36

oh my god you mad woman!
you could just keep dh in the spare room and have 3 in a bed

what age is your ds again?

skirmish · 20/09/2007 08:42

this is where you'll think i am really mad - ds is 10mths!!

Amberjee · 20/09/2007 09:08

wow, RESPECT skirmish!!

gingerninja · 20/09/2007 09:16

skirmish

Pantsy night here DD still poorly.

Anyone watching heros? Last nights episode was so good but there are so many questions.......

Tamdin · 20/09/2007 09:48

skirmish you deserve a medal

ginger i've seen all of season 1 of heroes on scifi channel. it's fantastic!

MegBusset · 20/09/2007 09:59

I love Heroes too, haven't seen last night's yet though!

Skirmish you are brave (or mad).

Crap night for us. Hoping it's just teeth and will pass soon!

EffiePerine · 20/09/2007 10:14

Skirmish

Tam: sorry to hear about DS's tonsilitis. Hope the antibiotics are kicking in.

Ginger: how are you all now?

Baz: fantastic night

We were out yesterday so no chance to clock in - had lunch with DS and DH which was nice. Dreadful night on Tuesday - DS feeding all night it seemed - better last night with one longish stretch. He's going down in the cot at the beginning of the night pretty well, just wants to come in with us when we go to bed .

Tibs: hope the nappy rash has cleared up.
