High-Need Baby Support Thread III

TitaniaP · 01/04/2012 06:32

Well as I'm awake I thought I'd start thread 3!

The high-need baby thread has been moved from breast & bottle feeding to sleep. In the early days of the thread I think feeding was a significant issue for many of the posters. I think those that post regularly on the thread would now agree that's it's mainly sleep that's the issue.

So if your baby fits the following criteria come and join us for wine, chocolate, coffee and matchsticks as we delight in our active, inquisitive, curious and restless babies or toddlers!

  1. Feeds frequently daytime
  2. Feeds frequently nighttime
  3. Needs to be constantly held
  4. Wont sleep alone
  5. Hates the car seat/pram
  6. Short naps

Bit quiet round here tonight... everyone okay?

Love that pic Joyful Grin

Oh, and is anyone else experiencing an 8ish month sleep 'regression'? (Ha, I've never used that word about DS before as it never felt that it could get much worse!) Poor DS is rolling onto his front every hour or so and trying to crawl, then falling flat on his face. It's really upsetting him and giving us even less sleep than usual

Any ideas?

TitaniaP · 11/04/2012 22:11

Truth - we had that at 9ish months. Drove me up the wall. No suggestions except pillows across the headboard. DS kept headbutting the headboard or top of the cot (and woke himself up in the process).

This too shall pass.. (or as my friend says this too shall pass only to be replaced by an equally irritating and frustrating phase).

Ah, so it could be the bashing rather than the flipping waking him up?

I'm coping okay with the disruption, just so sad for him. He gets so upset about it! Not sure if he's upset as he can't crawl or because he keeps landing on his face.

Mampig · 11/04/2012 22:23

Ds is now 'experienced'Grin crawler- still lands on his face at times, and we've even had bloodSad. So upsetting for him and me!!!

And now trying to walk, plenty bumps etc, we've been having plenty of tearsSad. Flip- when does it get easier??? when they move out Wink

TitaniaP · 11/04/2012 22:39

Truth - with us he was fine with the flipping and never really fell on his face, just kept going until he hit something. It didn't really coincide with him learning to crawl either. He'd been crawling for over a month before doing the bed crawl. Funny babies.

On the upside he is doing quite well with the self-settling. I put him in his cot sleepy but awake and the pat/shush until he goes to sleep. It make no odds at all with the wakenings though!

"funny babies" - yup, he's back to being 'our little weirdo' Grin

Blood must have been terrifying Mampig! (haha, predictive text in my phone has learnt your name & given you a capital)

Here, shush pat works for wakings (sometimes!) but not first sleep. This is why there's no manual! They all have their quirks.

Hope you all have good nights.

jan2011 · 12/04/2012 06:22

dd has slept through with a dream feed at 1. did i say that, 'slept through'?

SpannerPants · 12/04/2012 06:33

Urgh DS has been awake hourly since 2.30 :( I think he had tummyache cos he's farting away now! I blame the broccoli I gave him for tea! Work is going to be interesting today

jan2011 · 12/04/2012 06:57

aw no spanner good luck for work :( i feel guilty now!

LittleWaveyLines · 12/04/2012 07:30

Well done baby jan!

Well DD didn't go to sleep until 9pm, and then woke I think hourly all night. I didn't clock watch, just counted wake ups, and gave up once I got to 7....

I am now feeling properly ill with tonsillitis.

LittleWaveyLines · 12/04/2012 07:34

Oh and cereal before bed didn't work - I think that's what kept her up late! Gave her cereal at 7pm...

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 12/04/2012 07:50

DS is currently going through his repertoire of sounds while DP tries to dress him ('aa, ba, bla, bvv, meh, eew...) It's very cute. He ended up in bed with us for most of the night because he was having so many bad dreams & so many attempts at sleep crawling. Zzzzzz,

TitaniaP · 12/04/2012 09:16

I have to say that I'm becoming less convinced that babies wake for hunger. DS ate his own body weight in food yesterday (he's finally got the hang of solids me thinks, eating hot cross buns, muffins, porridge and pasta with spinach and cream cheese yesterday).

Well done on the sleeping through Jan. Do you feel fab or rubbish today?

LWL - hope the throat gets better soon.

Truth - what grown-up activities are on the cards today?

No, I agree Titania - I think it is largely through habit, but unfortunately can't work out how to break that habit.

Today I have mostly been enjoying shopping on my own - trying things on, using stairs instead of lifts - and buying shedloads of back to work gear Grin

:( Puddle

Mampig · 12/04/2012 20:35

Sad Puddle!

I read somewhere about how co-sleeping skin to skin can help bring baby temp down, as mum's temp actively drops to bring babys temp down. Not sure what age this continues to though? Be worth googling, especially for the night ahead...

TitaniaP · 12/04/2012 20:50

Puddle Sad.

Sending get well soon thoughts.
