Any of this familiar?

1 baby needs to be constantly held
2 feeds frequently during the day
3 feeds or comfort sucks through the night
4 won't sleep alone
5 HATES the pram and/or car seat
6 takes short naps
7 doesn't like being held / left with others
8 gets bored or over stimulated very quickly

Feeling exhausted and want some support from others with spirited fussy babies

If so join the club Smile

Pixie Ma my DH used to say the same about sling naps! Until he tried to get dd to nap in her cot during the day. After 30 minutes the crying eventually stopped. He came down, triumphant. Just as he was about to smugly pronounce something along the lines of 'I've nailed it!' the crying started up again. I honestly thought the poor man was going to explode Grin Since then, he's been very quiet on the subject of naps...

Ha Sugar it does amuse when people whinge about a few 'rough' nights! I'm part of a group of first-time mum friends and we regularly message each other on WhatsApp. Most mornings, there'll be a roll call of 'how did your baby sleep?' I've just learnt time keep quiet as nobody really knew how to respond when I told them exactly how bad it was!

So a very busy day of showing people round our house! Absolutely shattered, but think it went well. Would love nothing more than to have a loooong sleep and lie in. Unfortunately DD hasn't got the memo about being knackered and is full of beans. Sigh. Could be another long night...

Purpleboa · 30/01/2016 20:14

Sorry for typos. Blame the large glass of wine and exhaustion...

LittlePixieMa · 30/01/2016 21:14

Sugar yes five!! He's seems to be in competition with all other babies with teething, crawling etc....!! CC is evil!! I couldn't ever do it!

Purple so you're having to keep your house ultra clean now?!! Eeeshk!! You moving areas or upsizing? Where are you from?

Is my DS the oldest here (9 months on the 8th)

I think there may be light at the end of tunnel! He has taken a bottle two evenings in a row from dp and fallen asleep. I've not known what to do with myself. Still being a miserable darling all day though.

He starts nursery next weds so I'm hoping that will do him some good.

I also have a group of mummy friends and they stopped talking to me about sleeping. I think they thought I was exaggerating about how bad it was. Had a mum at nursery this week say it's not possible that he doesn't really sleep all day.

Purpleboa · 30/01/2016 21:57

Ugh such a bad night here. She's just refusing to go in her cot! Even when I get her in a deep sleep the minute she is gently put in her body arches and she starts to yowl. Why does she do that?? Why is it getting worse not better? I'm beginning to panic as I don't know what to do. Surely it can't keep on getting worse??

Pixie we live in Scotland. We're upsizing. Love our house and neighbourhood but it's small and we hope to expand our family I must be insane Just got to sell this house and find a new one! Simples, right??

CaptainWarbeck · 30/01/2016 23:53

Nails you beat us by one day. We're 9 months old on the 9th here!

It's not all bad with teeth and feeding. DS has two, and has stopped biting entirely after an initial bit of finding it funny. Don't know why though.

CaptainWarbeck · 30/01/2016 23:55

Sorry you're having a bad night purple Thanks Is she maybe going through a leap?

3sugarsplease · 31/01/2016 09:03

Morning all!! Coffee for you purple! Brew

Quite a large victory my end! He slept through!! Well when I say through I mean 11.30 - 5.30 does that count?! It's the first time ever! I'm so so excited. May have been the calpol coma

Is it too early for celebratory wine Wine

CaptainWarbeck · 31/01/2016 10:38

Omg sugar that totally counts, you must feel amazing! Get mini-sugar to send some tips mini-captain's way Wink

nailsathome · 31/01/2016 10:59

Yay sugar that definitely counts! Did you sleep through too?

Sorry for your rubbing night purple.

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 31/01/2016 13:53

Hi everyone, sorry I've got a bit left behind. Another pretty crap night last night. Didn't get him to bed til 9:30pm, then fed pretty much every hour, then up for the day at 4:45am. Woe is me!

Also I fell over at the stables yesterday and hurt my arse!

sugar that is sleeping through! Well done! Amazing! It is possible! You give me hope. Grin

3sugarsplease · 31/01/2016 15:40

Essie - your poor arse! Sit on a hot water bottle to ease the pain!

Captain & Nails I still think I'm in shock! Going to follow the same plan today, keep your fingers crossed for me! I slept okayish, I have a lot of things on my mind at the moment so my sleep has gone crazy and I get worried so I kept giving him a little poke just to check he was still okay!

Hope everyone is having a lovely relaxed Sunday BrewWineCakeChocolate

LittlePixieMa · 31/01/2016 15:57

Llama sorry I may have giggled a tiny bit at you falling over actually laughing quite loud you got horses?

OP posts:
EssiesInvisibleLlama · 31/01/2016 16:53

Yes pixie, just the one horse. He's 19 now, I've had him for years. He's had the winter off and I'm trying to bring him back into work and hoping to start riding again end of Feb. He was a total moron tonight though. Very over excited about being given a trot around the arena! Twit. Old enough to know better you'd think. Disappointing since it's such a palavar to get half an hour to go and actually exercise him, and he rewards me by being a loony!

It's ok, please do all laugh at my falling over, it was a shock ending up on my back on the floor and I thought I'd be in agony today, but actually not as bad as expected!

Good news, DS just slurped and licked half an oz of ebm from a sippy cup. He's a bit slow to catch on and I've given up with bottles, but this is positive! SOME of the milk went in his mouth and he kept opening it for me to put the spout back in, so better than previous attempts which ended up with wailing!

DS has napped a little too well today, I've had to wake him up a couple of times as he was making me nervous he was doing all his sleeping in the day and was warming up for an all night party. Not sure if that was the right thing to do but he seems happy and didn't seem to mind being woken.

deathb4decaf · 31/01/2016 18:58

Woohoo sugar hope it goes well again tonight!

Just got DD to sleep... it took a lot longer than it usually does....
She went really hyper and wanted to practice her crawling (shunting around on all fours) on the bed, blowing raspberries and screeching??! It was actually quite funny but wtf? She normally just cries then goes to sleep! I'm a bit scared for tonight... Confused

Good news on the sippy cup llama, sorry to hear about your bum! I dream of waking DD up from naps!! I really struggle to keep her asleep. How long are his naps?

nailsathome · 31/01/2016 19:15

Sippy cup sounds good llama.

Good luck tonight everyone!

LittlePixieMa · 31/01/2016 20:00

Llama horses can be such little monkies. My plan was to get another this year, however with DS being so fussy spirited I can't see me having the time, so hopefully next year unless I ended up buying DS a Shetland. Go Little Llama with the sippy cup!! That's awesome!!

Db4d the raspberry blowing is sooo funny! Bless. I hope you have a good night!

DH took DS to the inlaws this morning for a bit to give me some me time. I had no idea what to do with myself and ended up cleaning the bathroom. These little monkies make you wonder what the hell you did with your time before.....!!

OP posts:
EssiesInvisibleLlama · 01/02/2016 08:29

Db4d hope there was less raspberry blowing last night? Naps here are usually about 30-40 mins but yesterday he did 3 x 1.5 hour naps. Given how badly he'd slept the night before I'm not surprised cos he must have been exhausted but I was worried it would screw up last night if he slept too much in the day. I need not have worried. Last night was dreadful anyway so perhaps I should have left him to nap. I'm shattered. I ended up slinging him to sleep at 7pm cos he was grizzling and obviously getting tired but wouldn't feed to sleep. Put him to bed at 9:30 when I went up and he woke at 10:30 and was awake til 12. Sad I had to pace about jiggling him til he eventually went off. Then I fed him every hour til 5:20 when he got up for the day. I took him downstairs after I gave up trying to get him to go back off to find my DH hadn't closed the freezer properly and the entire contents have defrosted overnight. Sob.

pixie it was a struggle managing baby and horse to begin with but it's got easier. I can muck out with baby in sling and now I'm starting to be able to carry him on my back and he's doing buggy naps it's got even easier, or rather more do-able! Hope you are able to get another one at some point. It's kept me sane at times having somewhere to escape too even though I've had to take ds with me mostly he's always napped really well at the stables!

Hope others had a better night? I need someone to give me some hope!

deathb4decaf · 01/02/2016 08:49

Coffee, llama? Sorry to hear you had a rough night. Hope he naps well today for you! The freezer thing, arghhh! Found dp had done this with the fridge the other day! So annoying.

There was no raspberry blowing in the night but she did start up again when she woke up this morning!

I've been suckered into buying yet another thing to help DD sleep. Blush I've found holding my phone against the sling with white noise playing sometimes helps her transition through sleep cycles, but my battery keeps running out.
I've bought a portable clip on battery operated thingy from Amazon. It's worth a try lol

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 01/02/2016 17:21

I find white noise helps with naps too but not so much at night. I've got one of those slumber buddies, which I do put on during the night when he wakes and won't go back off. Don't think it helps but I do hope if I condition him to it he might start to associate it with going back to sleep!

I'd love a coffee but has to be a decaf cos I'm allergic to bloody caffeine.

He has napped well today, he seems to be getting better and better at day time sleeping, whilst the night time sleeping all seems to be going to shit! He had his 16 week jabs today, he's 22 weeks but I kept putting them off due to back to back colds. He's asleep in the sling at the moment and I'm eating a pie, one of the freezer casualties.

Anyone got the BabySparks app? It's £6 but quite good for lively babies and suggests activities/games etc.

3sugarsplease · 01/02/2016 20:24

Are all the little monsters down for the night now?

deathb4decaf · 01/02/2016 20:28

DD is in her cot, I'm in bed next to her. She's woken up a couple of times so far. Yours sugar?

llama I've not heard of that app. Will investigate!

3sugarsplease · 01/02/2016 20:58

Death I'm happy the monster is down for you and not trying to crawl around the bed! Winefor you!

DS is down! Took over an hour, my SIL had him today whilst I looked after my sister, he missed a nap so was completely overtired. However did make some progress in the aspect that I didn't feed him to sleep I managed to pat him and rub his back and he drifted of Grin

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 01/02/2016 21:09

He's asleep in my arms and so far all attempts to put him down have resulted in eyes pinging open. He had jabs this afternoon so has been pretty miserable all evening and I had to rock him for about an hour to get him off. Think I might be sleeping with him on me tonight. Still, at least he is asleep and I am sat down! That's a bonus I guess.

3sugarsplease · 01/02/2016 21:13

Essie DS was the same after he had his jabs. Am I right in thinking those are the last lot of jabs for year now?
