Sleepyhead in a moses? Doable? Or on the floor? Or in babybox?

Ive just ordered one out of desperation for my unputdownable 2 week old. I cant afford/justify a bedside crib aswell. Does it go on the floor at night? Will it fit in moses? Or i have a baby box. I know its safe in a moses but wondering if anyone found one it fits? Ours was a gift from grandma so dont want to bin.

Sleepyhead worked for my baby who wouldn't be put down, brilliant. It went on the floor in the living room for day time naps, and in the middle of our bed or his cot at night.

Hope you get some sleep OP!

I have a ewan the dream sheep which helps if he is 97% asleep....just enough to stop him waking back up. Other wise its like settling a land mine. One false move and another hour of feeding and settling....

I LOVED our sleepyhead. I bought a cheap wooden crib to put it in beside my bed. That or a £20 travelcot would work.

Hugepeppapigfan · 23/10/2017 22:34

Also Ewan is amazing

Hugepeppapigfan · 23/10/2017 22:34

Sorry I ignored your original question! No the sleepyhead won’t fit inside a Moses.

crazycatlady5 · 24/10/2017 11:00

How was last night op? How are you feeling?

Jellybabie3 · 24/10/2017 15:43

He slept really well last night. Went to sleep same time as us and woke every 2-3 hours thereafter.

Sleepyhead has arrived and fits tightly into baby box. Do you think thats OK??

Not at newborn, but we put our daughter in the sleepyhead on the floor on holiday where the hotels didn't have cots, she was fine.

Jellybabie3 · 24/10/2017 15:56

Whys that?

I think that's fine Jellybaby - just maybe check that your baby isn't too warm. My baby gets quite hot in her sleepyhead.

Btw I have used it on the floor with a blanket underneath as a travel cot.

Finally - if you can cover the sleepyhead with a cot sheet or large muslin. The spare covers are £££ and a complete pain to change, especially in the middle of the night.

Hang in there. My first baby was just the same and it drove me to the brink. It will get better Flowers

Thanks fleur

The dimensions of the sleepyhead are 46cm x 75cm. I have just googled several brands of baby box and all are smaller than this. Maybe yours has bigger dimensions?

You should not squish the sleepyhead into a smaller space than it needs. This would be dangerous.

Jellybabie3 · 24/10/2017 16:12

thanks, i have put a large muslin over it. DD still woke up and cried after a few mins in it though.....i hope i dont have the ONLY baby in Britain that doesnt like the sleepyhead......

OP posts:
Jellybabie3 · 24/10/2017 16:14

Its not squished its tight. Why would that make it dangerous? My baby box was via the baby box university

Fingers crossed she gets used to it OP, maybe when it smells more like her or you

Jellybabie3 · 24/10/2017 16:17

Oh god i said DD, i meant DS Confused

FATEdestiny · 24/10/2017 16:20

Why would that make it dangerous?

You don't want loose or creased material under baby, on the base. And you don't want the cushion sides closer to baby than they could be, for risk of suffocation.

If your baby box has dimensions equal to or bigger than 46cm x 75cm then it's fine.

august1 · 24/10/2017 16:26

I used to put a hot water bottle in the sleepyhead for a few mins so it was more similar to the warmth of my body. Seemed to be less of a shock when putting baby in.

Jellybabie3 · 24/10/2017 16:33

Ah ok thanks. I do that with the moses.

Will measure box. If it's too small i will just have to use sleepyhead for day naps on the floor. Thanks.

2cm too short Angry

Lallypopstick · 24/10/2017 16:47

Can’t you put the sleepyhead in bed with you?

FATEdestiny · 24/10/2017 16:48

2cm too short

I wouldn't, it's up to you though. Everyone balances risk/desperation differently.

Why don't you just get the cot in your bedroom and take one side off? Then sleepyhead in there. It's a much easier solution.

Baby is not going to fit in sleepyhead in babybox for very long anyway, so you will need to accommodate sleeping in the same room as the cot because it'll probably be way before 6 months.

Also, won't bending down to a baby box on the floor be very difficult through the night?

Jellybabie3 · 24/10/2017 16:54

Yeah i was thinking that as i have had c section. DH gets grumpy if i so much as twist or turn too quickly. Not sure cotbed will fit by the side of the bed but we could consider a travel cot.

OP posts:
crazycatlady5 · 24/10/2017 16:56

Please don’t worry about baby not immediately settling in th SH. It’s not a magic solution, it’s just very helpful. He still will want to be near you most of the time so a lot of it will be trial and error, edging down slowly to put baby down, holding tight while still putting down etc. You will get there. I definitely think the easy option for you will be side off the cot, at this same level as you matress, with the sleepyhead in. Or next to you in bed. If the sleepyhead seems ok in the baby box that’s fine, it really is only you that can say for sure. 2 cm is a very small amount so it depends if you think it’s snug or squished x

FATEdestiny · 24/10/2017 16:58

The travel cot still has a very low mattress base. Still lots of bending. Possibly worse because you'll have to bend and stretch at the hips to reach down, rather than bending at the knees to a baby box.

Travel cot is a worse idea then the baby box imo, from a practical point of view.

If you are able to shift furniture to fit the cot (cot mattress on highest setting) next to your bed, you won't even need to get out of bed to deal with baby. With a side off the cot, you can do it all while lying down in bed and just slide baby over. Much, much easier.
