As for colds, marjoram ointment applied under the nose is really helpful, apparently.

NinaMarieP · 20/11/2017 16:38

I found snufflebabe oil in warm water really worked for a stuffy nose (it even helped mine) and it’s safe from newborn.

I've decided that having DS and DD is tthe I difficult without a routine. So today I have loosely been following a routine from 'save our sleep' and it's actually gone resonantly well for the first day. He even slept when he was meant to which was odd as I struggle to get him tonbap usually. We'll see how it effects tonight. As for bedtime, we have had a routine for the last two weeks. It starts at 1815, bath, change of clothes, bottle of expressed by daddy and then swaddled to sleep. That's usually finished by about 1920. He then stays with daddy in his man cave in The dark (while he plays PlayStation - at 37!!) until around 2300 when he's out in my bedroom. I then deal with night time.

During DS bedtime routine I do DD's routine which has been the same for her since around 3 months old. So hopefully by the time DH goes back to work they will be in sink a bit at least??

Jellybean2017 · 20/11/2017 17:03

The osteopath couldn't do much for us as DS wouldn't stop screaming! May take him back if we can get reflux medication right. Little rascals making us look like we are imagining things!

My DS tends to have quite a weak whingey cry when tired. I always think his shrieking screamy cry is linked to pain. But could be wrong!

What does Save our Sleep involve @Toonew?

@AMagdalena yes tried both meds too but made no difference so I stopped.

Met someone today who had baby sleeping through from 10 weeks :( :(

HashtagTired · 20/11/2017 18:05

@AMagdalena yes to cranial osteopath. I remember a midwife once telling me that babies born via assisted delivery should automatically go and see cranial osteopath. My dd was ventouse and it helped with her and would do it again if I felt I needed to. I haven’t had the same problems with Ds.

yolkybokey · 20/11/2017 18:10

Hi all, just found the new thread!

DS is 14 weeks on Thursday and seems to be going through a bit of a sleep regression. He hasn't done longer than 2 hours sleep in a row for a good few days now and I'm really feeling it...We co sleep so the wake ups aren't too bad (never much longer than 10 mins) but still hard. I'm doing around 4-5 night feeds right now.

In terms of routine, I've been trying giving him his bath at around 1800 with the idea of going to bed at 2000, this has had limited success. He's currently asleep on my chest! Confused

AMagdalena · 20/11/2017 18:49

@Jellybean Your poor DS! Hopefully he will outgrow his reflux sooner rather than later and will settle down.

@Hashtag How did it help with your DD? Was she more settled?
I have thought about taking my DD, but I am sure DH already thinks I am bonkers and looking for things wrong with DD.

Toonewtobehaving2 · 20/11/2017 19:15

@jellybean2017 - it's basically just a guide (well I use it like that) as to when to feed, when they should be tired, when to wake etc.i roughly followed it with my DD so thought I'd give it a go with DS. I need structure and routine. However the author promotes 'self settle' which is a version of Controlled crying from birth. I'm not following that part. I don't judge anyone who does as this parent malarkey is hard work, but I feel 5 weeks is to young. I'll probably give that ago around 12-16 weeks like I did with DD. She took to it fine and still sleeps well on her own. Even tonight with a stonker of a cold she asked for milk and night nights 😍

Jellybabie3 · 20/11/2017 19:30

@HashtagTired i would also be interested in How the osteopathy helped. I have taken my DS to two sessions. The first they helped him look right round to the left which was brilliant. He had a stiff neck after being squashed against my pelvis during 3 day labour and failed forceps. The last one the osteopath was concentrating on trying to help his wind problem. Thing is saturday was a howler so cant see it's done much for that. I have a session thursday but i am sceptical how it will help and i can't really afford to waste the money. Hv told me to stop as i have 4 x free massage classes coming up at home but of course i dont want to cancel if it can in fact help. Toughy!!

HashtagTired · 20/11/2017 19:44

Tricky indeed.
It was 5 years ago for my dd. I remember she had terrible colic. Crying/screaming every evening and really unsettled. Wouldn’t be put down and up all hours. I went to see a cranial osteopath as someone I knew suggested it. I don’t really remember what exactly they did or what the problem was but I had 2 sessions. The first to review and treat, the second to follow up. We didn’t need anymore sessions as her screaming died down so much and we saw such an improvement. The more people I talked to about it, the more I had heard good things about CO in general. A sceptical person might say she grew out of the colic phase, and I guess we will never know. But if ds was a screaming baby, I’d definitely do it again with him.

As for massage, I do that now with ds (and did it with dd). I’d recommend it anyway as it’s just good bonding. I haven’t seen any improvement in his wind by doing it, but he tends to poo within 24 hours of a massage so I think it’s doing some good!!

Jellybabie3 · 20/11/2017 20:17

Great thank @HashtagTired. I will go this next one and take it from there. I have heard such good things too that I dont want to give in one too soon.

You must be gearing up for your sleep Smile hope you get some rest in.

AMagdalena · 20/11/2017 20:21

@Hashtag thank you! Will have to discuss with DH. I do think the ventouse could have affected DD. I was pushing for 2 hrs and she wouldn't come out 🙈

AMagdalena · 20/11/2017 20:22

Not feeling it tonight! But do I ever 😂

HashtagTired · 20/11/2017 20:24

Yep. In bed and just about to get some shut eye.
Dd has been good as gold tonight and gone to bed quietly. Phew.
I’ll be checking in around midnight. Night all!

Jellybean2017 · 20/11/2017 21:09

We have had our usual screamathon from DS this evening and all day really In bed feeding and hoping he falls asleep! Good luck everyone 😊🍀

Feed #1 here we go. He seems to be properly awake and we’re on the high yield boob so hoping we can just feed from here and not need a top up. We shall see.

How do folks move from two high feeds to the mythical single one? Sounds like heaven but don’t quite believe in it. Like Santa I guess.

AMagdalena · 20/11/2017 21:15

GingerHanna What do you mean by ome feed? Shock As in one feed in an night? Unthinkable in this household at 16 weeks pp.

GingerHanna · 20/11/2017 21:19

One deep night sleep. So just one between late evening (say 22:00) and early morning (say 07:00). Right now I have two between that period and according to Gina Ford should be able to move to just one but I do not get how!!!

GingerHanna · 20/11/2017 21:20

DS isn’t three weeks old, although was three weeks early so three days adjusted!

Jellybean2017 · 20/11/2017 21:22

We still do at least three night feeds at 15 weeks... 🙈

OP posts:
sleepycat13 · 20/11/2017 21:36

yep @GingerHanna ds 7 weeks and we do about 2-3 feeds between that period for us. up until about 6 weeks he was walking every hour or so.

NinaMarieP · 20/11/2017 21:47

I’m back in a one feed phase (bedtime feed around 6 or 7, then one at 2 or 3, then another at 6 or 7.

But that’s entirely his doing and nothing at all to do with me, I just accept it gratefully and pray he didn’t go back to 6/7,12,4,7.

GingerHanna · 20/11/2017 21:51

Ahhh right. So totally variable and I should be grateful it’s not worse!

We’re currently on 9/10, 12/1, 3/4 and 6/7. Reading Gina Ford who talks about the 12/1 and 3/4 merging into one at around 2am and wondering how the hell that happens?!

Ceesadoo · 20/11/2017 22:17

@NinaMarieP Thank you! Need to get some of that x
