tibsy - oh poor you .... back at work, hungry baby, dh pissed tonight (mine every night so I know how that is ) and your period started! YUCK YUCK YUCK. drink wine

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 20:17

Redbeki - my LO is almost 8 months, a july babe. It must be something in the air, my usually smiley happy baby has been a right crab apple the last couple of days. She has become more demanding. She is still happy, but is quick to winge, cry, get herself in a tizz. Everything from tipping water down her to dropping a toy. Almost inconsolable. She has hardly napped at all today.

Cruise - usually do the same as Tibsy - cuddle her, rock her, maybe offer water, usually cant be bothered. Eventually works, but can sometimes be half hour or so. Sometimes I give in and feed her. Depends what time/how long ago I fed her. I started it as I had little milk left in the morning for her and it seemed to be a vicious circle with the feeding, esp with trying to do bottle too...she will refuse a bottle at night if I offered it.

redbeki · 24/02/2007 20:23

echo cruisemum for you tibsy, and nice chocolate.you sound like you've picked up a bit cruise..I haven't done the no b.feeding at night thing yet,but my lo has quite a bit of formula in the day,and in the middle of night she always just goes straight back to sleep on boob.I think I'll keep doing that until she doesn't want to instead of forcing the issue.I must stay off the diet cokes though,I'll have to have my southern comfort with something else!

redbeki · 24/02/2007 20:31

I'm so jealous of you pav for having a july baby.My lo is 6th sept and will be the oldest in the year, good in a way but too close for comfort.A friend of mine is 13 weeks pregnant and due on 26th August, and my lo is nearly 6 months, but they'll be in the same school year!Sorry , i know it's ridiculous to go on about such things.I really wish she'd have been born a week before!Bad timing ,the story of my life. She's a peach though so no regrets, just wish she would bl**dy sleep.

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 20:34

I meant to ask Cruise actually, how you feeling, sorry, having a shit one myself so being a bit selfish...

cruisemum1 · 24/02/2007 20:35

redbeki - wish mine would sleep too! ds born 7th sept so defo oldest in class.

redbeki · 24/02/2007 20:40

maybe they're kindered spirits cruisemum

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 20:46

July is def a great time to have a Lo, exactly half way thu year, so wont miss out on pressies in summer hols either!
My LO is wonderful too. I just have the odd off day, dont we all. Have perhaps a few more than I would usually right now, I really do think the last few months have probably had an impact on DD, tension and anxieties cant go unrecognised by her I am sure, even though it appears not to have effected her temperament, I have made sure it has not. But she has been dragged across country countless times (and abroad) since before xmas, sleeping in car when she should be playing, awake when she should be going to bed because I have been visiting people, but now things are quiet, no more traipsing any distance for a while...maybe I can get her routine back somehow.

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 20:47

Tibsy - how you finding work with your LO?

gingerninja · 24/02/2007 21:54

God, I can't keep up with this thread it swells by the minute!

Cruise, if helps, my LO is doing exactly the same (same birthday's too) however has so far HATED every bit of food put in front of her and spits it back out (if she actually allows me anywhere near her with it in the first place). I have absolutely no routine. I try to space feeds out to every three hours but when she's due a nap and whinging I give in so it's more like every 2 hours. At night though it's a bit less frequent, I was going to try last night to avoid feeding too but it turned out she only lasted 5 hours then was in bed with us. (I think it was the need to poo that woke her up TBH, she seems to need to suck fingers or boob to do it, weird, anyone else experience that?)

Last night was a PITA as DH was supposed to be on duty however I had to wake him up to see to her which kind of defeats the purpose and he kept asking me what he was supposed to be doing so I may as well have done it myself.

Redbeki, why are you worried about your LO being one of the oldest in the class? Mine was born on 7th Sept so will also be. I was always one of the oldest and thinking about all those I know that were either 'older' or 'younger' the older ones had the confident edge.

Tibsy, yours sounds exactly like mine was until about two weeks ago. She's started to get better now but that 'seemed to last forever.

I listen to these people who say, my LO slept through from 6 weeks and I wonder what on earth they do that's different. I honestly haven't got a clue what makes their LO's sleep and ours not. I just assumed FF babies slept better but when I'm told by bf friends that their LO's sleep I absolutely dispair. Why on earth do some kids sleep and others not? I guess that's the question that, if we could answer, would make us a fortune. I just have not got a clue.

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 22:03

Ginger - lol, my LO always had to suckle to poop. She used to make grunting noises, go red in the face. Always! Now, though. Egg...dont go there...

kiera · 24/02/2007 22:28

hello everyone

sorry have been a bit quiet, cried at playgroup on thurs and had a v stressful day on friday, made the mistake of staying up till 12am then trying to do all the night feeds to "give dh a rest"!?!? ended up with zero tolerance friday morning and a lo who would not nap. rang dh all stressed out, he felt so sorry for me (or feared for his kids with a mad woman for a mummy!) so he took a half day and took the kids out for a few hours to give me a break it was tempting to rush round and do housework like I usually do (I'm with you on that one ginger/tibsey - makes me feel better to have a clean house) but I thought sod it and poured myself a large Baileys and got caught up on my DVDs then today I was at work. last night was better - dh gave a bottle at 12, I bfed him at around 3.45am then he went till 7.30am dh and I trying to sleep and ignore ds1 who came in at 6am - poor little lad!

ginger - how did it go last night? I had a look at the website too but I agree my brain is too fried to do anything too complicated! I want an quick & easy solution!

cruise - dh made me leave lo to cio for his nap on friday, it took 3/4 hour but he did sleep and has slept better ever since so either he had got dependent on bfeed to sleep again and needed to get out of the habit or it was just a coincidence. or a growth spurt. or none of the above! it's awful but it may be the only way...I have to be so careful not to let him bfeed to sleep as they get back into bad habits so quick.

redbeki/pavlov - haven't tried the rice yet as been at work today. also am still not sure whether he is hungry or just trying to bfeed to sleep. will give it a few days and see. wow at pork, pavlov! must say lo was rather eyeing up our chicken curry this evening...lol at your dp...lol at suckle to poop!

genlay - nestle crunch the other side of the world - why? whyyyyyyyyyy? aaaargh!!! I even wrote to them and they said it was being discontinued due to lack of sale will check out the co-op one

tibsey - yes my lo wakes more frequently when with me, too much of a temptation lying next to the boobs I guess! I feed him sitting up in his room now which sounds like hard work but he only takes a few mins to feed and goes for longer as a result so it's been worth it.

kiera · 24/02/2007 22:37

PS Cruise - did not mean to sound dismissive about pu/pd or cio like it is so easy, it isn't, and I have dh helping me...and I know how stressed I get to hear lo cry it is the worst thing ever...I'm sorry for not remembering but have you tried ncss? i read in the baby whisperer that they cry because they are frustrated because they want to get to sleep and can't because they don't know how to without you - not because they feel abandoned by you/etc - esp if you stay in the room with them. but what helped me was that is also said being able to settle themselves to sleep is the greatest gift you can give a child but they have to be taught (by cio or pu/pd or ncss or whatever), they don't do it by themselves. this helped me to view it more positively. i thought babies just slept i had forgotten that you have to teach them how, we had to do this with ds1 also but it worked and he got to be a v good sleeper in the end. i'm rambling (must go to bed) but hth and hope I don't sound patronising or whatever. hugs to you {{{{{{{{{{{{{{cruise}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 22:39

what are your thoughts on LOs being in another room, anyone have LO in their own room yet. I been told off by many who said I have made a rod for my own back, but up to recently we have loved her in with us, even DP wanted her to stay, but now we are worried that we disturb her...I dont want her to go...

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 22:42

sorry to be dumn, what is ncss I heard it alot...

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 22:46

Oh and on the Orajel....an update, and then I shall stop hoggin this and go to bed!

I did a thread, got a tube from someone who had a spare, and got another 6 from someone who is on american army base which supplies a stock of it...how about that? MN is great...I will keep trying to find a relatively cheap supplier for anyone else who wants it. Its marvelous!

BandofMothers · 24/02/2007 22:58

Hi Pavlov, not sure if you'll want to talk to me after the Braveheart/Bambi jab, but my dd2 was born Aug 7th, and she's still in her cot right next to my bed.
Rushed dd1 into her own room at 4mths when she outgrew her moses basket, was harder for me than her, but love having dd2 in with me still.

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 23:07

Hey Bandofmothers - I will talk to you if you apologise for the horrid horrid bambi comment. It is my favourite film ever with fond memories and I am hurt. hahahahaha!

My LO is a little older than most on this thread, I hijacked it (with an invite of course) as my LO is a sleep pain. She is almost 8 months old, and like you in her cot right next to our bed. Only prob is I cant get into my cupboard, only because the changing table which we dont use is also there, going in a few days so she has her own spot. I personally would like, if we can get her sleeping sorted, for her to stay with us, but if she is like her mother, she will be disturbed by our sleep patterns.

However, my BIL has married a chinese woman, their LO (his step lo), sleeps the same room as them and she is four, they now have another and he is there too. DD1 sleeps absolutely fine, so do they, she can, and has slept on her own, if they go away, they just chose not to (partly I think his wife's unbringing just took this for granted) and it works well for them. So, it does not have to be a negative experience (she is a very well adjusted, wonderful little girl with no sleep problem at all, even with new baby).

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 23:09

Bandofmothers, please excuse my dry humour, not always like this, promise.

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 23:12

Before I go, Kiera - sounds like you had a rough couple of days and needed that Baileys quite badly! Bloody typical DH right?! Its a hard life being a father. I hope you are feeling a bit better than the other day tho.

Have a good night all. My LO just woke up as rugby on too loudly, suckled (naughty I know) stretched and went back to sleep. Fingers crossed its for a while

Pavlovthecat · 24/02/2007 23:12

football, not rugby.

BandofMothers · 25/02/2007 00:17

Got distracted. If it's what you always do then they get used to it. Esp if they don't know any dif.
Wont put dd2 in with dd1 til she is no longer feeding in teh night.
S'okay to have sense of humour, I'm quite dry too, and very sarcy.
LOVE IT
Plus have had lots of wine tonight!!!

tibsy · 25/02/2007 07:41

cruise and redbeki, thanks, had a coupla glasses of wine and shared big bar of choccie with ds whilst we had a cuddle on settee

dd went to bed at 6.45
10.30 woke for huge feed (as i thought, not enough thru day)
11.30, woke, back to sleep with me holding her hand
12.30 woke so came to bed with me (cot right next to bed too)
2.30 feed
4.30 feed
6.30 feed and up for day

must say tho, disnt mind so much last night after reading thread on 'mile for maude' and the mnetter who lost her lo to sids. sorry to be a bit but made me hold her a little tighter last night and thank my lucky stars.

tibsy · 25/02/2007 07:48

kiera hope youre feeling brighter

pavlov - ncss is no cry sleep solution, a book by elizabeth pantley. re. the work thing, am fortunate in that i'm self employed so am not back fully yet, rather a few 'guest appearances' as and when. but its bloody hard, esp with lack of sleep ho hum

ginger - my lo used to suckle to poo too, boob, finger, her fist, now she waits til i've taken her nappy off, pulls her knees to her chest and bingo!!

genlay · 25/02/2007 07:55

So sorry kiera you had such a stressful friday. I've cried at play group before when everyone else was talking about how wonderful things were going with their DCs I'd had a horrid time with DS for weeks before. I was a bit after as I'm usually pretty private but they didn't mind a bit.

Pavlov, I cringe to say but we had a fairly good night again last night he woke up twice. I'm scared now as maybe he's just waiting til I don't expect it and the nightmare will begin again. It's Sunday night here and I'm more than a little anxious I can tell you.

He has also started to play nice through the day. Previously DS would NEVER play with his toys without making himself so upset and frustrated that he actually vomits and can't calm down but now he smiles and laughs at me and I'm not working half as hard for it as I had to before (before? listen to me it's only been 3 days ) Maybe he is normal. Has anyone else experienced this with their DC's?
