I start the “routine” at 8.15 and go to bed with baby at 9. I don’t think they know what is going on yet however and still on 24hr cycles.

Jellybean2017 · 20/11/2017 12:38

Yep I go to bed with the baby at about 8.30; as lallypopstick said it's a case of trying to maximise the amount of sleep I can get so early bedtime is needed. Plus DS won't sleep without me 🙈

@Lovingtyrells My DD woke up due tp her reflux last night, too. I do think it's part of the problem.

theotherendofthesockportal yes, I do go to bed at the same time. Otherwise I wouldn't get enough sleep.

Lovingtyrells · 20/11/2017 12:47

@AMagdalena I definitely think it makes things worse as must associate being uncomfortable and waking up with not sleeping on us / next to us. Also very disruptive to them trying a longer stretch :(

Jellybabie3 · 20/11/2017 12:57

My DS has his bath at 7pm or if/when awake. Then a massage and feed. I usually give to dh while i shower. I then sit in bed and watch tv for bit. His 'first feed' and put down is then about 10-11pm when i will try to sleep. I dose off alot watching tv though.

AMagdalena · 20/11/2017 13:10

@Lovingtyrells Is your LO on medication at all? DD is on ranitidine and am really not sure whether it's making any difference at all. Yesterday was particularly bad vomit-wise.
Can't wait till it settles down. I am sure DD will sleep better then.

Regarding a routine, I should also add it makes absolutely no bloody difference to how long DD sleeps for Grin. The routine is more for me than her.

GinUnicorn · 20/11/2017 13:11

New thread! So tired from last night. Thinking about changing to next to me cot soon

Jellybean2017 · 20/11/2017 13:37

@AMagdalena my DS was on gaviscon and then ranitidine for silent reflux. Neither helped so I have pushed and pushed for a referral to paediatrician next month. GP has finally agreed!

OP posts:
AMagdalena · 20/11/2017 13:54

@Jellybean We never tried gaviscon as DD wouldn't take a bottle (and she struggles with constipation enough as it is). We're waiting for our GP to call us back, so we might push for a referral, too. DD has been putting weight on, but i do think she should be putting more on considering frequency of her feeds!
I also think reflux is a major factor in her sleep troubles.
Having said that I am reluctant to put her on medication with side effects that would be greater than very minor, but such probably don't exist!

Jellybabie3 · 20/11/2017 14:41

All, do any of you carry your baby on your back? Or do you know what age can you even do this? Hv recommended it today as a means of getting on with stuff about the house but I'm not sure. I have a front carrier but its obviously still tricky if i need to do Ironing for example. Ds is 6 weeks old and velcro.

Btw i know i dont HAVE to do Ironing, its just if i wanted to do stuff about the house/at times of crisis

sleepycat13 · 20/11/2017 14:54

@Jellybabie3 have you got a local sling library you could pop to for advice re back carrying? it is my understanding that most back carriers arnt suitable for newborns but there may be some out there that might suit. you might also find a front carrier that works for you both if you don't already have one

Jellybabie3 · 20/11/2017 15:17

Great idwa sleepycat thanks

Jellybabie3 · 20/11/2017 15:17

Idea even!

AMagdalena · 20/11/2017 15:29

As far as I know back carrying isn't recommended for newborns. I personally wouldn't either as you can't keep an eye on your baby while it's on your back.
What I do if I need to iron is put DD on her playmat near me and iron while she kicks away. Your LO will be old enough for this in a couple of weeks :)

Ceesadoo · 20/11/2017 15:46

Any tips for surviving a baby’s first cold? I’m finding it so difficult to watch him struggle. 😐

Ceesadoo · 20/11/2017 15:48

Also I don’t think it’s safe to carry newborns on your back. Probably safe once they are at least 6+ and strong of neck and back etc

Ceesadoo · 20/11/2017 15:48

Admire you for even contemplating housework at 6 weeks.

Jellybabie3 · 20/11/2017 15:52

Smile doc sign off tomorrow as I had an emcs so as sad as it is I want to do some normal stuff when I get the OK. Doesnt mean I will do it all the time more likely I will tell DH DS is having a bad day while snuggling on the couch

Jellybean2017 · 20/11/2017 15:56

@AMagdalena our babies sound very similar. Gaviscon made DS projectile vomit 😔 ranitidine didn't make any difference. GPs are quite dismissive if baby is gaining well and reaching milestones. They don't seem to care about the almost consistent crying and sleep problems. We saw three different GPs. At all appointments DS was the perfect baby, cooing and smiling! So the doctors just think I'm neurotic I think. Anyway I took him for osteopathy and after they had spent a couple of hours seeing what he is like they said they wanted to write a letter to GP to suggest referral to paediatrician. So we shall see how it goes!

Jellybabie3 · 20/11/2017 15:57

@Ceesadoo i haven't had to deal with a cold yet but feel for you!

Jellybean2017 · 20/11/2017 16:03

@ceesadoo we have had a few colds. Try taking baby into bathroom when it's steamy from shower. And saline drops for their little nose. I can give my DS Calpol now but think they have to be three months.

Jellybean2017 · 20/11/2017 16:05

@Jellybabie3 I can imagine! It will be nice to do some normal stuff. Just not too much ironing hey 😉

No @Jellybean2017 xmas shopping first Grin

Jellybean2017 · 20/11/2017 16:22

A much better idea! 😊

@Jellybean Did you find the osteopath to by of any help? I have considered it for my DD as she was SO unsettled for the first 2 months. DD was delivered by ventouse and I wonder whether that was a contributing factor and caused her any pain.
And same here, every time we have been to see the GP, she was the perfect child, all smiley and settled.

We've just had a crying outburst and I am not sure whether it was caused by tummy pain or overtiredness. Do any of you ever struggle to tell the difference?
