Hello again all- may the sleepers continue sleeping, the new arrivals due or here get the idea very quickly and the rest of us see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Seriously snotty here as well still, i have also caught it so work has been lots of fun as I've mainly lost my voice which always happens to me with colds.

Must admit that we usually use face cloths or Muslims for nose wiping after the incident where DD was accidentally left alone within reach of some tissues. Think Andrex puppies but snottier and messier...

Bedtimes still awful here, last night took less time than Monday but only just and we're an hour into tonight's efforts. Have tried to put her down twice and haven't even got as far as hovering over the cot. The only saving grace is that nights have not been too bad (still up twice though in case any babies are reading this so hardly sleep nirvana!)

Glad others have had some success with warmer clothes, good luck tonight all, esp those with tag teams to contend with...

scottygirl5 · 22/01/2015 10:27

raspberry I sympathise, DD2 and I are snot taps too, seriously bad night :(

HearMyRoar · 22/01/2015 18:16

Snot, snot, snot!
We are all full of snot!

ElphabaTheGreen · 22/01/2015 18:31

Be-GONE lurgy! YOU WILL NOT PAAAAASS!!!

felkov · 22/01/2015 19:29

Has anyone tried the Nosefrida a.k.a. the snot sucker? my DH is obsessed with it Sad but i don't know if it even works.

DD has had what feels like a permanent cold and congestion since the start of December and I'm sure it must be part of the reason for no sleep. Today she's only napped once and even been rejecting the boob so I'm dreading tonight.

ElphabaTheGreen · 22/01/2015 20:57

We've got this snot-sucker. It's great. The DCs don't think so, but I do. Grin

ChocolateIsMySleep · 22/01/2015 22:39

We have one of those too. Amazingly disgusting in a very satisfying way.

Not something you could ever explain to someone without kids Grin

FraterculaArctica · 23/01/2015 19:51

Can I have a rant?

Met up with antenatal group yesterday and was subjected to mega competitive parenting. One Dbaby, at the age of 9 months, is already fully potty trained, drinks from a glass, eats with a fork, walks, sleeps for 10 hours overnight (usually straight through, though sometimes wakes up to 3 times to use the potty), and has a 3 hour nap in the afternoon. Her mum also naps in the afternoon because otherwise she (mum) would be 'so exhausted' and she is dreading her DD dropping or shortening the afternoon nap.

No, I thought, you are not 'so exhausted', and if you were, you would probably find your standards towards pushing your DD to all these super-early achievements dropped somewhat.

Elphaba thanks for kind offer re nappies. Will PM you.

DS's preferred object for snot-wiping is DH's phone...

felkov · 23/01/2015 20:05

Being super competitive is pretty tiring, especially if you are on the receiving end!

I can't think of any good reasons for wanting an early walker but that's because our house is nowhere near childproof

RaspberryBlonde · 23/01/2015 20:14

Feeling your pain Fratercula...there's always at least one! My personal favourite was telling a friend from my ante-natal class that we'd bought a doorstop to stop DD playing with the door but it had only worked for a day before she worked out how to take it out. She replied, 'oh yes, we tried that too, it took mine about five minutes'. I had not realised removing doorstops was such a key milestone!

I find that it's always the ones with the best sleepers who claim to be the most tired...

We had one year check today, the HV asked how she was sleeping, I said terrible, she raised an eyebrow and said, 'well you are still BFing...' Grrr

ElphabaTheGreen · 23/01/2015 20:39

Fratercula She's lying. The End.

AttitudeOfGratitude · 23/01/2015 20:44

Oh dear Fratercula, that sounds very trying. I had no idea it was even possible for a baby to potty train at 9 months! Is it possible? Shock

FraterculaArctica · 23/01/2015 21:03

She's been potty training since birth (American, and evangelical about Elimination Communication).

Raspberry my DS is obsessed with playing with the doorknob. This mostly involves him attempting to launch himself off our bed across the approx. 1 metre gap towards the door. A significant part of our bedtime routine is spent catching him just in time.

Have you done your paperwork for Ann Attitude? I'm part way through ours. Sleep diary next week... how do you even stay awake to do it?

FraterculaArctica · 23/01/2015 21:03

Aaargh. DS has woken up every 30 min since he went to bed so far. Please may he not keep this up all night...

AttitudeOfGratitude · 23/01/2015 21:16

Have just had a quick look at EC, it sounds grim. Or maybe it's brilliant?

Haven't started the paperwork yet but we're not due to submit until mid Feb. Probably should start sooner rather than later though so I don't need to rush it. Looks like you're starting before us, I'll be really interested to hear how it's going. I'll keep everything crossed for you!

Ds loves the door handles here. They are shiny silver, his favourite Smile

ElphabaTheGreen · 23/01/2015 21:20

EC is bullshit. It trains the parents, not the baby.

I feel like the grumpy old woman in the corner, only piping up now and again to complain about my lumbago.

AttitudeOfGratitude · 23/01/2015 21:32

I think it sounds horrendous. I would pity any newborn subjected to it. I ummed and ahhed about how diplomatic to be Wink

ElphabaTheGreen · 23/01/2015 21:35

I'm long past umming and aaahing. When I see bullshit, I call it.

ElphabaTheGreen · 23/01/2015 21:35
Grin
RaspberryBlonde · 23/01/2015 21:46

Instead providing vouchers for money off cloth nappies like many areas, our local county council produces a whole leaflet about EC. Didn't seem a good trade off when I was researching the nappies.

We do sit DD on a potty from time to time, and if she produces anything that's one less nappy to change and will help with familiarity for when she's older. I don't know how anyone would ever find the energy for not bothering with nappies at all, especially at night times. I value the sleep I do get too much!

Fratercula you are doing better than me, I'm yet to get mine into bed at all.

AttitudeOfGratitude · 23/01/2015 21:50

That's exactly what I was thinking Raspberry, why would you purposely want to get up umpteen times a night getting the baby undressed etc?

HearMyRoar · 24/01/2015 07:18

EC is fine if you have the time to be obsessed with your dc's bowel movements and don't mind stinking of wee and shit for a year while your child pisses all over you.

Next time she mentions it just make an enlightened face and say 'ah that explains the smell, I hadn't wanted to mention it'. Smile sweetly :o

scottygirl5 · 24/01/2015 07:33

hear heehee! I like that response.

I've never even met anyone doing EC, sounds a bit bonkers Grin

RaspberryBlonde · 24/01/2015 07:50

Well, we have a bug that just keeps on giving here, having graduated from runny noses to a fetching hacking cough as well well. How are the rest of you with lurgy getting on? Hope your DS managed longer than 30 minutes at some point Fratercula.

I did spend a couple of weeks at one stage changing DD in case wet nappies were wakiing her. It made no difference at all, which is probably just as well since I was having to do a lot of nappy washing!

scottygirl5 · 24/01/2015 08:01

I'm almost better, DD is still a snot tap. Hacking cough sounds grim Sad
