Grrrr been trying to settle DS2 for half an hour, finally gave up and stuck him on the boob as thought he must be hungry, he's had a few little sucks and is nodding off... Looks like another night of holding him so he sleeps

xxrealistmumxx · 10/01/2018 01:40

dotcottonismyidol the early weeks are rough going. I know it might not help much but most be mum's don't make it out the house for the first couple of months so you're not alone, it takes a long time to heal from birth, especially a difficult one.

Sakura03 · 10/01/2018 02:46

@lyduangel83 same thing happened to a friend of mine, I really f eel for youFlowers
Ds let me sleep 2 hrs 15 minutes before he got restless, he didn’t proper cry but I could just tell it was coming and took him out of his cot. He then made a poo and started crying (which obviously continued once we changed the nappy as per usual)...
@dotcottonismyidol - I’ve got to be out early too tomorrow morning for an appointment at 9.30, I contemplated walking there but that means leaving the house no later than 8.30 am and I don’t think that’s going to happen so will go by taxi I think (tongue tie check).
First feed of the night hoping to return to bed soon but usually we up for at least an hour between sleeps sometimes more....

Sakura03 · 10/01/2018 02:59

Sorry @dotcottonismyidol I meant to say sorry you’re having a hard time, my ds is 8 weeks and although he still feeds a lot it’s not as bad as it was when he fed non stop, it was so tiring and I kept a log of feeds and sleeps like you which was so depressing to look at. I keep saying it will pass, it will get better!

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 10/01/2018 03:13

Hi gang! Checking in for the night shift.

@DotCotton I'm really sorry you are having such a hard time. That feeding chart is insane! You most definitely should not be doing this alone. Could you be honest with MIL and explain that in order to be able to look after her GC, you need rest during the day? My mum is well meaning but just didn't get that I needed to sleep during the day and needed quiet time, she just wanted to chat and go out and do stuff. I've had to be firm with this pregnancy and tell her I'm going to have an afternoon nap and she will need to amuse herself. She's fine with that well I assume she is and I don't feel as guilty leaving her to it. You are right, the amount of sleep you're getting is unsustainable. And your DC should not be your sole responsibility!

I've not mentioned your DH as you seem quite adamant he won't be of use. But could he take DS even just a few hours in the early morning while you sleep? Maybe in the attic bedroom so you get tobavoid the noise?? I'm ebf so DH can't do nights but as he's an early bird he will take DS from 5 on non working days.

Def get your LO checked for reflux issues.

Not toooo bad a night here. DS slept from 9 till 12pm, then another 1 hour 30. Now asleep on me after second feed so going to attempt transfer.

Really suffering with back pain - feeding on bed just isn't good for it but what can you do!

HashtagTired · 10/01/2018 03:29

Hi everyone.
Just a quick check in. I'll catch up the posts later.

He just slept for 4 hours 24 minutes! If I didn't have an app to time him, I wouldn't believe it!! He's never gone that long at night before!

However, I didn't get to enjoy those 264 minutes of delicious sleep because dd woke up several times complaining of pains. I had to wake up dh (on the sofa) to deal with her because I knew that Ds was going to wake any minute. He went 2 hours longer than he normally does.

Good job little man.

I'm off to try and catch up on some more sleepy minutes if I can.

xxrealistmumxx · 10/01/2018 04:04

Wow hashtag that's amazing, so frustrating that you didn't get to take advantage of it. Here's hoping it Kris getting better.
Second feed here, only settled for an hour or so in between, what I wouldn't give for four hours!

Meepmoop · 10/01/2018 05:30

After a horrible start to the night I've managed to get a 4 hour block of sleep in so hopefully that will be enough to keep me going for the day.
DS woke himself up as he rolled onto his stomach but couldn't roll back.

ew1990 · 10/01/2018 05:33

I'm at my wits end, DD woke at 12 and she's still awake! I've fed her twice, changed nappy twice, winded her, rocked her and nothing's working

user1489931797 · 10/01/2018 05:41

Thanks @UtterlyConfused111 really appreciate hearing about your experience

well just over. 24hrs of taking gaviscon in formula and he's regurgitated 2/3times so about half the usual amount and spit up partially digested again about 2/3 times when it's more like 6, however only been 1 poop but in 24hrs not too bad.

Picking up the prescribed formula tomorrow so hopefully will improve things fingers crossed.

Then need to tackle the only sleeping in our arms issueConfused

HashtagTired · 10/01/2018 05:43

He went back to sleep for his normal 2 hour stint which was great. He's now quite awake looking so I think I may be up for the day now. Just trying to send him off with EBLL and boob.

I did managed to settle him off in my arms just now but as he slept I felt a tickley cough creeping up and reached for my drink and took a swig or two. He seemed quite settled so thought I'd nailed it but when I looked down at him in my arms he was wide eyed, staring back at me! Cute, but not what I was after!

He is drifting off but I don't think he's going into a deep enough sleep for a successful transfer.

HashtagTired · 10/01/2018 05:44

@user1489931797 keep an eye on the poo, gaviscon does have a tendency to cause constipation. Sounds like it's helping though!

Meepmoop · 10/01/2018 05:46

He keeps rolling on his stomach! Any ideas on how to stop him? If he could roll himself back over it wouldn't be a problem

xxrealistmumxx · 10/01/2018 07:51

meepmoop will he fall asleep on his stomach then maybe til him back?

DD slept on her tummy from birth. I know it's a big no-no but after having DS1 as such a bad sleeper I was determined to do it differently. Wishing I'd done the same with DS2 as DD slept well!

xxrealistmumxx · 10/01/2018 07:53

Out of curiosity hope who has weaned yet and what effect, if any, has it had on sleep?

Meepmoop · 10/01/2018 08:07

@xxrealistmumxx not sure if I'll be able to get him in his stomach without waking him up. I'll try it tonight.

I've started weaning but only a couple teaspoons a day. Only been a few days so not sure on its effect on sleeping yet.

xxrealistmumxx · 10/01/2018 08:56

How many weeks is DS meepmoop?

I'm in two minds about starting weaning.... On the one hand he's definitely hungrier now, on the other his tummy is rubbish and I'm sure that's what affects his sleep a lot of the time. Though to be honest it may just be that we've developed bad sleep habits from dealing with his reflux

UtterlyConfused111 · 10/01/2018 09:31

Gah. Awake from 2am to 430am. And then dd1 woke up at 6am. Not so bad though I guess; when I think back to the first 6 weeks. It is getting better but so slowly that I can’t tell.
Re weaning and sleep, they say there is no connection but DD1 started to sleep properly shortly after I started weaning at 25 weeks.... happy days :-) it may just have been she was ready to sleep and unrelated to the solids but I choose to think it was the food!
That means if DD2 (15 weeks) follows the same trajectory I may get some sleep in 10 weeks... that’s not so far....

Jellybean2017 · 10/01/2018 09:33

Good night here with only two wake ups between 10 and 5.30. I feel pretty refreshed. We are going for coffee and cakewith some other mums later this morning so DS is having a quick nap on the boob!

DS is five months so starting to think about weaning too. We are hopefully moving house in next month so will probably get started with weaning after that.. Maybe DS will like his own room at the new house... Wishful thinking 😂

Meepmoop · 10/01/2018 09:36

@xxrealistmumxx DS is 25 weeks on Sunday. Little bit before 6 months but he seemed ready for it and is merrily eating what he's had so far

xxrealistmumxx · 10/01/2018 10:15

DS2 only 20 weeks so I guess I should wait a bit longer.

Both my other two weaned before 6 months. DD started grabbing food from my plate at 23weeks!

I don't really think there's any link btwn weaning and sleeping but that doesn't stop me living in hope!

Zampa · 10/01/2018 12:44

DD1 currently refusing to nap! She moved up into the toddler room at nursery yesterday and was exhausted by the end of the day. An earlier night than usual led to wanting to play overnight so not much sleep for her and after an hour of physio this morning, she's exhausted.

Blood curdling screams are emanating from her room but I'm not going in. She needs sleep!

DD2 being very well behaved in comparison!

SleeplessInSc0tlNd · 10/01/2018 12:48

Hi all, mind if I join?

I have 14 week old DS. Had always been quite a good sleeper (10:30pm-5/6am) but since last week he has went back to being like a newborn, waking every hour or two, really unsettled and takes ages to get back to sleep after nighttime feeds! Think it may be the 4 month sleep regression but a few weeks early. He has also started being really fussy between 6-9pm and constantly wants fed (he is ebf) - sound familiar to anyone? I know that it’s probably ‘just a phase’ but after such a period of good sleep it’s really knocked me.

Sakura03 · 10/01/2018 12:51

@HashtagTired and @Meepmoop well done to your lo’s on the sleep!
I had about 5 hrs sleep made up,of two lots so I feel fine. We went out early to a tongue tie drop in and we’re now booked in to have it snipped tomorrow at 2 pm. I’m a little sad that ds has to have it done but also sad that he’s having to work so hard to feed so hopefully it will be worth it.. there was also an osteopath present who did an assessment and concluded that he’s got a tight jaw which restricts him gaping wide so she recommended a couple of sessions.
No walk today as it’s chucking it down with rain...
