Sleepyhead in a moses? Doable? Or on the floor? Or in babybox?

Ive just ordered one out of desperation for my unputdownable 2 week old. I cant afford/justify a bedside crib aswell. Does it go on the floor at night? Will it fit in moses? Or i have a baby box. I know its safe in a moses but wondering if anyone found one it fits? Ours was a gift from grandma so dont want to bin.

Do you have a cot yet? I’m going to not bother with the Moses basket this time and pop them in the cot straight away. My nephews were huge so my sister had to put them in straight away and she didn’t have to teach them to settle in two different environments.

Sorry you are finding it hard to settle your baby.
I wouldn’t advice any sleep cushion.
See lullaby trust guidance on safe sleeping. Risk of SIDS
A baby of two weeks should settle if not hungry, nappy changed, etc.
Try swaddling (below shoulders and use a light Muslim , so no risk of overheating).
1.Swaddle
2.Place baby in the crib or Moses basket.

Sit with baby with your hands on his/her.
Don’t talk other than shush
No eye contact

He or she may cry a little - but you will find they will settle to sleep after short while. The more you put them down the easier it will become. Also worth considering silent Reflux. (Google) Try elevating head or crib - see if it helps. Is baby still hungry ? It’s most common reason for a baby that age not sleeping.

Wild telling a new mum her baby should settle isn't very helpful. My first baby wouldn't sleep anywhere except on me, and it drove me crackers (literally, I was very unwell) and I would have bought anything to help if I'd had the money. I was lucky in that my second baby has always slept well on his own. Both treated the same way. Sometimes it's just the baby being a pain.

OP. Put the Sleepyhead in a cot

wild sorry but I don't think that is helpful. Some babies just won't be put down. I didn't have one of them which I was thankful for every single day as I knew from friends just how hard it was.

In mine and my friends experiences many babies hate Moses baskets. I went straight to a full size cot next to the bed with a sleepyhead type cushion (I used one called a purflo nest).

Ok cot is in nursery as its quite big. Was hoping he would stay with us for 6 months. Says online floor is ok but seems wierd

You sound a bit emotionally attached to the Moses basket OP. But for large swathes of parents, Moses basket look pretty but are unpractical and therefore have limited use.

I'd suggest moving the Moses basket downstairs and trying it for daytime naps if you want to (although daytime naps in a bouncer are better). At least you get to see the heirloom every day then.

Upstairs, I'd suggest moving your full sized cot into your room, next to your bed. You must have one? If not, you will need one so it's not going to be a wasted purchase.

Then when building it from flat pack, don't attach one of the long sides. This 3-sided cot is then a full sized bedside cot. You can put the sleepyhead in there.

Cost and cotbeds are a standard size. Clothes are the biggest (and make the best sidecar crib).

Can you move a chest of drawers out of your bedroom into the nursery? Or move your bedside takes away? Take a dressing table out?

Basically you want to remove furniture from your bedroom in order to fit the cot next to your bed.

It's what most parents do.

Could your cot not fit in your room? A Moses basket wouldn't last for 6 months.

You could consider a co sleeping cot- the sleepyhead fits well in to the Chicco next to me.

I have looked after dozens of babies. They have all settled. At two weeks the OP has a good chance of getting baby into good sleeping habits. If you just resort to saying oh ‘baby won’t settle ‘ well ofcourse they won’t
The NHS and charity for safe sleeping do not recommend cushions , wedges and sleepy head type nests. There advice is because babies have died using these products.

Not one single child has died from sleeping in a sleepyhead. Really unhelpful, scaremongering 'advice'.

I have a cotbed. Can measure i guess although wouldbe against a radiator and below a window....

I think the baby box could be big enough. Is that not good idea? No diff to a side sleeper but lower

@Wildaboutoscar you’ve looked after dozens of babies which is fine (are you Gina Ford with a name change ) but you’re essentially advocating letting a 2 week old baby cry which is not advisable anymore (not to mention cruel).

Sleepyheads have been safety tested OP so please don’t follow this outdated advice.

As PPs have said sleepyhead in big cot will probably work better if you can get the cot next to your side of the bed xx

Jellybabie3, you're still in that phase where you have all of these imagined possibilities of what life with a baby would be like... and then realities hit.

Next to a radiator isn't a problem if you switch it off or cover it. Or rearrange your bedroom furniture.

Baby is unlikely to fit in a baby box or Moses basket for many weeks anyway. Try to fit their in your room.

I have a next2u with Sleepy head instead. I have a Moses basket downstairs but the Sleepy head wouldn't fit in it

I didnt mean to be harsh with you personally Jellybabie3. Just that the mega steep learning curve of the first 6 months with your first child is exceptionally harsh. It is. For everyone, so go easy on yourself

Yeah i am getting that. I just want a little sleep. Not expecting 8 hours just at the mo i cant put him down to sleep for a couple unbroken through the night. Im exhausted. If that makes me naive sobeit. I learn from him everyday. Just trying to get some rest so i can love him and think rationally every so often rather than be wound up and dangerously tired
