Another thread. My didn't we get full quickly! night sleeping good. Naps...not even 5 mins so far today...

Another one here wondering about gradual withdrawal when they are in the same room.

Our trick with offering formula did not work last night Before when we did it, I slept in the guest room as I was totally exhausted. Last night, it seemed that ds2 knew I was still available, so only took a little formula from dh then demanded to be bf anyway.

So, every two hours again

MaeBee · 08/05/2007 16:28

hello all! just got a few minutes while the lo naps upstairs. he really genuinely is teething now! (got one broken through the gum....does anyone know about how long it takes for the 2nd to appear? i hear they come in pairs?)

anyway, nights are kind of the same as they have been since doing PUPD. we still do it. he only wakes twice on good nights (about a third of the time), usually around 2, but after ive given him a night feed. he often wakes more like 1 and then 4 the rest of the time. but he does do that amazing thing of playing on his own for about 30 mins to an hour in the morning so we get to sleep sometimes til 7! and he does go for naps in his cot twice or three times a day, but these are sometimes only 30 mins.

so its okay, but we arent at the sleeping through the night stage. were off on holiday next week which im kind of dreading!

which makes me ask a question: we are going on an 11 hr train journey to get there.....any tips!? he's 7 mths now, and is crawling really fast, and has just started cruising! has anyone else done public transport for long journeys with a baby? and what do you do about sleep?!? we went on a long one many months ago, but in those days he could sleep in public and just snoozed in my arms.

Amberjee · 08/05/2007 18:21

arrrrgh, my LO refused to have a nap at all this afternoon and has been screaming on and off since 4 and i could not get him to sleep in any manner. he finally fell asleep in the sling after fighting closing his eyes for ages, so i'm attempting to make dinner preparations with him there, but my back has been aching today for some reason, maybe i slept funny or something. not fun.

am dreading putting him to bed tonight now after this afternoon's performance and DH has to work late after the long weekend (he also took friday off). the last few nights he's been waking up every 1-2 hours, i think if he does this tonight, i'll be in tears tomorrow i feel so tired already. blerrrghhhh. okay there's my rant for the evening. i hope everyone else is faring somewhat better today.

jabberwocky · 08/05/2007 18:40

Maebee - no hints on the train ride, I'm afraid.

Amberjee - yikes! I would try to go to sleep as soon as she does no matter how early as she may be particularly unsettled tonight. I am a believer of good napping = good sleeping although it can be hard to tell with ds2.

Amberjee · 08/05/2007 18:48

jaber, yeah i try to just eat dinner and then get to bed, usually around 8.30 or so, that's the only way i can survive these horrid nights. the napping is getting better in general, but the afternoon nap is always full of fights. today it just couldn't be done. i'm about to wake him now to do bath routine, feed etc. wish me luck! maybe it will be smooth sailing and i'll have been worrying about nothing.

Swizzler · 08/05/2007 18:55

Amber: here's hoping for a good night for you.

Good news for us: DH got DS to nap in his cot this afternoon for over an hour! Let's hope this continues and we may stay sane . Nights still pretty grim though.

Feel much better for having though 'sod it' and napping with DS in the afternoons on my day off. Feel like I've made up a little of my (massive) sleep deficit.

Swizzler · 08/05/2007 18:58

Mae: DS naps pretty well on the train ifwe keep him in his buggy (on some trains you can park it in the disabled/cycle bit - check with the company). Or could you stick him in a car seat for his naps during the journey? I thnk the noise and motion of the train are quite soothing.

MaeWest · 08/05/2007 19:25

Swizzler - I sometimes nap with DS too in the afternoons. It's rather lovely to be cuddled up with a nice warm baby

jabberwocky · 08/05/2007 19:28

Oh yes! I nap with ds2 in the afternoon every chance I get. It gives me hope that I will be able to survive the night.

Amberjee · 08/05/2007 19:50

me too, napped when DS went back to bed this morning for an hour.
well, he screamed through the bath and getting dressed for bed but then fed himself into oblivion but lets see what tonight holds...

Tamdin · 08/05/2007 19:55

have done quite a few domestic flights with ds and he has always gone to sleep on my knee. def think as mentioned previously the motion and noise helps.
he's gone down very easily tonight (10 mins for start to finish)so fingers crossed that's how the night will go. who knows
redbeki sorry i wasn't around ealier when you replied. keep repeating the SIFTW mantra 'it's only a phase'. can you nap together during the day?
ds won't do that with me anymore
he'll be 16 months at the end of may. where did my baby boy go
Time for another one ..... yeah right

redbeki · 08/05/2007 22:01

Tamdin-I'm hoping it's only a phase .I just can't sleep in the day.Too much to do most days.
I can't understand why she seems so wide awake for so long in the middle of the night. She's never really done this before, maybe it will stop as sudden as it started last week?
Thanks for your support.we'll see what tonight brings.

Amberjee · 09/05/2007 08:58

redbeki, hope your night was a little better. who knows why our LOs keep doing what they do. i guess there's so much development doing on, physically and mentally, and it must disrupt sleep a lot of times. i try to nap in the day (to hell with dishes and washing!), but LO usually only naps for 45 mins, so by the time i settle him, get to bed myself and fall asleep he is already awake, so not really a lot of point.

good news though, after his major breakdown all afternoon, he only woke up twice in the night 12.30 and 4, and then woke at 6.45 this morning very happy chattering away in his cot. ah, bliss!

tibsy · 09/05/2007 10:10

morning all lovely ladies!!
sorry to hear all of the aaaarrrghhhs
hope you all had better nights
amber yey for yours, you deserve it. hows the course going? am off to bfing group soon, so will enquire as to what we're doing for bf week
tam, i didnt get a book on GR, just printed out the guide on the link i put in and have been 'loosely' following it! seems to be doing the trick, i guess the time was right i think the supper is helping too. keeps her satisfied for longer. still not sleeping through but going for 8 hr stretches. that'll ding dang do for me!!!!
hope everyone has a good day

tibsy · 09/05/2007 10:12

maebee, dd has just got 2 breaking through the gum at the same time!! its exciting isnt it?! we've only been waiting 8 1/2 months

redbeki · 09/05/2007 11:05

Amberjee, was a bit better thanks for words of wisdom.Feel slightly less aaaarrrhhhh.
hope you all had more rest too.

Tamdin · 09/05/2007 13:22

late posting as have been to playgroup this morning. ds went to bed easy peasey last night and woke at 4.15!! now if only he'd managed another hour and 3/4 and that would have been his first through the night wouldn't it he downed 7oz milk and went back to sleep until 7. so that'll ding dang do for me too!

Amberjee · 09/05/2007 14:43

yay tibsy and tamdin, that sounds very promising! we've had a lovely day with me not feeling horribly tired for once. LO has really started squealing at the top of his voice. its quite amusing.

Swizzler · 09/05/2007 15:29

Great news on better nights . DS woke a few times but managed to feed at 11, 3 and 5ish. Now I just have to get him to stop waking in between

2 good naps today (1 hr+). Hope everyone else is having a good day.

tibsy · 09/05/2007 19:46

glad redbeki that you're feeling better and swizz for those 1 hr naps

tibsy · 09/05/2007 19:47

night all lovely ladies, lets hope its a peaceful and restful one

Amberjee · 09/05/2007 19:48

that's great tibs - is it being run by breastfeeding network? its great that there is a lot of mum to mum support going on. i'm really enjoying it. its a really great bunch of women too.

Amberjee · 09/05/2007 19:50

tibs - its funny, LO just went all high pitched over night. he discovered it and now he's practicing, practicing, practicing. i had to take him to the passport office today and he was hilarious - so loud. he also did a huge poo and i had to change him on the floor where i was, as they didn't have any bathroom facilities at all and i didn't want to leave the 2 hour queue!

tibsy · 09/05/2007 20:55

amber, forgot to ask who its run by, was so excited!!!!
lol at lo and the poo, dont blame you about not leaving the queue tho!
i love it when they get so excited cos they can make sounds. its just SOOOOOOO cute

redbeki · 09/05/2007 22:00
