here

I have an ongoing thread in breast and bottle feeding topic.

To summarise:
ds2 is 11 months. breastfed
never slept
wakes at least 3 times a night. usually more

tried everything possible that i can think of/have read
including:
elizabeth pantley
tracy hogg
shortening night feeds by a minute a night....cant get down past 5 minutes
classical music (yes i am desperate)
more blankets
less blankets
selective ignoring
shushing and patting
co-sleeping

you get the jist
not done CC as I really dont feel emotionally able
it is making me ill - off work sick with this as a contributing factor
help

When he wakes, do you feed him?

WigWamBam · 31/01/2006 13:50

I would suggest you pick a method that you would feel comfortable with, and try sticking with it for a while - looks as if you haven't stuck with any method for very long, and maybe you need a bit of consistency for a while.

Sorry, that's probably not very helpful, but will at least bump the thread for you.

littlerach · 31/01/2006 13:52

item of your clothing to take to bed with him/

Thi sis my mums suggestion for DD2 who wakes in the night, though not for food, just for reassurance.

Am racking my brains, as dd2 was like this. She was not breast fed though, but at around 12mths she was only sleeping 2 hours a night.

We tried everything that you have already mnentioned but tbh the only thing that seemed to work was when we moved she had to share a room with dd1 which she seemed to loive. After that she was alot better.

Will have another think as i'm sure there must have been other things that helped a bit.

flashingnose · 31/01/2006 14:00

It sounds very much as if he's getting incredibly mixed messages. First and foremost, you have to decide whether you're still feeding him at night or not. If not, then you can do as WWB says - pick a method and stick to it. Put a drink in his cot so you know he won't be thirsty and do it now while you're off work.

Good luck - I do feel for you.

popsycalindisguise · 31/01/2006 14:00

oh yes
we have also tried all sorts of variations on daytime naps

he has a naxium of 2 hours day time sleep but usyuallyless

I agree with deciding wether you are gonna feed in the night or not. I decided not to and although dd did still wake, she was easier to settle once she realised she wasn't getting any food.

popsycalindisguise · 31/01/2006 14:02

ok say i decided not to feed at night (beasrring in mind that by 6am my boobs are drained.....)
what do i do in the night

god i sound so shit dont i

ds1 was just not like this

I agree you have to have a plan... give yourself a time scale and stick to it..

what time does he go to bed?...
does he have a bedtime routine?
is he in his own room? your don't think that your somehow disturbing him.(thats if he's in with you)

Does he wake up for his dream feed or do you wake him..
do you change his nappy at night..
do you feed in the dark?

sorry so many questions..

nutcracker · 31/01/2006 14:07

Does he have a dummy by the way ??

popsycalindisguise · 31/01/2006 14:10

what time does he go to bed?...
upstairs at around 6:45. feed in dark room then settles himself to sleep in his cot (success!!!)

does he have a bedtime routine?
bed time routine...dinner at 5ish, then bath and books before feed and bed

is he in his own room? still in with us mainly due to logistics but hoping to sort this soon.....possible we are disturbing him but he wakes in the evening when i am in alone with no tv etc so only one factor...

Does he wake up for his dream feed or do you wake him..
he wakes up himself between 10 and 12 - usually nearer 10

do you change his nappy at night..
never

do you feed in the dark?
always

OP posts:
popsycalindisguise · 31/01/2006 14:10

wont have a dummy despite 11 months of trying

OP posts:
rummum · 31/01/2006 14:12

do you think he is using you as a comforter/dummy to get him self back to sleep?

as nutcracker asked does he have a dummy and have you ever concidered one..

nutcracker · 31/01/2006 14:13

Wonder if once he realised he was not going to get a feed, wether he may take a dummy then.

Maybe he is thinking, 'why have a dummy when i can have food instead'

rummum · 31/01/2006 14:13

cross posted...

popsycalindisguise · 31/01/2006 14:14

tried dummy periodically since he was born
he chews it

OP posts:
nutcracker · 31/01/2006 14:14

Have you ever not fed him and then he has gone back off ??

Sorry about all the questions.

popsycalindisguise · 31/01/2006 14:15

he doesnt get that it is something to be sucked

OP posts:
Pollyanna · 31/01/2006 14:15

You don't want to hear this, but cc was the only that that worked for us. I had tried everything and dd3 was waking up more and more. In the end I was so exhausted that dh sent me to the spare room with a pair of earplugs and did the deed. I was totally against cc, but I have to say it did work (she sleeps 6.45-6.30 now) and she doesn't seem at all emotionally disturbed by it.

popsycalindisguise · 31/01/2006 14:15

when he wakes i leave him for a minute to see if he will go off
if not I will try stroking
if not then i will pick up and shush
if not i will feed

at any of these points he may go back to sleep
but mostly he gets hysterical

OP posts:
rummum · 31/01/2006 14:16

does he take anything from a bottle or cup
