Long-term sleep deprivation getting you down?

im jealous of the naps on that thread...we only have naps longer than an hour when it is highly inconvenient. We are currently navigating the switch down to one nap (or at least my childminder is) so had a few very grumpy afternoons last week.

Miraculously DD actually fell asleep on her own in her cot the other night! I had to go downstairs to turn off the oven so popped her down and as it was quiet just left her to it. Normal service has since been resumed.

Hope things improve soon time...

AttitudeOfGratitude · 18/02/2015 19:42

Since Saturday ds has decided that his nap only needs to be about 50 mins. I was sooooo enjoying my hour or so of quiet baby free time while he slept

They are always one step ahead of us!!

AttitudeOfGratitude · 18/02/2015 19:45

Raspberry it's awful when they show you they can do it but then just won't isn't it

time I hope you have a better night

ElphabaTheGreen · 18/02/2015 20:31

Well lah lah lah my LO simply can't COPE without her four and a half hours after lunch followed by a solid 16 hour night! A well-rested child is a happier child, tra lah!

I agree, Hear. You do think The Powers That Be could have been a touch more equitable when handing out the sleepy dust. Envy

Hello everyone, sorry to hear that lots of people have been having particularly tricky times. time I second/third what others have said, you didn't jinx it, really hope your consultant can help.

We had a good night last night, only 7 wakings and a 5am start. Seriously, that was the best night I've had in over a week. Gah! Don't start with Ann for another month, how will I survive?!? Cake and chocolate I think today. Going to follow chocolate's cunning plan of having slabs of green and blacks in the house I think but for now an 830am malteaser bunny will have to do.

ElphabaTheGreen · 19/02/2015 08:29

5am start here

Start with Ann at 1pm on Monday. Thank. Fuck.

Much sympathy time and I fully agree, it's not you. I had some.success doing parts of what I did with Ann by myself bup always hit a brick wall without her extra bits. I hope your sleep consultant has some.good ideas for you.

AttitudeOfGratitude · 19/02/2015 15:45

Rubbish early start here too, plus hadn't got back to sleep from his earlier wake, grrr

Am intrigued to find out what Ann's magic tricks are! Not long now Smile

AttitudeOfGratitude · 19/02/2015 16:09

Scotty sounds like an awful week for you. Do you get a chance to rest/get a lie in at the weekend? You've made it this far, hopefully you're on the home stretch now

ElphabaTheGreen · 19/02/2015 18:00

Well, after giving me a typically rubbish night and a stupid o'clock wake-up, DS2 actually gave me an extremely pleasant day, whereby we remained in bed pretty much all day with him on one boob or another pretty much continuously (thanks to those sharp little points that have suddenly appeared in the middle of his lower jaw this evening, I'll wager). All day cuddles under a duvet, with rain bashing the windows and Bake Off on the iPad is absolutely fine by me Smile

scottygirl5 · 19/02/2015 18:43

elph that sounds like a brilliant day! I miss those sort of feeds, DD2 is a super efficient feeder and only takes 5 mins whereas with DD1 I got loads of those lovely long feeds.

Thanks attitude, I don't get to lie in but I might angle for it this weekend!

Feeling hopeful for sleep magic for us all. My friend started with a different consultant last week and within 3 days has gone from 1-2 hourly wakings with random periods of being awake for hours to her DS doing 10-6, no cc/cio! I'm well jealous and hoping for similar magic!

AttitudeOfGratitude · 19/02/2015 19:15

Oh Scotty that's the dream isn't it? Hopefully we'll get the same but 7-7 Smile

timeforsleepnow · 20/02/2015 07:39

Wow scotty! Do you know which sleep consultant that is?
We are taking a break from sleep training. I think DD's teething is pretty bad at the moment which was probably the reason for all the screaming. We are taking a break for a few days for my sanity mainly! I have co slept with her the last couple of nights. Sometimes I quite like co sleeping but generally I find it really irritating. DD was unceremoniously dumped upon DH at 5am!
I hope everyone's nights weren't too bad

Ruralrunner · 20/02/2015 11:28

Hi there - long time lurker, first time poster...! May I join the party? I have a lovely wee boy who is delightful when he's properly awake. At 0500-2300. And 0300. And 0400. Sometimes at 0130 too, just for fun... He's 7 months and I just can't get him into a sleep routine - he'll take a couple of naps at indeterminate times during the day, sometimes for 3 hours, sometimes for 20 mins. Tried controlled crying but he just keeps crying until I pick him up!! Only way I can get sleep is if I bring him into bed with us, but then feel bad for dp who works long hours too. I'm on my knees with exhaustion - can't really nap when he does as I'm freelance so need to use all available child-free hours to try to catch up on work- zzzzzzz... we're just back from long haul flight so DS is still jetlagged (as am I!!) - I know, #firstworldproblems - but added to mix is teething, snotty cold and winter vomiting bug started yesterday. Omigod. ALL the puke.
I feel like I can't really complain irl as he was an ivf baby after a looooong time trying to get pg, so I realise I'm incredibly lucky to have him at all, but oh gawd I'm tired...
Sorry for rant, thanks for reading!

ElphabaTheGreen · 20/02/2015 12:41

Of course you can moan! IVF doesn't exempt you from the realities of being a mum. If anyone IRL raises eyebrows at you for moaning about sleep deprivation, inferring that you brought it upon yourself by going through IVF, they are officially a twat. Officially.

The only thing you brought upon yourself was jet lag and the misery of a long-haul flight with a non-sleeper. Idiot. You can go and sit in the corner with Chocolate GrinWink

Up at 4am here. It's been a three-coffee day today. Ann's sent me more info to read. Roll on Monday...

OP posts:
Ruralrunner · 20/02/2015 12:50

Ha - thanks elphaba! Yes, idiotic flight plans... He was actually okay on the flights and v charming to all the stewards - just a cranky pants for us when we got home! Ho hum. Might sit in the corner with actual chocolate today...! :)

ElphabaTheGreen · 20/02/2015 12:59

Sounds familiar. Both DS1 and DS2 were/are the most charming babies in public. Saved their shrieking all for me, which I suppose is a good thing in some respects, but as DFIL says, 'they're all fur coat and no knickers'.

OP posts:
Ruralrunner · 20/02/2015 13:14

Brilliant - that should be my new screen name...!
Yes, he's a very charming baby to everyone but me and dp!!
Have given up on working today. May just hang out and read posts and post some more nonsense... Currently on couch with snotty/pukey baby and not feeling too clever myself - urgh. Hope dp not late tonight. Think this might be his fault - there's a vomiting bug going around where he works, so will blame him anyway! ??
4am starts are rough! Hope your day's getting better. I can't drink coffee, so chocolate is my caffeine of choice. Not helping with the pg weight, and am sure I must be feeding DS chocolate-flavoured milk atm...

Ruralrunner · 20/02/2015 14:11

Omfg btw - just read the "my baby sleeps too much" thread. omACTUALfg.

AttitudeOfGratitude · 20/02/2015 19:07

Ruralrunner sounds like you've got pretty much everything going on that can affect sleep at the moment. Hopefully things will improve when you're over the worst. Are you going to ride it out for a while longer or are you thinking something-must-be-done?

I didn't even finish the first page of that thread, too depressing!

We've had a better few nights despite early starts however tears several times today indicates teeth coming through so all bets are off for tonight.

LionsDontWeaveLentils · 20/02/2015 19:19

Pleeeease help me somebody! my dd slept 10 hours last night in her own bed. I am terribly worried she might be sleeping too much. Do you think I should take her to a&e? She has never slept that long without waking before! (Actually, that last bit is true) :o

AttitudeOfGratitude · 20/02/2015 19:24

Lions that's fantastic Grin Did you sleep too or did you wake out of habit?

ElphabaTheGreen · 20/02/2015 20:36

OMG LionyHear!!! Maybe her pulse has dipped dangerously low! Quick! Dash over to that other thread for a stealth boast advice!

Operation Drop The Bastard Nap is backfiring here. DS1 has screamed himself to sleep on the floor at 6pm the last three nights running :-/ I think we're going to have to bring the pigging thing back. Good luck with that one, nursery

OP posts:
Ruralrunner · 20/02/2015 20:45

Lions - you go glen coco! That's brilliant!!
Puking seems to have settled here, fingers crossed. Baby actually asleep right now and am drinking glass of wine and watching telly like a normal person...! Let's see how long that lasts. Although as I was Majing dinner my dp (who had come home early as I was feeling crappy, bless him) started up his bagpipes. I kid you not. Bagpipes. Sleeping baby and he starts playing... Thank fuck DS didn't wake up - he's quite used to the sound, but he had just effing dropped off... ARGH. Still - iplayer on now and hoping for a quieter night on the baby front (dp has now come to watch telly with me rather than playing pipes!). If we could get away with 3-4 wakings, I'd be pretty pleased with that...

Ruralrunner · 20/02/2015 21:47

And so it begins... First waking!
