hi ladies, the other one ran out of space, so if no one else starts a new thread, here it is....

OP posts:
Swizzler · 17/03/2007 07:34

Amber: how old is your LO? Sometimes, sorting out daytime naps can help with sleeping at night (counterinuitive I know). Does napping in the pram work? Side effect of this is that I've nearly lost all my baby weight from walking miles every day

Swizzler · 17/03/2007 07:34

Cruise: yes, stern talking to on the need for a lie-on Mother's day might work

MaeBee · 17/03/2007 07:37

amberjee, you are right, we have some breed of superbabies! x-babies! their powers are not needing sleep and somehow getting their parents to love them nonetheless.
night from hell last night. drugged him up reluctantly at 9, as he just wouldnt be put down again, and it didnt really work the way i hoped (medised this is). tried again at 12, but he took an hr and a half to go back off, and only would sleep in arms. his dads luckily for me, and then we swapped at 4ish.
we are all grumpy and tired this morning. did have big countryside plans but all i want is sleep.
does anyone else wake up feeling sick cos they are so tired?
we are seriously considering going down the controlled crying route before we have breakdowns.

Swizzler · 17/03/2007 08:05

Maebee: Medised sometimes won't work for DS either. How much are you giving? I've started giving over 2.5 ml as DS is a big baby - seems to help.

Hope you get some sleep in today.

bampa · 17/03/2007 09:04

maebee for your sleepless days/nights. Have you read ncss? i've been implementing it all week and it's working! My ds a toddler so prob much easier as i think they 'get it' a bit more but even if you got one top tip from it it might be worth a read. x

LEMONADEGIRL · 17/03/2007 09:04

Hi all,

I so agree with the superbaby comment
Not getting any better here either, ds woke 1am, 3;30am and 5ish, would not go back to sleep so dh tried to sleep with him. Only thing was ds thought it was play time, flaying arms and legs all around. He seemed almost hyperactive!!!

Have not introduced dream feed, just carrying on as normal - thanks for comments x

Oh well another day, perhaps I might get a decent night tonight

LEMONADEGIRL · 17/03/2007 09:22

forgot to add that ds also doesn't really nap during day and certainly not in his cot. He will be asleep in my arms after bf and will creep upstairs place him in cot and he wakes!! However place him on playmat in room with radio/ tv on, he sleeps for about 30 mins...

tibsy · 17/03/2007 09:56

morning ladies one and all and lovely buddha bubbas too!

maebee - poor lo. dd has eczema, although quite mildly thankfully and very clear atm. fingers x'd that will last. it has definitely been affecting her sleep tho as she scratches it like mad when she gets tired, ditto if she gets worked up and/or overheated. medised just made her hyper

bampa - hope you had a nice evening with dh and a good nights sleep too!

cruise - dont know what my friends trick was, if i knew, i'd bottle it and sell it! you lot could have it for free of course

new breed of superbaby, i like that!!!!

swizzler - apparently it does take lo's a few weeks to adjust to starting solids. i suppose it takes a while for the digestive system to adjust.

we had a crap evening but night was ok, mini feed at 12, then not til 4.45am she was in bed with us, but she was happy

tibsy · 17/03/2007 10:08

lg- another non napper! yee gods. what is it with these lo's? thank god for playmat and tv/radio!!

gingerninja · 17/03/2007 10:43

I'm back after my rather hasty cryptic message the other day. We'd had a bad night with lots of inconsolable tears. Couldn't decide if it was a tummy upset (she'd eaten a fair bit of cauliflower!) or teeth. Anyway. last night was a bit better although wouldn't settle and was in our bed from about 11 waking to feed at 2.30 (!), woke again at some other point, think she was cold so took her out of her gro bag and put her under our quilt and she slept really well.

Welcome youngmum, are you a young mum? I look about a hundred years old since having DD.

Tibsy, good news about the nap. What is it with these little babies they're so cheeky if they can do it for someone else why not us?

Maebee, your poor LO. What are you using other than epaderm? Have you got a steroid to keep it under control? It's probably not my place but please don't do CC until his eczema is under control I know how itchy these things are, i drives you to distraction. I was given piriton by the Dr for DD's eczema and it does knock them out. (Medised had mine bouncing off the walls, must be the e numbers. Have you seen a dermotologist? I asked the Dr to refer us. If you've got bleeding then they could teach you wet wrapping which is supposed to be great for babies and is really soothing.

gingerninja · 17/03/2007 10:46

Lemonaidgirl, have you tried swaddling? I never got on with it but it might help with the flailing arms. My LO did that all the time and I'm sure it kept her awake.

Amberjee · 17/03/2007 10:58

swizzler, he's 10 weeks. daytime naps just don't happen at all. he doesn't fall asleep in the pram. only in my sling. so i try to get him around 5 hours sleep in the day, but whatever i do, its not seeming to help the nights... hmmm.

Amberjee · 17/03/2007 10:59

maebee - this morning i was so tired i felt like vomiting - that was a first. i just lie down with LO on my chest and he started crying but i didn't have the energy to do anything. luckily dp came and rescued!

gingerninja · 17/03/2007 11:00

Amber Good day time naps never make any difference here either!

Amberjee · 17/03/2007 11:36

i just can't understand it - he is so wide awake and in a great mood! i just wish he would sleep. he's a little bit cranky today because of it though...

cruisemum1 · 17/03/2007 12:38

amber - i have felt like that before. was crying in my shopping centre. felt such a nutter . hope you feel better soon.

cruisemum1 · 17/03/2007 12:42

three waking last night. when will it stop . crap naps today too.

LEMONADEGIRL · 17/03/2007 12:50

gn - ds doesn't get on with swaddling unfortunatley, am going to buy gro bag, as currently using sheets & blankets.

Lack of sleep can make me feel really sick sometimes, which isn't good as I hate feeling sick. I also having problems stringing a sentence together and my memory, have invested in a diary, so I do not forget anything...

DH has taken ds out this afternoon, although am tired - am already missing him but have shopping to look forward to...

Hope everyone gets a good night (wishful thinking)

youngmum21 · 17/03/2007 18:56

waves back to swizzler<

Well last nite was slightly better only about for wakings and she didnt need feeding till 5.30 this morning so am hoping to nite there will be a bit more improvement she still has a stuffy nose though so we will just have to wait and see!!!

I hope some of you have a better nite tonite aswell some of you must be exhausted xxx

Hope you all have a great mothers day xx

cruisemum1 · 17/03/2007 19:33

youngmum - you say four wakings but only one feeding. What do you do for the other wakings? my ds only re-settles after a bf even though he is 6 mths, on solids and not hungry. I should call myself old mum!

MaeBee · 17/03/2007 19:51

hi there,
well, although all i wanted to do was sleep, we all went out to the countryside with some friends, and my boy was lovely and was even good in the carseat which is a first! am feeling full of love for him again, although dreading going to bed. hes woken twice already. grrrr.
his excema is only behind his ears, and actually seems to be better already today. been recommended some aveena cream, which i will go and get prescribed on mon i reckon, although this stuff does seem to help. it hasnt bled today and looks much less weepy.
gingerninja - i wont be doing cc until his skin calms down. i dont even know if i have the heart to do it. i do believe it is damaging to babies, BUT i also think us all being so tired is damaging too, and i would be a better mother with some sleep, and he would be a happier baby if his nights werent so disturbed. but not yet, anyway.
will look out a copy of ncss, and try and get some tips. ive read sears and tracey hogg so far, and other unmentionable theorists, that i dont adhere to!
good luck and have a great nights sleep everyone.

youngmum21 · 17/03/2007 20:24

cm- normally i just go put her dummy back in and she will settle back to sleep on her own!

tibsy · 17/03/2007 21:16

dd been asleep for 2 hrs so far and no wakings!! know i'll probably jinx it, but 2 hrs of an evening!!!! AND i let her fall asleep on the boob and took her up to her cot and stayed with her til she was fast asleep, going against everything i have been trying. perhaps she felt more secure cos of that?

LEMONADEGIRL · 17/03/2007 21:25

Fingers crossed for you Tibsy!

We were out visiting friends, ds has gone to bed later than usual with no routine of bath etc.
I just know that my night will be sleepless ....

Swizzler · 17/03/2007 21:33

Good news Tibsy! Hope you're enjoying your evening .

Only 1 waking so far ... fingers crossed for a better night.
